AEW Double or Nothing 2022 will the fourth event in the “Double or Nothing” series and AEW’s second PPV event of 2022. The show is scheduled for May 29 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

CM Punk will challenge AEW World Champion Adam Page in the main event. Thunder Rosa will defend the Women’s title against Serena Deeb. The finals of the inaugural Men and Women Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will take place on this show. AEW Tag Team title will be on the line in a triple threat match. TBS Women’s title match will see Jade Cargill defending against Anna Jay. Jericho Appreciation Society will face Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz in Anarchy in the Arena match.

AEW confirmed on February 24, 2022, that Double of Nothing PPV will air on May 29, 2022, at T-Mobile Arena. This is the first time that AEW is holding a PPV at T-Mobile Arena, which is now the biggest arena(capacity wise) where AEW is holding a PPV. The tickets went on sale on March 4, 2022, and were sold out within hours.

On December 17, 2021, AEW revealed that the inaugural Owen Hart Tournaments for Men and Women divisions will take place in May 2022, and the final will take place at Double or Nothing PPV.

Adam Cole defeated Dax Harwood in the first round match and later defeated Jeff Hardy to qualify for the final. Samoa Joe defeated Johnny Elite in the first round and Kyle O’Reilly in the semifinal to reach the final.

From the women’s side, Britt Baker defeated Maki Itoh and Toni Storm to reach the finals. Ruby Soho defeated Riho in the first round and Kris Statlander in the semifinal to make her spot in the final.

On April 20, 2022 episode of Dynamite, CM Punk was celebrating his win over Dustin Rhodes when AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page came out to the stage for a brief staredown. On April 27 episode of Dynamite, AEW officially announced a match between Page and Punk. During the build-up, Punk defeated John Silver while Page defeated Konosuke Takeshita in different singles matches. On the go-home edition of Dynamite for Double or Nothing, Page said he will not only be defending AEW World title from Punk, but will also defend AEW from Punk.

On April 20, 2022 episode of Dynamite, AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa said she will defend the title at Double or Nothing. On May 4, 2022, AEW confirmed that Serena Deeb will challenge for the title after a promo segment between Rose and Deeb. Deeb cut a promo against Rosa on Dynamite episode of May 18, where he also called out the likes of Tony Schiavone and Dustin Rhodes for giving undue support to Rosa. Rosa replied with her own promo on May 25 edition of Dynamite and said she has lost her respect for Deeb and claimed to win their match.

Eddie Kingston defeated Chris Jericho at AEW Revolution 2022. There was already some tension brewing between Jericho and his Inner Circle teammates Santana and Ortiz. On the following episode of Dynamite, Jericho turned heel by attacking Kingston. Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard and Angelo Parker as well as Jake Hager joined Jericho when Santana and Ortiz tried to make the save. The two factions continued to feud for the coming months. Jon Moxley, Kingston’s former tag team partner, also joined the storyline along with Bryan Danielson. On May 18 episode of Dynamite, the two factions were involved in a promo segment where Moxley challenged for a 5-on-5 tag team match. Jericho tried to turn the match in to Stadium Stampede match, but Moxley said it will be a different stipulation. AEW later confirmed that this will be Anarchy in the Arena match, which will be similar to a Street Fight.

Red Velvet faced Kris Statlander in the round 1 match of women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament on AEW Rampage episode of May 20. Statlander defeated Velvet despite interferences from the Baddies(Kiera Hogan & Jade Cargill). After the match, Hogan and Cargill attacked Statlander but Ruby Soho and, later, Anna Jay came out to save Statlander. Later in the show, Cargill challenged Jay to face her at Double or Nothing in TBS Women’s Championship match.

