WWE WrestleMania 40 Saturday Night 1 Results, Live Updates
Welcome to the live results blog for night 1 of WWE WrestleMania 40 event on April 6, 2024, which will be live from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.
Night 1 will feature The Rock and Roman Reigns facing Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match in the main event. The stipulation for Roman vs Cody Universal title match will be decided from the outcome of this match. The Bloodline will be banned from that match if they lose. However, if they win, the match will be turned into a Bloodline rules match.
3 title matches are also on the card on WrestleMania Saturday. Rhea Ripley will face Becky Lynch to defend Women’s World Championship. Sami Zayn challenges Gunther for Intercontinental Championship. 6 teams will fight for Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship – Judgment Day, DIY, New Day, Awesome Truth, New Catch Republic and A-Town Down Under.
The Bloodline civil war will see brother Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso clashing in a singles match. Two more tag team matches are on the show. Rey Mysterio and Andrade will fight Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar. Damage CTRL will face a challenge from Bianca Belair, Naomi and Jade Cargill.

RESULTS
- Rhea Ripley(c) defeated Becky Lynch in a singles match via pinfall to retain Women’s World Championship.
- A-Town Down Under(Austin Theory & Grayson Waller) won Smackdown Tag Team Championship, and Awesome Truth(The Miz & R-Truth) won RAW Tag Team Championship by beating Judgment Day(Damian Priest & Finn Balor), New Day(Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods), DIY(Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) and New Catch Republic(Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate) in a Ladder match.
- Rey Mysterio & Andrade defeated Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar in a tag team match via pinfall.
- Jey Uso defeated Jimmy Uso in a singles match via pinfall.
- Bianca Belair, Naomi & Jade Cargill defeated Damage CTRL(Kairi Sane, Asuka & Dakota Kai) in a tag team match via pinfall.

LIVE UPDATES
A new signature “Then, Now, Forever, Together” video starts the show which is voiced by Triple H. We cut to WrestleMania intro package which included Meek Mill’s song “Big Boy.” Paul “Triple H” Levesque then made his way out to the ring. He said, “Welcome to a new time, welcome to a new era, welcome to WrestleMania!”
Becky Lynch makes her way out and her entrance features excerpts from her book. Rhea Ripley follows her out.
Rhea Ripley(c) vs Becky Lynch – Women’s World Championship.
Rhea corners Becky into the corner. Becky slaps Rhea, but Rhea sends her into the ring post face first. Becky then throws Rhea to the outside and looks for a dive, but Rhea catches her. Becky lands on the apron and flies off to land a forearm. They get back in the ring, and Rhea hits a Northern Lights suplex. Becky escapes a vertical suplex once but Rhea lands it on the second attempt. She follows it up with a dropkick before hitting her with some stomps.
Rhea gets to the top, but Becky pulls her off. Becky fires some shots before Rhea lands a knee and a Tornado DDT. Becky delivers a leg drop to Rhea through the middle rope, then delivers a Bexploder to her on the barricade. She gets her back in the ring and ascends to the top, then delivers a leg drop. Ripely gets Becky up on her shoulders and sends her crashing into the mat and follows it up with knee strike. Rhea sends Becky bouncing off the apron and sets up for Riptide, but Becky escapes and cinches in an Arm Bar.
Rhea delivers a pair of powerbomb and a sit-out powerbomb before she delivers a boot and fires off right hands on Becky. Becky and Rhea then exchange chops, and Becky drapes Rhea through the middle rope. She then ascends to the top and looks to land another leg drop, but Rhea counters into the Prism Trap. Becky rolls into a pinfall, and Rhea is forced to break the submission hold to kick out. Becky then connects with a Man Handle Slam and goes for a pin of her own, but Rhea kicks out.
Rhea hit Riptide, but Becky kicks out. Rhea climbs to the top rope, but Becky trips her. They trade punches on the rope. Becky hits a superplex and immediately puts on the disarmher. Rhea overpowers her and stands up with Becky. Rhea tries to throw her to the floor but Becky holds on and they both land on the floor. Rhea lands on her feet and drops Becky on her back from electric chair. She takes Becky back to the ring quickly and hits a frog splash for a near fall. Rhea sets up on the top rope once again. Becky tries to counter with an Avalanche Manhandle Slam, but Rhea blocks it and hits a Riptide on top on the turnbuckle. She hits another Riptide to get the pinfall.

