WWE RAW episode of January 29, 2024, was live from Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL, which was earlier the venue for WWE Thunderdome during Pandemic Era as we started Road to WrestleMania 40.

We expected to hear from Royal Rumble Winner Cody Rhodes as he was about to announce his WrestleMania opponent. Two title matches were also announced. Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest defended Tag Team titles against DIY’s Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Gunther defended Intercontinental Championship against Kofi Kingston. “Main Event” Jey Uso faced Bronson Reed in a singles match. We might also get to know what is next for Jade Cargill. More fallout from Royal Rumble was also expected. Tune in below for the results from WWE RAW January 29, 2024.

RESULTS


The show opened with a recap of Royal Rumble 2024.

Pat McAfee came out to join the commentary team. Michael Cole announced that McAfee has joined him to be on commentary on RAW going forward.

Punk Updates, McIntyre Interrupts

CM Punk came out with a sling around his left arm. Punk said that he came so close at Royal Rumble, but he would like to congratulate Cody Rhodes. He then revealed that he torn his left tricep at Rumble. He did not want anyone to feel sorry for him though. He gave an example of his friend who is suffering from cancer, and his injury is just a bump in the road. Punk promised to keep entertaining until the wheels fall off, and for WrestleMania, there is always next year.

Drew McIntyre came out to interrupt Punk. McIntyre said he prayed for this injury and it happened. McIntyre argued that Seth Rollins established the title and took it to next level until he broke his body, and he could not let Punk be the next champion. After McIntyre keep insulting him, Punk got into his face and told him that he would main event WrestleMania in future, but after he would return from injury, he would take on McIntyre first.

Punk punched McIntyre to start a fight. McIntyre dropped him with a headbutt and then stomped on his arm. Sami Zayn ran out to make the save.

Judgment Day(Finn Balor & Damian Priest)(c) vs DIY(Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) – Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

The whole Judgment Day group was backstage. Rhea Ripley said they should send a message to locker room tonight and should be distracted at all. Priest replied that he was not distracted anymore and would show what Judgment Day is. DIY cut a promo while walking out for their match.

The match started with DIY taking early flurry of attack. Priest took control over Ciampa on the floor and Judgment Day cut off the ring in half for a while. After Ciampa finally tagged in Gargano. DIY had an extended passage with control. Balor was hit with DIY finisher but Priest put his leg on the ropes to break the pin. Gargano then put Balor in Garaga-No escape and Ciampa put him Priest in Sicilian Stretch before Priest overpowered to slam Ciampa on Balor. Judgment Day worked their way back into the ring. Priest hit a flatliner on Gargano on the announce table. He hit Ciampa with Razor’s Edge before Balor hit Coupe De Grace to get the pinfall. Judgment Day defeated DIY to retain Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh came out to celebrate with the champs. Priest called out R-Truth to come out so that they could apologize to him. Priest told R-Truth that Judgment Day is a family and he was not happy at what happened at Royal Rumble. R-Truth intervened to say that he could not sleep after what happened at Royal Rumble, and so, he located Priest’s cash and crypto and liqiudated all his assets. Priest said while Judgment Day is a family, R-Truth is not part of that. He told Dominik to do something that he did not want to do. JD McDonagh attacked R-Truth from behind before the rest of Judgment Day joined in. The Miz came out to help R-Truth, but he was also beat up.


We saw CM Punk backstage with several officials.

Chelsea Green & Piper Niven vs Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark

Piper Niven started strong against Zoey. Baszler took a cheap shot from outside to take over control and worked on Piper’s arm. Green got some offense going after getting a hot tag. Zoey stopped her momentum by hitting Z-360 to get the pinfall. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark defeated Chelsea Green & Piper Niven in a tag team match.


We got a video package for Elimination Chamber with Rhea Ripley in focus.

We got a video package for WrestleMania 40.

Cody Rhodes Interrupted by Seth Rollins

Cody Rhodes made his grand entrance. He got Samantha to announce him once again as the 2023 & 2024 men’s Royal Rumble winner. He was about to make WrestleMania 40 official when Seth Rollins’ music hit and he made his way out. Rollins said Cody deserved it all, but he would be the making a mistake if he would go on to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

Rollins argued that he had made World Heavyweight Championship the biggest title in the company. He asked which title Cody wanted – the title for the parttimers and people who politic their way to the top, or the title for workhorses and blue collar people. Rollins wondered which title Dusty Rhodes would have wanted, and asked Cody to think and talk about what was in his heart and what kind of man Cody wanted to be. Cody replied that he had tremendous respect for Seth, and therefore, he would think about it.


