Welcome to the live results blog for WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022 event on May 8, 2022.

A mix of rematches from WrestleMania 38 and some interesting new combinations are announced for the show. The Bloodline – Roman Reigns and The Usos – taking on Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton and Riddle is the biggest match on the card. Two rivalries collide in this match as we get a glimpse of the Roman vs Drew rivalry down the road. RK-Bro vs The Usos Tag Team title unification bout is also near future.

Madcapp Moss vs Happy Corbin is the only other match that is not a rematch from WrestleMania 38. Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey “I Quit” match is the only title fight as SmackDown Women’s Championship will be on the line. AJ Styles takes on Edge once again, but Damian Priest is barred from the ringside for this match. Expect any other reinforcement for Edge to emerge during this match.

Bobby Lashley will try to take down Omos once again, but it might not be as straightforward as last time since MVP will be in Omos’ corner with his mind games. Then, there is a rematch between Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes which was the highest-rated match from WrestleMania 38. Will Cody triumph again?

Live Updates

The pre-show is available on the above video. Kayla Braxton is hosting with Kevin Patrick. Booker-T , JBL and Peter Rosenberg are there with them.

MVP appears on the pre-show to hype Omos vs Lashley match. He was asked about choosing Omos over Lashley. He says he felt some kind of weight but then he made a business decision and did not let him emotions get in the way. Omos has the MVP factor and he will be bigger than Lashley ever.

Moss appears on the pre-show. He gets a mini “Big Bald Wolf” chant going. He says he had a great time with Corbin when times were good, but started treating him back when they turned sour.

Paul Heyman and The Usos come out of Roman Reigns’ locker room. Megan Morant catches us with them. Heyman wishes Happy Mother’s Day to Roman Reigns’ mother, who gave us Tribal Chief, and the mother of The Usos, who gave us the greatest tag team two at a time. He adds that when Roman gets in the ring tonight, he will see how Orton and Riddle’s mother failed them. Finally, he says Drew McIntyre named her sword on her mother and he needs some psychotherapy which he will receive tonight.

The main show starts with a video package with Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness theme.

Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes

They feel each other out. Cody tries to grab the leg but Rollins moves away. Cody lands on his feet when Rollins goes for a back suplex. Rollins has the dropdown punch scouted. Rollins kicks at Cody’s gut in the corner. He avoids a counter arm drag. Cody is looking frustrated over these failed counters. Rollins hits him on the back of the head and Cody is angry. He starts to unload. Rollins goes out and baits him into an attack. He hits a knee to knock Cody off the apron. Cody slams his face into the steel steps.

Rollins cuts him off with a clothesline. A quick one count for Rollins as they get back to the ring. Rollins puts on a chinlock. Cody hits punches and then drops down for a signature jab. Cody hits a vertical suplex and a disaster kick to get a two-count. Rollins pushes him off the ropes when he goes for a springboard move. Rollins sends Cody into the barricade and then slams his face into the announce table. Rollins hits forearms. Cody starts to fight back with forearms of his own.

Rollins whips him hard from corner to corner. Rollins hits knees to the back and then to the face. A chinlock is keeping Cody down. He hits an elbow to loosen the grip. Cody starts to fight back with his punches. Rollins stops a sunset flip. He goes to the top and Cody decks him and hits superplex. They trade shots at each other. Cody hits a clotheslines and a powerslam before Rollins is clotheslined to the floor. Rollins avoids a dive on the floor. Cody cuts off his dive and goes on to hit Cody Cutter for a close two-count.

Seth hits back with an enziguiri and a superkick for a two-count. Seth does some showboating. Cody almost catches him with crossrhodes. They go to counter each other. Rollins avoids a pedigree and hits rolling elbow and falcon arrow for a close two-count. Cody grabs on his leg to avoid move. Rollins hits a buckle bomb and a splash for another close two-count. Rollins goes to the top again and goes for a moonsault. He has to roll through as Cody gets up. Cody hits him with a superkick.