Judgment Day vs New Day vs DIY vs Awesome Truth vs New Catch Republic vs A-Town Down Under – Ladder match for Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
Both set of belts – RAW & SmackDown tag titles – are hanging separately. Everyone starts brawling as the bell rings. Waller and Theory set them up ladders in the middle of the ring. They climb up but others stop them. Another ladder is set up and all the competitors are on them. New Day pushes two of the ladders to send everyone crashing down to the floor. Priest dumps a ladder on top of Waller on the outside, and then on top of Ciampa. Judgment Day set up ladders in the corner.
Priest misses a senton on Bate on the ladder. Bate gets Balor and a ladder on his shoulders and goes for an Airplane Spin. He wipes out Kofi with the ladder before getting him up for an Airplane Spin. Bate and Dunne ascend the ladder to hit simultaneous moonsaults on the outside to everyone else. Bate climbs up a ladder to try to retrieve SmackDown Tag Team Championship, but Priest sends Dunne crashing on top of Bate. Miz pulls Priest down when he tries to climb up. Priest hits a big right on Miz. Balor comes in and joins him. R-Truth gets to the apron and is asking for a tag.
Miz skips past Judgment Day to tag in R-Truth. R-Truth hits John Cena’s 5 moves of dooms which ends with R-Truth dropping Balor on top of a ladder with Attitude Adjustment. He covers Balor as the crowd counts the pinfall. The Miz tells him that they need to pull the titles down. Priest goes for double chokeslam but DIY hit Priest with superkicks. DIY and Awesome Truth discuss and decide to pull down one set of titles for each. A-Town Down Under spoil their plans by pushing off the ladders. A-Town Down Under then retrieve SmackDown Tag Team Championship and are announced as the new winners of those titles.
They try to go for RAW titles also, but New Catch Republic first throw Theory out of the ring and then drop Waller through a ladder set up between the apron and the announce table. The frentic action continues. Woods hits an elbow drop on Ciampa on top of a ladder. New Day try to climb the ladder. Kofi hits a trust fall to sweep other teams on the floor. Woods is pulled off by Theory and is thrown out. New Catch Republic stop Theory from climbing to the top and hit him with Birmingham Hammer. DIY come in. Bate and Ciampa get to the top. Gargano hits a DDT on Dunne on the table outside. Ciampa hits Air Raid Crash on Bate from the top of the ladder. R-Truth comes into the ring and climbs, but JD McDonagh pulls him down to hit his finisher.
JD calls Balor to get into the ring. New Day stop Balor from retrieving the RAW titles after sending JD crashing through a set of ladders. Balor is also thrown out. Priest pulls Kofi off the ladder and drops him with the Razor’s Edge. Priest climbs the ladder. The Miz gets up as well. Priest hits him with the South of Heaven from the top of the ladder. Priest brings in another ladder. R-Truth pulls him down and throws him out with Attitude Adjustment. R-Truth then goes to the top and pulls the RAW Tag Team Championship. The Miz joins him on the top to celebrate.

Rey Mysterio & Andrade vs Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar
Legado Del Fantasma and LWO members are ringside. Rey and Escobar start the match with Escobar hits a knee to kick off. Rey counters him and Escobar quickly tags in Dominik. Rey avoids Dominik’s moves and tags in Andrade. Andrade tackles Dominik before knocking off Escobar off the apron. Andrade hits his signature back elbow on Dominik to send him to the floor. Escobar gets into the ring only for Rey to send him to the floor with a hurricanrana. Rey and Andrade hit dives on the floor.
Rey brings in Dominik and tries to whip him with a belt but Dominik throws Rey out of the ring. Andrade is also knocked out. Dominik and Escobar take control over Rey now. Escobar hits a backbreaker. Dominik hits a senton with Rey on Escobar’s knee. Rey hits punches to midsection but Dominik quickly drops him with spinning elbow. Escobar comes in for some double team moves now. He hangs Rey upside down and kicks at his chest. Escobar holds him on his knees for a while. Rey counters with a sunset flip.
Andrade and Dominik get the tags. Andrade hits dragon screw leg on both opponents. He follows up with double knees in the corner and a double jump moonsault to get a two-count. Dominik avoids a move. Rey and Escobar get the tags. Rey drops Escobar on the ropes for 619. He has to first throw Dominik out of the ring before hitting 619 on Escobar. Andrade hit a dive on Dominik on the floor. Legado members pull Rey off the top rope. Escobar brings Rey down to the mat.
