Kenny Omega vs Adam Page World Title Match Set for AEW Full Gear
AEW President, Tony Khan confirmed that Kenny Omega will defend his AEW World Championship against “Hangman” Adam Page at AEW Full Gear 2021 PPV.
The fans saw the same match-up at last year’s AEW Full Gear as well. On that night, Kenny Omega defeated Adam Page in the finals of the AEW World Title Eliminator tournament to become the number #1 contender for AEW World Championship.
Omega then defeated Moxley in December 2020 to become the AEW World Champion and has been the champion since. Page’s resurrection storyline started at the start of this year as he started raking up wins and climbed to the top of the AEW Singles ranking.
Tony Khan was at My Mother’s Basement Podcast where he confirmed that match. Khan believes that this match is very fitting as this year Adam Page won the casino battle royal to become the no. 1 contender and now he will face the person who earned the championship opportunity at the last year’s PPV.
AEW has been able to create quite a buzz around this match with a long-drawn storyline. Page was unable to become the inaugural AEW World Champion when he lost to Chris Jericho at AEW All Out 2019 PPV. Later, he would become AEW Tag Team Champion with Kenny Omega.
Omega and Page established the tag titles in AEW but soon the cracks emerged between them. The Young Bucks and Omega threw Page out from the Elites after his mistake resulted in Omega and Page losing the tag team titles. Omega turned soon after and defeated Page in the final of World Title Eliminator Tournament at Full Gear 2020.
Omega got a heel manager in Don Callis and The Young Bucks and The Good Brothers by his side to start his reign of terror while Page stayed away from the Elites as much as could. Page was primed to face Omega for the title days before Double or Nothing PPV, but lost a crucial match to Brian Cage to lose his #1 ranking.
As fate would have it, Page finally confronted Omega at AEW Road Rager to bring the rivalry back on track. However, their title match was averted once again as The Elites defeated Page and Dark Order in a tag team elimination match at AEW Fight for the Fallen.
Page went on a hiatus after this, and only returned two weeks back at AEW Dynamite’s 2nd Anniversary show as the Joker in the Casino Ladder match and won the match to become the #1 contender to face Omega.
