Welcome to the live results blog for WWE SmackDown August 18, 2023, which was live from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, with the build-up towards Payback 2023.

The episode was centered around Edge who celebrated his 25 years in WWE. He was also set for a match against Sheamus. Apart from this, Rey Mysterio was set to feature in Grayson Waller Effect, which led to a singles match between Austin Theory and LA Knight.

Damage CTRL’s Iyo Sky and Bayley were in tag team action against Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair. The Street Profits returned to action in a tag team match. RESULTS

  • Austin Theory defeated LA Knight in a singles match via pinfall.

LIVE UPDATES

Grayson Waller Effect with Rey Mysterio

Grayson Waller is in the ring. He says he can’t wait to hear thank you from Edge for making him relevant again. The crowd boos him before he brings out United States Champion Rey Mysterio with Santos Escobar. We see a recap of Rey Mysterio becoming the champions last week. Waller asks Rey how is he feeling. The crowd gets behind Rey before he replies that he is hillarious. Waller tries to put up some tension between Rey and Escobar but Rey says the title is for LWO, and not alone from him. Waller rants on The Legends like Rey who are not ready to pass the torch.

Escobar intervenes and says he is only angry at Austin Theory who injured him last week, and has great respect for Rey who is like family to him. Austin Theory comes out and starts his promo on the ramp. He takes a shot at Rey asking where is his Father of the Year trophy. Theory asks who is running this show as how easily his opponent was changed last week. Theory demands Adam Pearce to come out and announce a rematch for him. Pearce comes out and brings out LA Knight. Knight takes a shot at Theory for calling himself the greatest US Champion and says he fumbled the ball. Knight gives his respect to Rey before challenging Theory for a match. Adam Pearce makes the match official and says the winner will get a shot at United States Championship.

LA Knight vs Austin Theory

The Miz comes out before the match starts to join the commentary. Theory rushes Knight and unloads in the corner. Theory hits short clotheslines before a suplex. Knight comes out of the corner with a clothesline and an elbow drop from the second rope. He hits a powerslam before Theory throws him out to the floor. Theory slams his face into the apron and the barricade. Knight also slams Theory’s face into the announce table 5-6 times. The Miz runs his mouth to distract Knight which allows Theory to hit him with big boot. Knight slams his face into the announce table once again and throws him into The Miz. We cut to a break.

Knight is firing punches as we return. He hits a shoulder tackle before Theory trips him and gets him to the match. Theory stomps on him a few times. Knight counters a rolling DDT with a side slam. Knight slams Theory into the turnbuckle before a clothesline and a big boot to get a two-count. Knight stomps in the corner with the crowd behind his back. He hits a running knee before Theory avoids BFT and hits a chop block to his knee. Knight blocks A-Town Down and hits a powerslam. The Miz runs another distraction but Knight manages to counter Theory to hit a DDT. Theory chases The Miz who gets into the ring. Knight clotheslines Miz out of the ring. Theory rolls him up from behind and holds onto the trunk’s to get the pinfall.

Winner – Austin Theory

We get a video package with the likes of John Cena, Natalya, Charlotte Flair, Sheamus and Sami Zayn wishing Edge on his 25 years in WWE.


After the break, we get another video for Edge with highlights of his 25 years in the promotion.

Bianca Belair & Charlotte Flair vs Damage CTRL(Iyo Sky & Bayley)

Bayley and Bianca start the match. Bianca gets on Bayley’s waist but Bayley stomps on her foot. Bianca gets a waistlock takedown on the second attempt. She hits a shoulder tackle in the corner and a suplex. Charlotte tags in and kicks at Bayley into the corner before some chops. Bayley turns a back body drop in a roll up but Flair quickly hits her with a big boot. Bayley kicks back at her and tags in Iyo to hit a chop on Flair. Flair fights both opponents and sends them to the floor to take them out with a senton off the apron. We cut to a break.

Flair is trying to fight back against Bayley as we return. Flair hits a backbreaker on her knees in the corner. Flair gets to the top rope. Bayley brings her down with an overhead throw to get a two-count. Iyo puts on a chinlock after her tag. Flair hits a back elbow as she break free. Iyo uses her athleticism to get Flair from tijeras into a crossface. Flair tries to tag out but Iyo keeps her away from the corner. Flair hits a back body drop and goes to ther corner but fails to tag in Bianca. Iyo knocks Bianca off the apron. Iyo hits a dropkick next.