Cody goes to the top. Rollins hits a superplex before Cody counters with a crossrhodes. He goes for a pin but Rollins gets his leg over the bottom rope. Cody takes Rollins to the announce table as he gets angry. He slams Rollins’ face into the announce table. Cody misses a moonsault and Rollins quickly hits him with a pedigree. Cody still kicks out of the pin.

Rollins says Cody could not lace his boots as he hits Koala style kicks to Cody’s face. Rollins starts jabbing in Cody’s signature style. Cody ducks one punch and hits crossrhodes. Rollins avoids a second one. Cody goes for a vertebreaker but Rollins rolls through and catches the tights. Cody rolls him over and holds onto the tights to get the pin.

Winner – Cody Rhodes

Rollins argues with the referee for a while as Cody celebrates his win.

Omos(w/ MVP) vs Bobby Lashley

Lashley unloads with punches on Omos. Omos pushes him away for a while before Lashley hits more and more punches. MVP gets on the apron to distract Lashley. Omos drops Lashley. He sends Lashley to the corner and hits a couple of corner splashes. Omos pushes pressure on Lashley’s face. Lashley hits at Omos’ midsection. Omos pushes him onto the floor over the top rope.

Lashley gets back to the ring. Omos drops him on the turnbuckle and hits a big boot. MVP is running his mouth. Omos picks Lashley up on his shoulder. Lashley slips out and hits back elbows. Lashley jumps on his back and puts on a sleeper. He avoids Omos’ corner splash. Lashley hits corner tackles. He clotheslines Omos but is not able to send him to the floor. Lashley traps his arms in the ropes and unloads with punches. The referee gives him five count to stop his attack.

Lashley tries to put MVP into the Hurt Lock but Omos grabs and brings him back into the ring. Lashley hits a kick at his knee and then hits a flatliner. Lashley goes for the Hurt lock and applies it. Omos starts to fade but then gets back up and slams Lashley into the corner. Omos hits a back elbow before hitting big shots at Lashley’s chest.

Lashley unloads in the other corner. He tries to suplex Omos but Omos is too big for him. Omos cuts off the spear with a knee. MVP hits Lashley with his cane while the referee is distracted. Omos hits double handed chokeslam powerbomb to get the pin.

Winner – Omos

Omos celebrates with MVP and leaves. Lashley is recovering in the ring and does not look happy.

Edge vs AJ Styles

The commentary team brings us that AJ has an injured shoulder. AJ unloads right after the bell. He hits a dropkick next. AJ slams Edge into the barricade, ring post, steel steps and on the announce table. He connects a basement dropkick and then hits an Asai moonsault on the floor.

Edge cuts off Phenomenal Forearm with a kick. Edge pushes AJ into the ring post and hurts his shoulder. Edge removes a turnbuckle while AJ recovers on the floor. Edge catapults AJ into the steel steps. He works on his shoulder by slamming it on the mat a few times. Edge puts on a shoulder stretch now.

Styles takes him to the corner but Edge drops him on the turnbuckle. Edge stomps on him in the corner. AJ hits some punches before he ducks a clothesline and connects a Pele Kick. They crash with a double crossbody, and both men are down. AJ hits clotheslines and a sliding forearm. He slams Edge face first into the mat for a two-count.

AJ puts him on the top and hits a hurricanrana. AJ avoids a DDT and hits brainbuster on his knees for another two-count. AJ kicks at his knee. Edge takes a shot at the shoulder to take control back. Edge goes for crossface but Styles counters with calf crusher. Edge was in danger and it tool him a lot of time for him to grab the ropes.

AJ hits a German suplex but Edge picks the turnbuckle off. Edge hits a spear and gets a near fall. AJ cuts Edge off with a knee. AJ hits the Styles Clash but he Edge kicks out. AJ was looking for the Phenomenal Forearm but Edge is not getting up. AJ gets to the top. Damian Priest gets to the ringside. Finn Balor appears to attack him.

Some hooded figure appears and pulls AJ down from the top turnbuckle. AJ drops with his shoulder on the ropes. Edge puts on a crossface. Edge has AJ’s shoulder under pressure and puts on a bulldog choke. AJ tries to get his leg to the ropes but Edge chokes him out.