During the match between MJF and CM Punk at AEW Revolution 2022, Wardlow came out seemingly to assist MJF. But, he instead handed CM Punk with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, leading to Punk beating MJF. MJF then forced Wardlow to sit home as Wardlow was contracted to him and not AEW. As Wardlow asked to be released from the contract, MJF presented him with a new challenge every week. Wardlow defeated the likes of Butcher, Lance Archer and W. Morrissey week after week. MJF finally agreed to have a match against Wardlow if he agreed to defeat Shawn Spears in a Steel Cage match and have 10 lashes from MJF. Wardlow agreed to those terms. On May 25 episode of Dynamite, Wardlow defeated Spears in a steel cage match despite MJF acting as special guest referee. Wardlow will be released from his contract with MJF if he wins.

Adam Cole defeated Jeff Hardy in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament semifinal match on Dynamite episode of May 18, 2022. After the match, Adam Cole attacked The Hardys. The Young Bucks also hit them with BTE Trigger. The Undisputed Elite stood tall over Darby Allin, Sting and The Hardys. On the May 20 episode of AEW Rampage, The Young Bucks challenged The Hardys for a tag team match. The Hardys accepted the challenge later.

Team Taz(Powerhouse Hobbs & Ricky Starks) has been on Keith Lee and Shane “Swerve” Strickland’s back ever since they arrived at AEW in the early part of 2022. Both teams have been involved in several singles and tag team matches ever since. Team Taz asked for a tag team title shot against AEW World Tag Team Champions Jurrasic Express. Jungle Boy agreed to the title shot if Ricky Starks also gave him a match for the FTW title. Starks defeated Jungle Boy on May 11 episode of AEW Dynamite. Meanwhile, Lee and Strickland won several tag team matches and got into top 5 of AEW Tag Team Rankings. On May 18 episode of Dynamite, they challenged Jurrasic Express for tag team title match. Team Starks also came out to stake their claim for a title shot. Jurrasic Express agreed to face both teams at Double or Nothing.

Danhausen has cursed many wrestlers ever since he came to AEW. However, his curse did not work on Hook even after multiple attempts. Hook continued to ignore Danhausen week in week out. Later, Danhausen offered his friendship to Hook. Tony Nese defeated Danhausen in a squash match at May 13 episode of Rampage. Hook saved Danhausen from a post-match attack from Nese and “Smart” Mark Sterling. On May 18 episode of Dynamite, a tag team match was then announced between Danhausen & Hook vs Tony Nese and Mark Sterling for pre-show of Double or Nothing.

House of Black has been feuding with Death Triangle since February 2022. Both teams have traded wins in tag team matches on Dynamite. PAC and Penta Oscura teamed up with Erik Redbeard to face the trio at AEW Revolution pre-show where House of Black got the win. The rivalry was reignited when PAC, and later, Rey Fenix made their returns in April 2022. This has led to a trios match between the two factions at Double or Nothing.

Darby Allin and Sting have been supporting The Hardys ever since Jeff Hardy’s arrival to AEW. After Adam Cole defeated Jeff in the semifinal of Owen Hart Foundation tournament on May 18 episode of Dynamite, The Undisputed Elite attacked the Hardys. Allin and Sting came to make the save, but Sting got injured during the brawl. On the next episode of Dynamite, Allin challenged Kyle O’Reilly for a match at Double or Nothing by claiming that it was O’Reilly who is responsible for Sting’s injury.

Scorpio Sky defeated Sammy Guevara on Dynamite March 9 episode. In the post-match brawl, MMA fighter Paige Vanzant signed a contract with AEW after the post-match brawl and sitting on top of Tay Conti. Guevara won the title back at Battle of the Belts II event. Sky once again won the TNT title two weeks later at Dynamite episode of April 27. Sky defended the title successfully against Frankie Kazarian on May 13 episode of Rampage. On May 20 episode of Rampage, Guevara, Conti and Kazarian destroyed the TNT belt after Sky and team refused a mixed tag team match. On May 27 Rampage, Sky was awared a new customized TNT title. Guevara, Conti and Kazarian appeared at the American Top Team office and stole several UFC title belts. An enraged Sky then challenged the trio for a tag team match with Page and Vanzant partnering with him.
