WrestleMania 40: Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee vs Escobar & Dominik Official
A tag team match between the teams of Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee and Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio has been made official for WWE WrestleMania 40 event.
The challenge for the match was issued during this week’s SmackDown episode by Rey Mysterio who leads LWO as the group had a face off with Escobar led Legado Del Fantasma and Dominik Mysterio. WWE made the official announcement during Smackdown Low Down episode on Saturday.
Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik, have had issues since 2022, when Dominik turned on his father and joined Judgment Day. After Rey tried to avoid the confrontation, the duo finally had a match at WrestleMania 39, where Rey came out victorious.
In the aftermath, Rey re-formed LWO(Latino World Order) where Santos Escobar was a member. Tension between Rey and Escobar rose when Carlito held Escobar responsible for Rey losing United States Championship to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel 2023 event.
Escobar later turned on Rey to attack him in November which sidelined Rey with an injury. Escobar continued to feud with LWO and re-formed his faction Legado Del Fantasma with new members. Rey finally returned on March 1 SmackDown episode to fight Legado and help Carlito beat Escobar in a street fight.
Escobar later defeated Rey in a singles match on March 22 episode as Dominik ran an interference and attacked Rey during the match.
WWE WrestleMania 40 is set to take place over two nights on April 6 and April 7. It is not announced on which night will this tag team match is scheduled. Another tag team match that was added to the card this week would feature Damage CTRL facing Jade Cargill, Naomi and Bianca Belair.