Zelina Vega pulls Elektra Lopez off the apron when she distracts the referee and hits a moonsault on her. Other members of LWO hits dives after this. Cruz Del Toro takes all the members of Legado out with his massive jump. Escobar asks Dominik to bring in a steel chair. Two big-sized men, donned in masks, stop Dominik from using the chair and throw him into the ring. Rey hit a 619 on both Dominik and Escobar at the same time. Andrade hit a twisting neckbreaker on Dominik. Rey hit a frog splash on Escobar to get the pinfall.
Winners – Rey Mysterio & Andrade
After the match, all the members of LWO get into the ring to celebrate. The two masked men are revealed to be Philadelphia Eagles’ Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.
Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso
Lil Wayne raps during Jey Uso’s entrance. Jey hits a suicide dive to cut off Jimmy’s entrance. He slams Jimmy into the ring post before taking him into the ring to get the match started official. Jimmy gets to the floor and is hit with another suicide dive. Jey hits a splash from the top rope to get a two-count. Jimmy counters with a pop-up Samoan drop. He hits hip attacks in the corner. Jimmy hits more shots. Jey hits boots from the corner.
Jimmy quickly cuts short his attacks and hits several superkicks. More superkicks and Jey is down to the mat. Jimmy gets to the second rope to mimic Jey’s Yeet. He misses a splash from the top before running into a boot from Jey. Jey starts smiling as they both get up. They start trading punches. Jimmy hits elbows before an uppercut. Jey hits back with punches and an enzuigiri. They stare at each other for a while before getting into a slugfest.
Jimmy hits a superkick before Jey replies with one of his own quickly. They trade more superkicks. Jimmy has stumbled into the corner. Jey hits several more superkicks on Jimmy in the corner. Jimmy somehow stands up in the corner. Jey runs in and hits superkick which almost looks like a dropkick. Jimmy is down on his knees. Jey goes for another superkick but Jimmy begs him to stop.
Jimmy tells Jey that he is sorry. Jey is conflicted over it, but then grabs his hand and pulls him up. Jimmy gets up and hits a superkick. Jimmy hits Usos Splash, but Jey kicks out of the pinfall. Jimmy gets ready for a spear but it’s Jey hits who hits the spear. Jey hits Usos splash to get the pinfall.

Damage CTRL(Kairi Sane, Asuka & Dakota Kai) vs Bianca Belair, Naomi & Jade Cargill
A group of Japanese women are part of Damage CTRL’s special entrance. Cargill, Bianca and Naomi are cosplaying X-Men. Naomi starts the match and fights off Kabuki Warriors’ double team attempt. Kairi is the legal women and gets hit with a split leg drop by Naomi. Naomi hits Asuka with a forearm when she tries to stop her on the top rope. Kairi distracts the referee to allow Dakota to deck Naomi to drop her to the floor. Kairi hits an elbow drop on Naomi on the floor. Kabuki Warriors double team on Naomi now.
Naomi fights them off Kairi in the corner. Dakota is also knocked down. She fights off Asuka and Dakota to tag in Bianca. Bianca tackles all the opponents before hitting suplexes. She hits hammerfists from the second rope on Kabuki Warriors. Bianca sends Dakota into the corner before hitting a splash. She hits a springboard moonsault on all three opponents and covers them at the same time. They all kick out.
Bianca looks for a tag to Jade but Dakota pulls her by her braids. Damage CTRL try to keep Bianca under control. Kairi holds Bianca as Asuka goes for the poison mist. Bianca ducks it and Kairi catches the mist. Cargill gets the hot tag as Dakota comes in from the other side. Cargill tackles Dakota before hitting a chokeslam on Asuka. She catches Kairi’s crossbody before dropping her to the mat. Jade slams Dakota to the mat. Bianca gets into the ring but Asuka blocks KOD. Naomi slams Kairi face first into the mat. Bianca hits Asuka with her braids before hitting KOD. Cargill hits The Jaded on Dakota to get the pinfall.

Gunther(c) vs Sami Zayn – WWE Intercontinental Championship
Sami Zayn is backstage with his wife and son. Chad Gable comes in and wishes him good luck for his match. Gable tells Sami that he won’t be with him at ringside because he doesn’t need him. Zayn starts to go towards the stage. He meets Kevin Owens in the way and hugs him before he makes his way out.
