Sanada Retains IWGP Title at Forbidden Door, Jengle Boy Turns on Hook

Sanada successfully defended IWGP World Championship against Jungle Boy Jack Perry in a singles match at AEW NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 event, which was followed by Jungle Boy turning on Hook in frustration.

Storyline

On the June 14 episode of Dynamite, Sanada announced an open challenge for IWGP World Heavyweight Title. Jungle Boy Jack Perry accepted the challenge later that night, and the match was made official. 

Sanada took shots at Jungle Boy by saying he never knew who Jungle Boy was, whereas the latter reciprocated by saying he hadn’t watched any of Sanada’s matches. Jack Perry defeated Sanada’s stablemate Douki in a singles match on Rampage to put Sanada on notice. Sanada also appeared and had a face-off with Jungle Boy Jack Perry.

These two start by locking up before Sanada sends Perry to the ropes. Sanada drops Perry who then rolls through an arm drag. Perry puts him in the snare trap but Sanada gets to the rope. 

Sanada sends Perry to the floor a dropkick. The latter comes back and does the same with Sanada and then follows with a suicide dive. Sanada goes for the Paradise lock, but Perry counters it with a kick.

Perry hits Sanada with chops before the latter drops him with a chop of his own. Sanada hits him with a boot before Perry hits the dropkick. Perry then manages to connect Tiger Driver for two-count. 

Sanada hits dragon screw legs before they trade some chops. They trade some uppercuts as well before Perry attempts to cover via backslide. Perry puts on Skull End but Sanada gets to the rope. 

Sanada hits a dropkick to send Perry on the floor. The latter comes back and does the same with Sanada and then follows with a suicide dive. Sanada goes for the Paradise lock, but Perry counters it with a kick.

Sanada hits TKO for two-count. He goes for the moonsault, but he misses it and lands on his feet. Sanada hits a shining wizard and a moonsault from the top rope to get the pinfall. 

After the match, Jack Perry turns on Hook and drops him on the ramp with a clothesline.
