AEW Dynamite December 27

AEW presented New Year’s Smash Dynamite special on December 27, 2023, which was also the last Dynamite show of 2023. The semifinals for Continental Classic took place on the show with the likes of Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston and Jay White in action.

Samoa Joe and MJF will take on two of the masked men from The Devil’s team. Renee Paquette interviewing Mariah May, Kris Statlander vs Skye Blue and a sitdown between Adam Copeland and Christian Cage was also announced for the show.

RESULTS


Jon Moxley defeated Jay White and Swerve Strickland in a Gold League semifinal of Continental Classic 2023. Moxley pinned Swerve after White pushed Swerve off the top rope and into a deathrider from Moxley.

Swerve Strickland was interviewed backstage where he accepted challenge from Keith Lee for a match at Worlds End.

Mariah May came to the stage for an interview with Renee Paquette where she announced that she would have her AEW debut next week at Dynamite. Riho came out to attack her, but Toni Storm also ran out. Riho cleared Toni from the ring and hit her and her butler with a crossbody.

Miro got a vignette where he said he was about to kill everyone. He wanted to fight Andrade El Idolo not because he is his wife’s client, but because he is an a##hole. He would see Andrade at Worlds End.

Don Callis held Boxing week celebration in the ring. He presented Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher with new paintings before Sammy Guevara came out. Sammy was angry that Callis did not even talk to him after he got a concussion. Hobbs and others attacked Sammy. Chris Jericho ran out with his baseball bat to make the save, leading to Jericho and Sammy making amends. Ricky Starks and Big Bill attacked them. The lights went off and on, and Sting and Darby Allin were in the ring to attack Starks and Bill.

Eddie Kingston defeated Bryan Danielson in the Blue League semifinal of Continental Classic.

Jon Moxley came out after the match to have a promo with Eddie Kingston to hype their final match at Worlds End.

Christian Cage was backstage for a sitdown interview with Adam Copeland opposite him. Copeland made him wait for a long time before attacking him, leading to a backstage brawl.

Skye Blue defeated Kris Statlander in a singles match after outside interference from Julia Hart. This was the first time this year that Kris Statlander got pinned this year. Julia and Skye beat up Kris after the match until Willow Nightingale returned to make the save. Abadon also came out to the stage to hype her showdown with Julia at the PPV this weekend.

Ruby Soho and Saraya were backstage for an interview. Saraya told Soho that she has got Soho something helpful. Harley Cameron came in and said she would do anything Soho wanted. Soho left to get a call from Angelo Parker.

MJF came out for his ROH Tag Team title defense. His partner Samoa Joe was attacked backstage by the Devil’s team. MJF said he would defend the title alone.

The Masked Men defeated MJF in a handicapped match to win ROH Tag Team Championship. After MJF started the match strong, a third masked man hit MJF from outside. One of the man in the match hit MJF with Heatseeker and got the pinfall with other team member assisting him from the ropes.

After the match, Samoa Joe ran out hobbling on one leg with a steel chair to save MJF. A message from The Devil showed on the big screen, saying “it was a pleasure doing business with you”. Joe then hit MJF with steel chair from behind to reveal that he was working with the Devil. Joe hit MJF with a muscle buster. He stood tall in the corner with AEW World Championship to close the show.
