WWE RAW episode of May 6, 2024, marked the start of King & Queen of the Ring 2024 tournaments. Some big matches were part of the tournament as Gunther faced Sheamus, and Ilja Dragunov faced Ricochet. Jey Uso faced Finn Balor.

Lyra Valkyrie took on Asuka while Iyo Sky faced Natalya. Tune in below for the results from WWE RAW May 6, 2024 episode with complete updates and highlights.

RESULTS

The show opened with a recap of Backlash which highlighted show Judgment Day had problems with World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest not being happy with Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on attacking Jey Uso after their match.

The commentary team announced that 3 first round matches of both King & Queen of the Ring tournaments would take place tonight. 1 match from both tournaments would take place at a live event later this week.

Judgment Day came out to the ring. Damian Priest apologized to Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for his behaviour after the match since they were just helping him retain the title. The group hugged in the ring, also featured Dominik Mysterio with his arm in a sling. Balor then started boasting how he got a bye in the first round of King of the Ring due to Drew McIntyre being medically disqualified. RAW Manager Adam Pearce came out and said Balor misunderstood as he did not get a bye. He would face a different opponent which is Jey Uso.

Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor in the first round match of King of the Ring 2024. Jey hit a spear but Balor kicked out of the pinfall. Drew McIntyre came out to the ring side and stared him down. Balor tried to take the advantage with a roll-up, but only got a two-count. Jey then hit another spear to get the pinfall.

After the match, Drew got into the ring but Jey left immediately after the match.

Back from the break, Drew was with RAW Manager Adam Pearce, complaining to him about being replaced in the tournament by Jey Uso of all people. Pearce replied that it was Drew himself who broadcast about his injury and medical pulled him. Drew left the arena in his car. As soon as he pulled out, CM Punk pulled into the arena in his car. Pearce told Punk that he just missed Drew. Punk told him to get his music played.

The camera followed Punk as he made his entrance all the way from backstage to the ring. Punk told everyone to tweet at Drew to inform him about Punk being in the arena. He cut a promo against him in the meanwhile, calling him a tool and more things. Punk ended the promo teasing a clash at Clash at the Castle.

Backstage, Braun Strowman met Ricochet to wish him luck in KOTR and show everyone that he is the King. On being asked about why he interrupted Judgment Day, Strowman answer that he would always stand against bullies.

Iyo Sky defeated Natalya in the first-round match of Queen of the Ring 2024. Sky had put a crossface which Natalya had to work hard to break. When Sky went for it once again, Natalya overpowered him to hit a powerbomb. Iyo quickly hit back with a dropkick, a hip attack and Over the Moonsault to get the pinfall.

After the match, Dakota Kai announced that she would replace Asuka in the Queen of the Ring tournament against Lyra Valkyrie. She also said the Kabuki Warriors would go after Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill for women’s tag titles.

We got a video package introducing Ilja Dragunov.

Ilja Dragunov defeated Ricochet in the first round match of King of the Ring 2024 tournament. A great match between the two men which lasted over two ad breaks. Dragunov hit an H-bomb and went for Torpedo Moscow, but Ricochet countered it with the Recoil. Dragunov then countered him on the top rope to hit a superplex before hitting another H-bomb to get the pinfall.

We cut to backstage for an interview with Sheamus who talked about coming back to the ring after multiple medical procedures. He claimed that he would finish Gunther tonight.

Zoey Stark defeated Ivy Nile in the Queen of the Ring 2024 tournament. Stark slipped out of a superplex on the top rope and slammed Ivy to the mat before hitting Z-360 to get the pinfall.

Backstage, R-Truth was telling Adam Pearce about his plan for his next tag title defense against a team from “independent promotion” NCAA. He brought in Uconn Huskies Head Coach Dan Hurley. The Miz tried to make his understand but fails. Miz told Pearce that he would come to Pearce later with a plan.

Bron Breakker was waiting for Pearce asking him why he was not part of the King of the Ring tournament. Pearce told him to take it to his office to discuss it with him.

Backstage, Judgment Day’s Damian Priest, JD McDonagh and Finn Balor were talking about Balor losing in King of the Ring. They said Balor was not 100% after being attacked by Braun Strowman. Priest told McDonagh that he would take care of Strowman. Dominik Mysterio brought in Carlito. Priest was quick to tell Carlito that he was not welcome. Dominik told Carlito that Priest would come around after a while.

Chad Gable defeated Bronson Reed in a singles match via disqualification. Sami Zayn attacked Gable just a couple of minutes into the match to cause DQ.

After the match, all three men continued to attack each other. Reed stood tall at the last once again. As he was heading back, Adam Pearce was on the stage. Reed warned him that he did not have any control. He also said he wanted Intercontinental Championship, and Pearce knew what he needed to do.

Gunther cut a promo backstage to hype the main event tonight against Sheamus.

Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch came out to the ring for an interview. Becky talked about the current scene of the women’s division, name dropping Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Kiana James, Zelina Vega and Lyra Valkyrie. Liv Morgan came out and took offense about getting overlooked by Becky despite being a former World Champion, tag team champion, and injuring Rhea Ripley. Becky said Liv would get her chance in three weeks at King & Queen of the Ring. Becky also added that Liv never beat her. Liv said that might be the last thing she needed to do to get the recognition. Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane came out and surrounded the duo. Liv left the ring, leaving Becky alone to deal with the group. Lyra Valkyrie ran out to help Becky to clear the ring.

Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn was interviewed backstage where he said that this thing should have ended for him three weeks ago in Montreal itself, but now he had a personal problem in Chad Gable and a professional problem in Bronson Reed. He announced a triple threat match between them three at King & Queen of the Ring.

Lyra Valkyrie defeated Dakota Kai in the first round match of Queen of the Ring 2024.

Kofi Kingston told us from backstage that Xavier Woods could not compete in King of the Ring due to attack from Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser last week. He vowed to do the same to Gunther next week, but first he need to respectfully put down Rey Mysterio in their match at a WWE Live event later this week.

Gunther defeated Sheamus in the first round match of King of the Ring 2024 tournament. Ludwig Kaiser attacked Sheamus’ knee during the match by trapping his leg in the ropes and hitting a dropkick. The referee sent him to the back. Sheamus had several close calls as Gunther kicked out of the near falls. In the end, Gunther put on a single leg Boston Crab to force a submission out of Sheamus.
