CM Punk is the new AEW World Champion coming out of AEW Double or Nothing 2022 PPV.

The Best in the World defeated “Hangman” Adam Page in the main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, becoming the fifth AEW World Champion. This is his first world title in pro-wrestling in 9 years since he lost the WWE Championship to The Rock at Royal Rumble 2013.

A hard-fought match saw both men crumbling on their knees while attempting Buckshot Lariat. Page hurt his knees while hitting a moonsault on Punk on the floor as he landed awkwardly, which led to him slowing down on his finisher. The match also saw both men hitting each other’s finishers. Page hit GTS and Punk hit Buckshot Lariat, leading to near falls.

Near the end, Page sent Punk into the timekeeper’s area and told him that he will never get his hands on the AEW title. As they got back to the ring, the referee got knocked out as Page tried to stop GTS from Punk. Page got his eyes on the AEW title and got conflicted about whether to use it or not, wasting some valuable time. Punk recovered in the meantime along with the referee. As Page went for the Buckshot Lariat, Punk countered and hit GTS to get the pin.

CM Punk arrived in AEW last August in his hometown on Chicago. Since then, he has had major feuds with the likes of MJF, and before that Eddie Kingston. He became the #1 contender after beating MJF at Revolution 2022 and a series of singles wins following that. The match was officially confirmed last month as the build-up to Double or Nothing started.

It remains to be seen what are AEW’s plans for Punk leading to Forbidden Door PPV and further. You can check the video highlights from Adam Page vs CM Punk match below:
