Dana White confirmed three bouts including a #1 contender fight between Robert Whittaker vs Dricus Du Plessis for the UFC 290 PPV event. 

UFC President Dana White himself confirmed Robert Whittaker vs Dricus Du Plessis for UFC 290 on July 8 with the winner challenging Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title later this year in a PPV event targeted in Sydney. 

Robert Whittaker lost only two fights since 2014, and both of these losses came against Israel Adesanya. Whittaker defeated Marvin Vettori in his most recent bout via unanimous decision in September 2022. 

On the other hand, Dricus Du Plessis is riding on an impressive five-fight winning streak. He hasn’t lost a single match ever since he joined UFC. Du Plessis is coming off a second-round TKO win against Derek Brunson at UFC 285

Moreover, Dana White also announced Jalin Turner vs Dan Hooker and Robbie Lawler vs Niko Price for UFC 290 event. 

UFC 290 is scheduled for July 8 and will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada, Las Vegas. The main event is not confirmed yet, but it is likely that Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez UFC featherweight title unification bout will headline this event.