Bianca gets a hot tag after Flair counters Iyo. Bianca hits tackles and suplexes before unloading on Iyo from the second rope. She sends Bayley into Iyo before hitting Bayley with a handspring moonsault. Iyo attacks her from behind and starts working on her knee once again. Bayley tags in and spikes her knee to the mat. Bianca hits a neckbreaker on Bayley and a DDT on Iyo at the same time. Tag to Flair who hits a crossbody off the top rope. She hits chops before a fallaway slam and handspring clothesline on Bayley to get a two-count.

Flair gets to the top rope. Bayley pushes her off to the floor. Bayley stomps on her a few times before bringing her in to get a two-count. Iyo tags in but misses Over the Moonsault. Iyo nails her with a big uppercut. She goes for the spear but Flair gets away from it, leading to Iyo crashing in the corner. Bayley tags in and Flair blocks the figure four. She kicks Bayley away and tags in Bianca. Flair boots Bayley into Bianca’s KOD for the pinfall.

We get another video package from other superstars talking about Edge.


Bianca is interviewed backstage after the break. Damage CTRL attacks her from behind and beat her up. They wrap a chair around her knee and slams another chair on it to aggravate her injury.

The Street Profits(Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs The OC(Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows)

Gallows starts with unloading on Ford in anger. Anderson tags in and double team to beat up Ford some more before chops and kicks. Ford comes off the ropes to hit a clothesline. Dawkins tags in and stomps on Anderson. Anderson hits a big boot before before Dawkins hits an uppercut. Dawkins knocks Gallows off the top before a neckbreaker on Anderson. Ford hits a frog splash but Gallows breaks the pin. Dawkins fights Gallows out of the ring. Anderson fights back and they drop Ford with a double team DDT. Ford kicks out of the pin. Ford fights out of Magic Killer and sends Anderson to the floor to hit a suicide dive. Dawkins sends Gallows to the floor. The Street Profits hits a sitout powerbomb and neckbreaker combo finisher to get the pinfall on Anderson.

Bobby Lashley comes out to the stage to celebrate with The Profits.


Kayla Braxton is with Paul Heyman to talk about the issues in the Bloodline and Jey Uso “quitting”. Heyman does not answer anything and beats around the bush, even saying that he has heard rumors about Kayla’s cousins. He gets a call where someone informs him that Jimmy Uso will address the fans next week on SmackDown.

Edge vs Sheamus

Sheamus makes his entrance as we cut to a break. The crowd anticipates the entrance of Edge. He makes his entrance amid huge cheers. They lock up and Edge hits a shoudler tackle off the ropes to drop Sheamus. Sheamus goes for an arm wringer and puts on a side headlock. He hits as shoulder tackle next. He hits a Irish Curse Backbreaker to take us to a break.

Edge is firing back with punches as we return. He his a springboard back elbow. He brings down Sheamus a couple of times. He sends Sheamus to the apron. He slips down in between his legs to pick him up and hits a powerbomb on the floor. Back to the ring, he hits a crossbody from the top rope to get a two-count. He goes for sharpshooter but Sheamus kicks him away. Sheamus hits a body slam to get a two-count. Sheamus sets up 10 Beats of Bothran but Edge blocks it and hits a series of punches. He hits knee strikes to midsection next. Sheamus lands on the apron and Edge spears him off it. Both men are down on the floor. We cut to a break.

Sheamus has Edge in Cloverleaf lock as we return for the second time. Beth Pheonix motivates him from the first row along with the crowd. Edge transitions into a crossface. Sheamus drags himself to the ropes to break the move. Sheamus hits a big boot from the corner and gets to the top rope. Edge hits him with a big boot on the top rope. Edge gets to the top rope and hits a superplex and quickly follows up with Edgecution to get a near fall. Edge gets to the top rope this time. Sheamus nails him with big body shots. He hits White Noise from the second rope. Sheamus follows it up with Celtic Cross, but Edge kicks out of the pin.

Edge rolls towards the ropes. Sheamus hits 10 Beats of Bothran. Edge dares him to hit more. Sheamus follows suit with more shots to his chest. Edge is down now. Sheamus picks him up but Edge slaps him and then hit a clothesline. He gets ready for a spear but Sheamus catches him with a knee and Brogue kick. Edge kicks out of the pin once again. Edge comes back with a spear but Sheamus kicks out. They get up and charge at each other. Edge hits another spear and gets the pinfall.

Winner – Edge

They hug each other after the match. The show goes off the air.

  1. I won’t be surprised to see Asuka show up tonight and take out all 4 women in the tag match! She deserves to regain the new title that Triple H conveyed to her with the understanding that she would enjoy a long reign, just like Rhea and Roman – not 70 days of lousy booking??
