WWE SmackDown will air from Thompson Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN on September 17, 2021. This will be the second last SmackDown episode before Extreme Rules PPV. Finn Balor just revealed that he will come out as the Demon at Extreme Rules. This episode will revolve mainly around Roman Reigns’ reaction to that development.

How will Roman Take Down Demon?: Roman Reigns has been unstoppable ever since winning the Universal Championship one year back. However, Finn Balor in his Demon avatar has been undefeated every time he showed up in WWE. Is this the biggest threat for Roman’s Universal until now? Probably, it is! So, how will Roman respond to this?

Rick Boogs vs Robert Roode: Rick Boogs will take on Robert Roode in a singles match this week on Smackdown.

Seth Rollins: After defeated Edge last week, Seth Rollins will address the fans over the nefarious ways he used to defeat the Rated R superstar.

Bianca’s Homecoming: Bianca Belair will come to SmackDown in her hometown in Knoxville, TN.

Acknowledge Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns comes out to open the show. We get the recap from last week about what happened with Brock Lesnar and Finn Balor. We are reminded of Roman’s matches lined up against The Demon and Brock Lesnar.

Roman asks the crowd to acknowledge him. The crowd boos. Roman asks Paul Heyman to educate the fans on how and why to acknowledge Heyman. Heyman takes the mic and says Roman fears no human, no beast and no demon. He then goes on explain how Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar fear Roman.

Heyman is interrupted by WWE Champion Big E’s music. Big E enters and the crowd pops. Roman and Big E face-off in the ring and show off their titles. Finn Balor’s music hits and he also comes out. We cut to a break.

The Usos(Jey & Jimmy) vs Big E & Finn Balor

Balor takes Jimmy to the corner and hits shoulder tackles. He hits a dropkick next and tags in Big E. Jimmy decks Big E and tags in Jey. Big E takes him down and hits a splash on the apron. The Usos double team against the WWE Champion and unload on him in the corner. Jey hits a suplex next.

Big E fights back against Jimmy and tags in Balor. Balor drops Jey from the apron and hits quick moves against Jimmy. Jey gets the blind tag and trips Balor. The Usos take him to the floor as we cut to the break.

The Usos are still in control as we return. Balor tries to escape and tag in Big E but gets sent into the turnbuckle. After some tussle, Balor hits a Pele kick to get an opening to tag out. Big E comes in hot and hits Belly to Belly suplexes and a standing splash. Jey hits him with a Samoan drop. Big E hits Urinagi before Jimmy runs in.

Jimmy tags in and hits a superkick. Balor stops the double team attack. Big E hits the Big Ending on Jimmy and Balor hits Coupe de Grace on Jey. Big E pins Jey to win the match.

Winner – Big E & Finn Balor

Roman is with Paul Heyman and asks him if there is anything that he should know. Heyman says he has no such thing. Roman asks him again. Heyman tells him that he did not know about Brock Lesnar coming to SummerSlam. Brock made up this story to create a wedge between them since he fears Roman. Roman asks if Brock will be at Extreme Rules. Heyman says he is under the impression that he will not be. Roman tells him that he pays him to find out before hand and not just be under the impression.

Rick Boogs vs Robert Roode

Rick Boogs plays Shinsuke Nakamura’s theme as he comes out. We go to a break.

Ziggler runs a distraction as the bell rings and Roode hits big right hands. Roode hits a big chop, double boots in the corner and a neckbreaker. Roode goes for the Glorious DDT but Boogs counters with a Samoan drop. A bit of back and forth before Boogs hits his finisher for the win.

Winner – Rick Boogs

Nakamura & Boogs start to celebrate near the announce table. Commander Azeez attacks them and Apollo Crews join him to beat them up. Azeez drops Nakamura on the announce table. Crews that the mic and demands the rematch for his title.

Kevin Owens vs Happy Corbin

Owens says he is not happy but he is mad and furious because Corbin came on his show and invited Logan Paul and took a cheap shot at him. He will use that anger to beat up Corbin. We can forget about Happy Corbin after tonight as we will have Happy Kevin. KO makes his entrance.

Corbin attacks him from behind at the ramp. Corbin sends him into the barricade and apron. KO tries to fight back with punches before Corbin hits him with a chokeslam on the apron. Corbin picks up his hat and goes back. The match never starts.

Paul Heyman is walking backstage when Kayla Braxton jump on him. Kayla says she has heard Brock will be at Extreme Rules. Heyman mocks her and turns to walk away but runs into Big E. Heyman praises Big E as being deserving but also for “realizing” that he’d never beat Roman and instead going after a champion he knew would be vulnerable.

