As we all know, John Cena is on the biggest Superstar in WWE’s history. He has been a 16-time WWE Champion. Cena has wrestled some of the best matches of the last 20 years and here we are looking at the 5 biggest wins of this career till date.
#5 John Cena vs A.J. Styles ( Royal Rumble 2017 )
John Cena returned from a nearly three-month hiatus and challenged WWE Champion for the title at the Royal Rumble. In the match, Cena performed an Attitude Adjustment and Styles a Phenomenal Forearm, both scoring near-falls. A trade of reversals of Styles’ Calf Crusher and Cena’s STF followed. Styles applied the STF, but Cena escaped the hold. Cena applied the Figure Four Leglock, which Styles countered into a Cross Armbreaker, which Cena escaped. Both men scored near-falls, Styles after a Styles Clash and Cena after an Attitude Adjustment from the top rope. Styles attempted a Phenomenal Forearm, but Cena caught him, performed two Attitude Adjustments and pinned Styles to win his thirteenth WWE Championship. With this win, Cena tied Ric Flair’s record of sixteen recognized world championships.
#4 John Cena vs Triple H (Wrestlemania 2006)
The main event of the WrestleMania 22 was John Cena vs Triple H match. Triple H got the chance for the title match after he won the Road to Wrestle Mania tournament. The match was evenly matched with both men getting the advantage over each other. Triple H tried to perform a Pedigree, but it was countered by Cena into an FU. After Triple H kicked out of a two-count, Cena locked him into the STF. Triple H got to the ropes and went for another Pedigree, but was countered into the STF again by Cena. Triple H tapped out, and as a result, Cena retained the WWE Championship.
#3 John Cena vs Brock Lesnar ( Extreme Rulez 2012 )
Nearly a decade later after Cena and Lesnar’s last meeting, Brock Lesnar has a surprising return on Monday night RAW after being a successful MMA fighter. Brock Lesnar delivered F-5 to John Cena and cleared his intentions that he wants to fight with John Cena, and their match was fixed for Extreme Rule 2012.
Lesnar dominated the match hard-hitting offense so much so that Cena had to be checked by Medics twice. Lesnar even brought the steel steps in the ring and slapped on a kimura lock on Cena while on the steps, but Cena eventually lifted and slammed Lesnar to break the hold. After Lesnar avoided a Cena diving leg drop bulldog, Lesnar then charged and leaped off the ring steps and over the top rope onto Cena, sending both men to the floor. When Lesnar tried the same move again, Cena countered by hitting Lesnar in the head with the metal chain that he brought to the match, bloodying Lesnar. Cena then fired up, delivered an Attitude Adjustment to Lesnar onto the ring steps and pinned him. This was first won for Cena against Lesnar.
#2 John Cena vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 2007)
2007 was a great year for John Cena as his popularity increased day by day especially amongst children and he became the face of WWE. Michaels became the no.1 contender after beating Randy Orton and Edge in a triple threat match. On the road to WM, Cena and Shawn Michaels were unique tag team partners. They even won over Batista and Undertaker at No Way out and saved each other from attacks of Randy Orton and Edge. But soon Michaels turned on Cena.
The match at WM contained several notable spots, including Michaels hitting a Piledriver on Cena onto steel steps outside the ring. Cena was unable to execute an FU during the match, and Michaels also failed to execute Sweet Chin Music several times. Later in the match, Cena managed to place Michaels in the STFU submission hold, with Michaels reaching the ropes to break the hold. Cena then managed to place Michaels in the STFU again, and as a result, Michaels tapped out and Cena retained the WWE Championship.
#1 John Cena vs The Rock (Wrestlemania 2013)
This match was the culmination of 3 years of the storyline. In 2011, Rock returned to RAW after 7 years and insulted Cena in a promo. He then cost Cena the WWE championship match at Wrestle Mania 27 against the Miz where he came out as the special referee and hit Cena with a Rock bottom, allowing Miz to pin Cena. Rock then faced Cena again at WM 28 in 2012 and the match was dubbed as “Once in a Lifetime”. Rock countered the People’s Elbow from Cena to hit Rockbottom and win the match. Rock then won the WWE championship from CM Punk at Royal Rumble to win a WWE title after 10 years and then defended it at Elimination Chamber. Cena had won the Royal Rumble in 2013 to set up a match between them at WM 29 for WWE Championship.
Cena was booed throughout the match whenever he hit a move on Rock. After a slow start to the match, Rock lock Cena in a sharpshooter but Cena escaped. Rock again countered Cena when he was going for 5-knuckle shuffle to a DDT. Then it was Cena’s turn to lock Rock in STFU. Rock was able to power out of the second STFU and caught Cena with a Rock Bottom. Cena replied with Attitude Adjustment to get two counts. People’s elbow and Rock Bottom followed by Cena kicked out at two. Cena then hit 2nd AA. Cena teased the people’s elbow but Rock popped up, so Cena instead went for AA which was countered into another Rockbottom. After a DDT, Rock was setting up for another Rock bottom but Cena countered to hit 3rd AA for the pin and the win.
Cena continued his reign as the Champion until losing to Daniel Bryan at Summer Slam.