Winner – Edge

After the match, Edge celebrates. The hooded figure comes in and bends her knee in front of Edge. Edge embraces her and reveals her face. It is Rhea Ripley. The crowd cheers on the revelation.

Charlotte Flair(c) vs Ronda Rousey – I Quit Match for WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Ronda starts with knee strikes. Flair charges and Ronda drops her with another knee. Charlotte hits a back elbow. Ronda hits judo armdrags. Flair drops her with a clothesline. Ronda counters with a throw. Flair hits a clotheslines. Ronda goes for the Piper’s pit, but Flair hits her with German suplex. Ronda avoids figure four. She goes for the arm bar. Flair rolls both of them to the floor. Flair drives Ronda into the barricade.

Ronda counters to drive Flair into the ringpost and then throw her into the timekeeper’s area. Ronda grabs the microphone from the referee and Flair takes the advantage to hit a big boot. Ronda avoids a kendo stick shot and takes it away from Flair. Flair runs away to the stage and gets two kendo sticks. Flair’s double kendo stick breaks Ronda’s kendo. Flair hits Ronda with double kendo stick. Ronda snatches them from Flair and starts to unload on Flair, taking her down the ramp.

Flair takes the camera from a cameraman and throws it to break the kendo sticks. Flair runs into the crowd. Ronda follows her and continues to beat her up. Flair grabs a drink from a fan and throws it in Ronda’s face. Flair drives Ronda into a barricade and is in control now. She puts on a crossface using the staircase barrrier. Ronda refuses to say to quit and Flair let her go after a while.

Ronda catches the steel chair Flair tries to use it. Flair comes back to ringside and hits a bit boot to knock off the steel chair. Flair slams Ronda’s face into the announce table. Flair hits a powerbomb into the barricade. Ronda still refuses to quit. Ronda starts to unload. Flair rakes her eyes and slams her face into the ring post. Flair goes to the top. Ronda trips her and puts the arm bar using the ropes. Flair refuses to give up though. Ronda puts more pressure, which leads to both of them falling to the floor.

Flair picks up a chair and hits Ronda. Back to the ring, Flair hits Natural Selection on a chair. Flair puts on a figure four. She bridges up with a figure eight. The referee asks her if she quits. Ronda picks up a chair and slams it on Flair’s knee to break the lock. Flair sets up a chair and goes to taunt Ronda by saying Happy Mother’s Day. Ronda suddenly puts her in an armbar using the steel chair. Ronda puts pressure on it and Flair says, “I Quit.”

Winner – Ronda Rousey(new SmackDown Women’s Champion)

Madcapp Moss vs Happy Corbin

They lock up to start. Corbin hits a calf kick. Corbin slams Moss in the corner. Moss starts to unload with punches. He also hits an inside calf kick. Moss leapfrogs and hits a hip toss. Corbin hits a kick as Moss gets caught up in the ropes. Corbin hits a chokeslam. He kicks Moss out of the ring and drives him into the ring post. He unloads with forearm agains the barricade. Moss hits a couple of body shots but Corbin runs him over with a clotheslines to get a two-count.

Corbin hits a couple of more punches and puts on a shoulder lock. Moss gets back to his feet and hits some body shots. Corbin hits another clothesline to drop him. Corbin hits a suplex and a senton to get a two-count. Moss fires back and sends Corbin to the floor. Moss tackles him on the ramp before unloading some more.

They return to the ring to hit a corner tackle. Corbin hits a knee to cut him off. Moss hits a fallway slam to get a close two-count. Corbin hits a back suplex for a two-count. Corbin hits more punches. Moss hits back with an elbow. Corbin lands more punches in the corner. Moss hits back with forearms from the second rope. Corbin counters a charge with deep six for another close two-count. Corbin charges into the corner but Moss ducks him. Corbin goes for another clothesline but Moss rolls him up with a sunset flip and gets the pin.