Kofi Kingston cut a promo talking about New Day and said they win titles.


We got a recap of Bron Breakker’s performance in men’s Royal Rumble match.

Jey Uso vs Bronson Reed

Bronson Reed took advantage of his size to start the match. Jey hit a couple of suicide dives to take us to the break. Back and forth action continued before Reed missed the Tsunami. Jey then hit a spear quickly to get the pinfall. Jey Uso defeated Bronson Reed.


We saw Andrade signing his contract to join WWE RAW with RAW GM Adam Pearce. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis came in. He teased a discussion with Bron Breakker to join SmackDown.


Intercontinental Champion Gunther cut a promo against Kofi Kingston saying this would be the biggest match of Kofi’s career, but he would just forget about Kofi after tonight.


Becky Lynch said backstage that it’s not in her nature to give up. So, she would train a little better, fight dirtier, and think of another way to get to WrestleMania.

Gunther(c) vs Kofi Kingston – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Gunther cut off Kofi quickly with a backbreaker. He took Kofi into the first break with a Boston Crab locked in. Gunther kept beating up Kofi for a while before Kofi made inroads. Gunther countered a jump off the top rope to hit another backbreaker. Gunther put him in Boston Crab once again to take us to the break again.

After the second break, Kofi countered a powerbomb with a hurricanrana to send Gunther to the floor and hit back-to-back suicide dives before Trouble in Paradise on the floor. Gunther rolled out of the ring to avoid a pin. Kofi hit an elbow drop on the steel steps before beating the countdown. Gunther kicked out of the pinfall after SOS in the ring. Gunther finished off the match with a powerbomb to get the pinfall. Gunther defeated Kofi Kingston to retain Intercontinental Championship.

After the match, Xavier Woods came out to check on Kofi. Imperium’s Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser attacked Woods and Kofi to beat them up for a while.


Sami Zayn cut a promo against Drew McIntyre saying Drew has not only targeted him, but also targeted the likes of CM Punk and Jey Uso also.

The Kabuki Warriors(Asuka & Kairi Sane) vs Natalya & Tegan Nox

Natalya and Nox had the upperhand for the first part of the match. The Kabuki Warriors took over control during the break against Nox. Nox hit an enzuigiri before countering ankle lock with an uppercut to tag in Natalya. Natalya hit snap suplexes before Sane stopped a sharpshooter. Some miscommunication between Natalya and Nox led to Sane taking advantage to drop Nox on the floor. Asuka dropped Natalya before Sane hit Insane elbow on her to get the pinfall. The Kabuki Warriors defeated Natalya & Tegan Nox in a tag team match.

After the match, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter said backstage that they would get their tag team title rematch against The Kabuki Warriors next week.

Bayley The Royal Rumble Winner

Bayley walked out to the ring to join The Kabuki Warriors, WWE Women’s Champion Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai. After the break, Bayley took the mic and bragged about her win and how she told everyone that Damage CTRL would take over. Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley came out and started talking on the stage, telling Bayley that she would remain the champion after WrestleMania also.

Nia Jax attacked Rhea from behind on the ramp. She took Rhea to the ring and hit her with multiple leg drops. Damage CTRL were watching Nia in fear from one corner. Everyone except Bayley left the ring as Nia approached them. Nia told Bayley that she can choose Iyo Sky or anyone else, but Rhea was not making it WrestleMania. In fear, Bayley replied that she was about to announce that he would reveal her choice for WrestleMania on SmackDown this week. Iyo Sky was concerned hearing this.

Sami Zayn vs Drew McIntyre

Sami started strong but McIntyre caught his crossbody and threw him on the announce table. Drew got distracted talking to Pat McAfee and Sami took advantage by catching him with a suicide dive to take us a break.

Drew kept control after the break until Sami came back with tornado DDT. Drew cut him off quickly and hit a sitout powerbomb. Drew missed a corner tackle and crashed into the turnbuckle. Sami was unable to hit a suplex and Drew hit him with a headbutt. Sami hit a superplex next. Sami also countered a Claymore with spin out powerbomb. Sami set up Drew in the corner for Helluva kick. Drew tried to duck Helluva kick but ended up hitting a low blow inadvertantly. Drew then finished the match with Claymore kick to get the pinfall. Drew McIntyre defeated Sami Zayn in the main event.
