A new report mentions that WWE has plans to hand a new WWE Universal Championship belt to Roman Reigns at SmackDown tonight.

The Tribal Chief is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion as he holds unified Universal and WWE Championship. He has been carrying two belts ever since he unified them at WrestleMania 38 by beating Brock Lesnar. However, his ordeal of carrying two belts is about to end, per a Fightful Select report.

Roman Reigns is set for a celebration segment on SmackDown June 2 for completing 1000 days as Universal Champion. He becomes the first WWE World Champion to achieve this feat since Hulk Hogan in 1980s. Roman has defended the title more than 20 times in this reign.

Fightful Select reports that Roman will be handed a new title belt during this celebration as of Thursday(June 1) evening. The report adds that a podium is set to be in the ring and the unveiling will be similar to The Rock unveiled the new WWE Championship back in 2013.

The murmurs around a new WWE Title belt started late last year and were said to be in Triple H’s plans for WWE in 2023. There were other reports during the last few months to introduce new belts for tag team titles and both women’s titles also. It seems that the 1000 Days milestone is chosen as the day to unveil the new Universal Champion.

If the title goes by Universal Championship name, then it ends 60 years of lineage of WWE Championship. WWE recently introduces a new World Heavyweight Championship as Seth Rollins became the inaugural champion by beating AJ Styles at Night of Champions 2023.

WWE SmackDown is set to air from Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on June 2. Money in the Bank qualifying matches are also announced for the show along with Roman’s celebration. You can check the preview here.