Gunther starts the action but Sami fires off with chops and punches quickly. Gunther hits him with a big boot, chops and uppercuts to show dominance. Sami chops him back but Gunther sends him to the corner to hit a clothesline. Gunther bends Sami over the turnbuckle. He continues to hit elbows, knees, kicks, chops and more.
Sami hits back with a overhead chop. This starts trading chops between them before Sami drops Gunther with a clothesline. Gunther hits another chop before Sami hits quick punches. He hits a couple of half-and-half suplex. Gunther blocks the third one and hits a clothesline to get a close two-count.
Sami hits back with a tornado DDT. He goes for the Helluva kick but Gunther cuts him off with a choke. Sami breaks free but Gunther blocks the Blue Thunderbomb to put on another sleeper choke. Sami breaks free and hits an exploder suplex. Gunther quickly comes back to hit a powerbomb, but Sami breaks the pinfall.
Gunther hits a big boot. Sami hits back with Helluva kick in the corner but Gunther kicks out of the pinfall. Sami tries for another Helluva kick but Gunther cuts him off with a clothesline. Gunther hits two back-to-back powerbombs but Sami kicks out again. Gunther talks trash with Sami’s wife who is in the front row. She talks back at him.
Gunther boots Sami to choke him on the ropes. The referee pulls him back. Sami gets up. Gunther drops him back with a lariat. Gunther invites Sami’s wife into the ring before hitting him with another powerbomb. He hits a splash from the top rope. He hits another splash. Sami starts to fire up while Gunther is busy trash-talking with his wife. Sami meets Gunther on the top rope to hit an avalanche brainbuster. Sami hits a Helluva kick. He follows up with another one. Sami drops on Gunther to cover him and gets the pinfall.
Winner – Sami Zayn
Sami hugs and kisses his wife in the front row as he celebrates his win.
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce and Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis are in the ring. They announce tonight’s attendance to be 72,543. We see several stars in the crowd before the commentary team takes us through the match card for night 2.
The Bloodline(The Rock & Roman Reigns) vs Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins
After the hype package for the match, Cody Rhodes makes his way out. He hands his weight belt to his father-in-law in the front row, who has battled cancer. Cody’s mother is also there. Seth Rollins comes out next. The Brahma Bull is loading and has activated 10.0 version as shown on the big screen. Final Boss is engaged. The Rock comes out with the People’s Championship which was handed to him by Muhammad Ali’s wife last night at Hall of Fame 2024 induction ceremony. Roman Reigns makes his grand entrance with WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman. This is the Roman’s eighth WrestleMania main event. He equals Hulk Hogan’s record.
After the announcements, the two teams stare down for a long time. Rock and Roman first decide that it will be Roman who will start the match. Seth is starting for the other team. The crowd is singing for Seth as they circle the ring. They tie up and Roman puts on a side headlock. He hits a shoulder tackle. Roman runs his mouth as Seth gets up. Seth hits back with a superkick after the run the ropes. Roman escapes as Seth looks for a tag to Cody. Cody and Roman lock up. Cody goes for an arm wringer but Roman hits him with a clothesline in the corner. Cody hits a knee to midsection. Seth tries to sneak in a blind tag but fails to get it.
Cody and Roman lock up again. Seth gets the blind tag and gets into the ring. Roman stops in his tracks and tags in Rock. Rock pushes Seth to the mat after the lock-up. Seth bamboozles Rock with some quick maneuvers. Rock puts him to the corner and kicks at midsection. Seth fires back with punches. Rock runs him over with a clothesline and asks Cody to tag in. Cody comes in, and they tussle after the lock-up. Cody corners Rock to beat him up with punches and chops. Seth tags in to beat up Rock. They double-team to drop him with back elbows. Roman comes in to get dropped by a slingblade from Seth.
All 4 men face off. The referee tries to keep only the legal men in the ring but they start to brawl. Cody and Roman brawl on the ramp, while Rock and Seth brawl near the announce table. The referee starts to countdown, but Rock tells him not to do a countdown as he wants to beat them in the ring, or otherwise, he gets fired. Seth hits Rock with some promotional material from Prime Hydration station. Rock and Seth brawl into the crowd now. Roman hits Cody with a suplex on the stage. Rock was retreating from Seth before he got his hands on a water bottle and spat at Seth. Seth brings him back to ringside. He hits a double ax handle from the barricade.