Winner – Madcapp Moss

Moss slips to the floor quickly and celebrates his win.

Kayla Braxton tells up that Charlotte Flair has suffered a fracture in radial bone in her shoulder.

The Bloodline(Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso) vs Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton & Riddle

Orton and Jimmy start. Jimmy hits punches in the corner. Orton flicks at his eyes. Riddle tags in and hits an assisted senton. More quick moves follow. Jimmy whips him to the corner and unloads. Riddle hits a gutwrench suplex. Drew tags in and hits a scoop and slam. He hits chops in the corner. Uso hits a punch at his throat. Drew cuts him off with a basement dropkick. He hits a suplex.

Jimmy goes to tag out and Drew signals that he wants Roman. Roman takes his time to delibrate. Paul Heyman tells him not to go in at this time. Roman ignores him and tags in. They circle around and Roman tags out. He screams that he calls the shots here. Drew hits a big boot and a suplex on Jey to irritate Roman.

Riddle hits a body slam. Jimmy takes the blind tag and double teams with Jey to take down Riddle. Jey takes a cheap shot at Riddle before some more double team. The Usos work on Riddle with quick tags. They are targetting his arm. Jey holds Riddle in a backbreaker as Jimmy jumps on him. Roman finally tags in and slams Riddle back to the mat. Roman throws in punches in the corner.

Riddle tries to fight back but Roman drops him with a back elbow. Roman has slowed down the pace. He hits an Urinage. Jimmy comes in and misses a corner splash. Jey tags in and intercepts Riddle’s tag. He sends Riddle into the ring post. Jey hits a superkick on Orton at the apron. Drew is getting angrier watching all this. Jey showboats a bit and gets the Usos chants going. Riddle hits him with a dropkick to send him to the floor.

Riddle is still down. Roman brings Jey back to the ring and tags in. Riddle jumps and tags in Drew. Roman and Drew stare down before starting to unload. Drew hits a belly-to-belly and a clothesline. Drew hits a neckbreaker on Roman and then on Jey when he comes in. Jimmy distracts him and Roman nails him with a superman punch.

Roman is in control now, and the pace is slowed down again. He slams Drew’s face into the apron. Back to the ring, he hits a low clothesline. Roman hits corner clotheslines before a flying clothesline. Roman takes the WWE and Universal title from Heyman and shows them off in the air. He goes on to deck Riddle off the apron. Randy draws Roman into an argument and Drew hits Roman with a dropkick.

Jimmy comes in as Orton gets a hot tag. Orton hits clotheslines and a powerslam on Jimmy. Jey is also hit with a powerslam when he tries to interfere. Orton hits a draping DDT on Jimmy. He gets ready for RKO but Jey comes in again and is thrown out again. Roman comes in and Orton hits him with an RKO. An RKO to Jimmy just after Jimmy hits him with a superkick. Jey breaks the pin.

Drew comes in and drops Jey. He goes for the Claymore but Jimmy hits him with a superkick. The Usos hit double superkick on Drew. Riddle gets the tag while Jey also recovers to tag in. Riddle unloads in the corner, hits Roman with a knee, hits a suplex and a senton on Jey. He hits fisherman suplex followed by floating bro to get a near fall. Jey avoids the RKO from Riddle and hits a pop-up neckbreaker. Orton breaks the pin. He slams Jimmy into the barricade a few times and then unloads on him viciously.

Roman hits with a superman punch on the floor. Drew sends Roman into the steel steps shoulder first. Drew clears the announce table. Jimmy saves Roman. Drew hits him with Glasgow kiss. Roman puts Drew through the table with an Urinage. Riddle hits Roman with a suicide dive. Jey dives on Riddle before bringing him into the ring. Riddle hits a knee and Jey replies with a superkick. Jey goes to the top. Riddle jumps to the top and hits an RKO on Jey. Roman has taken a blind tag before that move. Roman hits a spear on Riddle and gets the pin.

Winners – The Bloodline

The Bloodline celebrates their win. Roman poses for the camera on the ramp as the show goes off the air.
