WWE Smackdown Results New Year’s Revolution January 5, 2024
WWE SmackDown episode of January 5, 2024, has a lot of excitement in store as New Year’s Revolution special episode. Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns is set to appear on the show and is expected to respond to the Rock’s tease for their match.
His challenger for Royal Rumble will be identified in a triple threat match between Randy Orton, LA Knight and AJ Styles. Pete Dunne is set to team up with a mystery partner to face Pretty Deadly.
Iyo Sky is set to defend WWE Women’s Championship against Michin. Kevin Owens vs Santos Escobar United States Top Contender tournament final was the first match of the night. RESULTS
The show opened with a recap of The Rock’s return on WWE RAW earlier this week. Roman Reigns entered the arena in his SUV and is caught up for comments on the Rock. Roman just laughed and left.
Kevin Owens defeated Santos Escobar in the Final of United States Top Contender Tournament. Logan Paul was on the commentary for this match. Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro attacked Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza, who were in Escobar’s corner, before the match started and took them backstage. KO started the show with a superkick, cannonball and frog splash to get a near fall before we cut to a break. The crowd got into “Logan Sucks” chants several times during the match. The match itself went into a back-and-forth phase and continued through a second commercial break. KO finally hit a pop-up powerbomb and a stunner to get the pinfall.
Logan Paul cut a promo after the match saying a Canadian is not winning US title. Owens dropped him with a punch from his cast hand.
Backstage, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller caught up with Logan Paul. Cameron Grimes came in to mock Paul which led to a shoving match between Waller and Grimes.
Bobby Lashley was out to the ring with The Street Profits. Lashley said the work he put in did not translate into the results that he wanted. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins said they would make maximum of their opportunities and told tag team champions Judgment Day to be careful. Karrion Kross came out after the lights went out. Scarlett joined her and so did Paul Ellering. AOP attacked Lashley, Ford and Dawkins from behind. Kross also got into the ring to join the beat up and dropped Lashley with his finisher.
Iyo Sky(c) defeated Michin to retain WWE Women’s Championship.
Bianca Belair announced herself for women’s Royal Rumble match.
Butch & Tyler Bate defeated Pretty Deadly(Kit Wilson & Elton Prince) in a tag team match. This was Bate’s Smackdown debut. Butch and Bate hit double Tiger Driver 97 as their finisher.
Ashante “Thee” Adonis met SmackDown GM Nick Aldis to ask for opportunity despite things not going his way.
Randy Orton vs LA Knight vs AJ Styles #1 contender match for Universal Championship ended in a no contest after Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso attacked all three competitors.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis told Paul Heyman before the show ended that Roman will now have to face all three of Orton, Knight and Styles at Royal Rumble.
