Welcome to the live results blog for WWE Smackdown August 4, 2023, which was live from Dayton, OH, for the final build-up for SummerSlam 2023.

LA Knight and Sheamus clashed in the opening match in preparation of the Battle Royal at Summerslam. Other names for the Battle Royal were also revealed. Jey Uso faced Solo Sikoa in a singles match in the main event

Asuka, Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair were seen in promos for their match tomorrow. Austin Theory faced Cameron Grimes while The OC took on the Brawling Brutes. Iyo Sky took on Zelina Vega in a singles match.

RESULTS

  • LA Knight defeated Sheamus in a singles match via pinfall.
  • The Brawling Brutes(Butch & Ridge Holland) vs The OC(Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) ended in a disqualification.
  • Austin Theory defeated Cameron Grimes in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Zelina Vega defeated Iyo Sky in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Jey Uso defeated Solo Sikoa in a singles match via pinfall.

LIVE UPDATES

LA Knight vs Sheamus

LA Knight comes out and starts to talk about Battle Royal. He says anybody has got a chance to win. He calls himself the must see TV guy. He turns to talk about Sheamus and says Sheamus will have one more accomplishment to his name tonight, that is to be beaten by Knight. Sheamus makes his entrance.

Sheamus starts with a knee to midsection and a takedown. He hits a shoulder tackle next. Another shoulder tackle is followed by a back elbow from Knight. Knight hits shots in the corner. He hits a crossbody to take Sheamus out to the floor. Santos Escobar, The Miz, Karrion Kross, Grayson Waller and LA Knight come out. Knight and Sheamus are on the apron. Sheamus hits White Noise on the apron to take us to a break.

Sheamus is in control as we return from the break. Knight tries to fight back and manages to hit an inverted DDT. They trade punches before Knight hits a body slam. He hits an elbow drop before a Death Valley Driver to get a two-count. Sheamus hits an Irish Curse backbreaker to get a two-count. Sheamus takes him on the second rope to hit White Noise to get a near fall. He puts on Texas Cloverleaf but Knight gets to the ropes. Knight kicks him away with upkicks.

Sheamus gets to the top. Knight follows him up but he slips and takes Sheamus down with him as well. Austin Theory suddently attacks Santos Escobar on the outside. This leads to a brawl on the outside. Sheamus picks up The Miz and hits 10 Beats of Bothran. Knight rolls him up for a two-count. Sheamus goes for Brogue kick but Knight ducks and Sheamus catches Miz with it. Knight hits Blunt Force Trauma to get the pinfall.

Winner – LA Knight

Knight fights Grayson Waller after the match and dumps him outside. He escapes without fighting anyone else. Kross says he survived by a whisker.


After the break, we see The OC and The Brawling Brutes arguing backstage. Adam Pearce intervenes and screams at them that they should go to the ring to settle things.


We get an extended video package for Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar 3 match at Summerslam.

The Brawling Brutes(Butch & Ridge Holland) vs The OC(Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson)

Holland starts with uppercuts against Gallows. Gallows fires back with a big uppercut himself before they trade more shots. Gallows hits a fallaway slam before a corner splash. Anderson comes in for a big boot and Russian Leg Sweep combo. Holland fights back with a big punch and swinging him around before hitting a body slam. Butch hits a dropkick after the tag. He starts joint manipulation and stomps on the hand. He puts on an arm stretch. He uts on an armbar but Anderson is close to the ropes to break it. Anderson tags in to slam Butch with a powerbomb. We cut to a break.

Anderson has Holland under control as we return. Anderson rakes his face after Holland gets him up in fireman’s carry. Holland comes back with a clothesline. Butch gets the hot tag and blasts Gallows off the apron. He hits 3 enzuigiris in the corner before a leg drop to get a two-count. Holland hits Gallows with a back body drop. Anderson throws Holland out but turns to be run over by a dropkick from Butch. The Street Profits attack both team to cause a disqualification.

Results – Double Disqualification

The Street Profits attack everyone and bring everyone down. They are dressed sharp in suits. They finish off with a running tackle into a slam combo. They stand at the stage where Bobby Lashley comes to beat them.


We get a video promo from Charlotte Flair claiming to continue with her unbeaten SummerSlam run so far.

Who will be The Tribal Chief Tomorrow?

Paul Heyman comes out to the ring. He says this isn’t what Roman Reigns wanted to happen at all and we can blame Jey Uso for this. He sends us into a video package of The Tribal Combat match. He says Jey will never be Tribal Chief. Jey Uso comes out. He says he will beat Roman up with all kind of weapons. He will bring in his passion and the spirit of his ancestors and culture to beat Roman, win the Universal title and become the Tribal Chief.