Seth throws Rock back into the ring. Roman pulls Seth off the apron while Rock distracts the referee. Seth is selling a knee injury now. Rock works on the knee in the ring. He hits a knee breaker before slamming it into the ring post several times. Roman tags in. Cody is also back in his corner. Rock takes a cheap shot in front of the referee, but the referee does not call for disqualification in fear of getting fired. Roman puts a single leg Boston crab on Seth’s injured leg. Cody hypes Seth with the crowd behind him. Seth kicks Roman in the face. Roman kicks at his knee again before knocking Cody off the apron. Seth kicks Roman out of the ring. Rock sends Seth into the steel steps despite not being the legal man. The referee could just watch.
Rock and Roman work on Seth in the ring, whips his back into the corner hard. Roman hits his signature corner clotheslines. Roman signals for the Superman punch, but Seth ducks it and hits a neckbreaker. Roman tags in Rock who pulls Seth back. Rock hits a low blow in front of the referee. Seth starts to fight back with punches but Rock hits more punches. Seth hits him with an enzuigiri. Roman gets the tag first. Seth throws him out. Roman pulls Cody from the apron to stop the tag. Rock puts on the sharpshooter on Seth in the ring. Cody comes in and punches Rock to break the submission.
Rock goes to punch Cody but turns around to eat a superkick from Seth and a stomp. Seth could not go cover though. Cody and Roman get the tags. Cody comes in hot to hit punches, clothesline and a powerslam. He hits a disaster kick and Cody Cutter. Roman kicks out at two. Cody signals for the Crossrhodes but Roman blocks it. Roman counters Cody Cutter with a Superman punch. Cody also kicks out of the pin. Roman has blood on his nose and he gets angry. Roman signals for the spear but Cody hits him with sunset flip for a two-count.
Cody goes to his corner where Seth takes a blind tag. Cody springboards to hit Roman with a shoulder tackle before Seth hits a frog splash to get a near fall. The crowd gets behind Seth. Roman counters the stomp with a powerbomb. Seth blocks spear with a knee. Cody tags in and Seth and Cody hit superkicks. Seth hits Roman with the stomp and Cody hits Crossrhodes. Rock pulls the referee out of the ring to stop the pinfall. Seth goes to fight Rock but gets sent into the barricade. Roman hits a low blow on Cody and follows up with a spear. Rock throws the referee back into the ring but Cody kicks out of the pinfall.
Roman puts Cody in guillotine choke. Cody starts to fade. The referee drops his hand, but Cody hangs on. Rock pulls Cody’s legs to allow Roman to tighten the grip. Rollins breaks the submission with the stomp on Roman. Rock throws Seth out of the ring. Rock tags in. He picks up a weight belt with “Mama Rhodes” written on it. He argues with Cody’s mother before getting into the ring. Cody decks him and takes the belt. Rock decks him back before Cody hits his signature jabs and bionic elbow. Rock hits a spinebuster out of nowhere. Rock goes for the People’s Elbow but Cody hits him with Cody Cutter. Cody goes for the Crossrhodes on Rock, but Roman runs in to hit the Superman punch.
Roman goes for a spear on Cody, but Seth pulls him out and Roman takes out The Rock. Seth and Cody hit Roman and Rock with stereo pedigrees and go for the cover. They both kick out of the pin. Cody and Seth hype up. Cody clears the announce table. Seth hits a crossbody on Roman on the other side. Rock slams Cody’s face into the announce table before sending him into the steel steps. He sets up Cody on the announce table while talking trash to his mother. Seth pulls Rock’s leg to stop Rockbottom on the table. Cody hits Rockbottom on Rock. Roman spears Seth through the barricade in the timekeeper’s area. All 4 men are down.
Cody throws Rock into the ring. Roman hits Cody with a drive-by dropkick on the apron. He tags in. The commentators say that Seth has injured his knee on the floor. Roman hits punches. Cody starts to trade shots with him. Cody hits two Crossrhodes. He goes near the ropes for the third one but Rock hits him with a weight belt from behind. Roman hits a spear on Cody. Rock asks for a tag and gets it. Rock hits Cody with The Rockbottom. He throws a “one” in the sky before hitting the People’s elbow to get the pinfall.

Seth drags himself up near the announce table. Rock and Roman celebrate their win. Seth is distraught on the floor. The commentators say Seth is not even able to walk. Cody is also distraught as he recovers in the ring. Rock and Roman slowly get up the ramp. Seth makes it to the ring. Rock and Roman pose on the ramp as pyro goes off to close the show.
