Welcome to the live results page for NJPW G1 Climax 33 tournament Night 16, on August 9, 2023, live from Shizuoka, Japan, which featured the final round of league games from Block D to find the final wrestlers to advance to the quarterfinals.
Block D was in a tangle with a lot of permutations and combinations. Tetsuya Naito was set to face Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event. Naito’s win could have forwarded him to the quarterfinal. Tanahashi could also go forward in the tournament if Sabre and Cobb also lost followed by his win.
Zack Sabre Jr. was in the co-main event to face Hirooki Goto but he needed to outscore either Jeff Cobb or Naito, who all were at 8 points. A win for Cobb against Sabre’s teammate Shane Haste meant he would have qualified for quarterfinal. Toru Yano and Alex Coughlin were already out of the tournament.