Big E says we will know when he faces Paul’s boy at Survivor Series, whether that’s Roman or Brock, or maybe Finn will ruin his plans. The Usos attack Big with a superkick and beat him down into the production cases. Roman walks by the incident.

Seth is Not Remorseful!

Seth Rollins comes out to the ring. He talks about how he heard a pop when he hit the stomp on Edge last week. He felt like stepping on a cockroach by accident. We get the replay from their match last week. After the video, Seth asks the crowd what happens next? He asks for an answer and says it’s one of the greatest wins of his career and he couldn’t enjoy it because everybody was staring at him and calling him a monster on social media.

Seth says that even WWE said what he did was unconscionable and asked if he went too far. He just did what he has always done in his career. He add that and it was Edge who went too far. He blames Edge for dumping black goo on him. It’s been eating at his brain the past week and he can’t live with feeling sorry for someone like Edge for his own sanctity. He asks Edge to come back for one more match or he will get to his home to beat him down.

Becky is backstage and is asked whether Bianca’s momentum work in her favor at Extreme Rules. She replies momentum is good until it meets an immovable object. Bianca Belair had a lot of momentum before she ran into Lynch, but tonight’s her night. Becky says she has never been to a homecoming but she’ll have to check it out.

Zelina Vega & Carmella vs Liv Morgan & Toni Storm

Carmella decks Liv to start. Carmella ducks a charge from Toni and tags in Vega. Vega kicks at Storm but Storm fires back with shots of her own. Carmella runs another distraction and Vega hits a pump kick. Toni counters with a suplex and tags in Liv.

Carmella also tag in. Morgan counters in the corner and sends Carmella into the turnbuckle. Carmella starts screaming “My Nose” as she rolls to the floor. Vega comes to check on her. Carmella keeps screaming as the referee counts down to 10.

Winners – Liv Morgan & Toni Storm

After the match, Liv challenges Carmella for a match at Extreme Rules and threatens that she will leave her as ugly on the outside as she is inside.

Street Profits cut a promo backstage and hype the show. They are really hungry for is that championship gold. They add that the Usos are clearly scared and about to lose their titles.

Back from the break, Carmella and Zelina Vega are in the trainer’s room. WWE Officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are also there. Carmella accepts the challenge from Liv Morgan’s challenge. Vega says Liv will have to get through her first.

Finn Balor explains the origin of the Demon. He says he was born to a family of railroad workers and he wasn’t supposed to be here like Roman who comes from a family of wrestlers. He has fought and the Demon is a manifestation of anyone who has ever doubted or disrespected him. He doesn’t summon the Demon, but the Demon summons him. After some CGI, Finn turns into Demon.

Naomi confronts Sonya Deville and asks when is she getting her match. Sonya tells her that there is no time on the show tonight. Naomi threatens her that she will get her match one way or the another.

Dominik Mysterio vs Sami Zayn

Dominik Mysterio comes out for his match. Rey Mysterio follows him and Dominik is not happy.

Sami tries to argue with Rey Mysterio. Dominik comes out to the floor and gets trapped in Sami’s tactics. Sami stomps on Dominik near the ropes. He hits a big clothesline. Dominik hits headscissors after he counters a powerbomb from Sami. He drops Sami on the ropes before taking him out with a springboard crossbody on the floor.

Dominik hits some elbows before another headscissor takedown for a two-count. Dominik hits a tornado DDT next. An enziguiri comes next before Dominik hits 619. Sami gets his knees up on the splash and rolls up Dominik for the win.

Winner – Sami Zayn

Bianca Belair’s Homecoming

Kane, former WWE Superstar and Mayor of Knoxville County, comes out for the homecoming celebration of Bianca Belair. After the break, Kane gets the pyro firing before he introduces Bianca Belair. Bianca comes out to a pop from the crowd. “EST” chants fill the arena and Bianca gets emotional.

Kane asks her how it feels to be in Knoxville. Bianca says there is not place like home. Knoxville made her into EST. It was her dad that taught her to end a fight if you don’t start one. So, she will defeat Becky at Extreme Rules and get the title back. Bianca wants to celebrate Knoxville now and gets the crowd to sing Rocky Top song.

Becky’s music hits and she comes out. Bianca tells her that she doesn’t go here. The crowd also chants “you don’t go here.” Becky says she wants to give some respect to Bianca. Becky offers a handshake. Bianca shakes hands with her and does not let it go. Bianca tries to hit KOD but Becky counters to hit the Manhandle slam on her. The show goes off the air with Becky standing tall.