Solo Sikoa comes out. Jey tells Solo to chill. Paul starts to talk after taking cover from Solo. Jey tells Solo that no matter what happens he is his brother and he can always forgive him. Solo is being told all the same things that Roman told him. Heyman tries to counter it but stops talking when he sees an enraged Solo. He tells Solo to have a private chat. Solo tells him to get out of the ring now. Jey nails Solo with a superkick. He tells Heyman to tell Roman that he will see him tomorrow.


Kayla Braxton interviews Austin Theory backstage. Theory takes shots at Santos Escobar and says he hopes Rey Mysterio is watching, because he will dedicate this match next week to him. Austin makes his entrance for his match against Cameroon Grimes.

Cameron Grimes vs Austin Theory

They lock and go back-and-forth for a while. Santos Escobar comes out. The referees are keep him away from the ringside. Grimes hits Cave-in with Theory distracted, but Theory manages to kick out. They trade shots until Grimes hits a body slam. She hits a crossbody powerslam next. Grimes goes to the top but Austin gets up to cut him off. He hits Ushi Garoshi before hitting A-Town Down to get the pinfall.

Winner – Austin Theory

After the match, Santos Escobar hits Theory with the Phantom Driver.


We get a video package for Asuka before her title defense at SummerSlam.

Grayson Waller w/ Iyo Sky & Bayley

Grayson Waller starts the show and says one woman is not enough for him and there will be two guests on his show. He brings out Ms. Money in the Bank Iyo Sky and Bayley. Waller takes shot at Bayley’s Ding Dong Hello. Waller asks Iyo if she will cash in MITB briefcase. Bayley cuts her off and says Iyo is not fool to reveal their plans for SummerSlam. Suddenly, Shotzi’s screams takes over the arena. Bayley gets scared and starts scampering. Waller laughs and tells her that it was his setup.

Bayley warns her never to repeat it. Shotzi’s music hits and a tank comes out on the stage. Bayley sends Iyo to take care of Shotzi, but Shotzi is actually behind Bayley in the ring. Bayley slips in the ring. Shotzi brings out a trimmer but Bayley runs into the crowd. Who was in the tank though? Zelina Vega removes the helmet to reveal herself.

Iyo Sky vs Zelina Vega

Vega hits an up-kick as we return to see the match in progress already. Both women drop each other with clotheslines. Vega fires some punches before slamming Iyo’s face into the turnbuckle. She hits another clothesline before a Meteora from the top rope. Iyo comes back with a double underhook backbreaker. Iyo hits double knees in the corner. Shotzi and Bayley are out on the stage as Iyo gets to the top rope. Bayley pushes Shotzi away and runs back. Vega brings Iyo down and hits Code Red to get the pinfall.

Winner – Zelina Vega

We get a video package for Bianca Belair next.


The commentary team takes us through the match card for SummerSlam.

Jey Uso vs Solo Sikoa

Jey tries to talk to Solo. Solo pushes Jey away after the lock up. More talking from Jey before he puts on a side headlock. Solo hits a shoulder tackle as Jey comes off the ropes. Solo hits a headbutt before working on his brother on the ropes. He hits a back elbow and Jey slips to the floor. Solo slams his face into the announce table. He clears the table but Jey avoids Spinning Solo through the table and slams Solo’s face into the table. He hits a suicide dive to take us to a break.

Solo is in control as we return. He has a vice grip on Jey’s shoulder. We see that he made a comeback during the match with a belly-to-belly suplex. Jey fires shots to midsection to break free. He uses a low bridge to send Solo the floor. Solo nails a punch to cut off a suicide dive. He hits a Samoan Drop next. Jey hits punches to midsection but Solo no-sells them and hits a big shot. Solo goes for a hip attack in the corner but Jey moves away. Jey fires big rights before a kick to midsection and an uppercut. Solo runs him over with a clothesline.

Jey drops his face on the ropes before a crossbody from the top rope to get a two-count. Solo hits a spinning heel kick to get a two-count. He hits Spinning Solo next. Jey ducks the Samoan Spike and hits a superkick. Solo hits back with a superkick but Jey uses the momentum off the ropes to hit a spear. Jey hits Usos splash to get the pinfall.

Winner – Jey Uso

Solo attacks Jey after the match. He takes Jey to the floor and picks up a steel chair. Jey uses the chair to attack Solo and puts him over the timekeeper’s area. Jey stands on top of the announce table to close the show.
