WWE Day 1 2022 Results

Welcome to the live blog for WWE Day 1 2022 PPV which airs on January 1, 2022, from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA. This will be the first major wrestling PPV event and WWE’s first New Year’s PPV after a long time.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were supposed to be the main event match for Universal Championship. But Roman is tested positive for COVID-19 and Lesnar is now added to the WWE Championship match. The match already had Big E, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins.

Becky Lynch will defend RAW Women’s Championship against Liv Morgan. Three more title matches are announced – Nakamura vs Sami Zayn for Intercontinental Championship, RK-Bro defending RAW Tag Team titles against The Street Profits and The Usos will defend SmackDown Tag Team titles against New Day. Drew McIntyre vs Madcapp Moss and Edge vs Miz singles match will complete the main card.

Ridge Holland and Sheamus will be in tag team action on the pre-show against Cesaro and Ricochet. Although, it is expected several matches will change due to the COVID-19 situation and WWE is waiting until the last minute to confirm changes.

  • Sheamus & Ridge Holland defeated Ricochet & Cesaro in a tag team match via pinfall(on pre-show).
  • The Usos(Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso)(c) defeated New Day(Kofi Kingston & King Xavier Woods) via pinfall to retain WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
  • Drew McIntyre defeated Madcapp Moss in a singles match via pinfall.
  • RK-Bro(Randy Orton & Riddle)(c) defeated The Street Profits(Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) via pinfall to retain WWE RAW Tag Team Championship.
  • Edge defeated The Miz in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Becky Lynch(c) defeated Liv Morgan via pinfall to retain WWE RAW Women’s Championship.
  • Brock Lesnar defeated Big E(c), Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley in the fatal 5-Way match to win WWE Championship.

Update: Roman Reigns has tested positive for COVID-19. So, his match against Brock Lesnar is nixed and Lesnar is now added to the WWE Championship match.

Ricochet & Cesaro vs Sheamus & Ridge Holland

Cesaro and Sheamus start. But before they could engage, Sheamus tags in Ridge Holland. Holland starts with arm wrench. Cesaro counters it. He hits a backbreaker and tags in Ricochet. Ricochet gets help from Cesaro for a standing shooting star press. He botches it and Holland is bloodied. Sheamus is brought in and he goes back and forth with Ricochet.

Sheamus hits back to back backbreaker on Ricochet as he is looking to fill time. As per commentary, Holland has a broken nose and is taken to the back. Sheamus is on his own but remains in control. Sheamus hits his signature hammerblows to the chest on Ricochet. Ricochet hits a tornado DDT. Cesaro is tagged in. He hits uppercuts in the corner. Sheamus is dropped to the floor with a back body drop. Cesaro hits uppercut on the barricade. He hits a crossbody from the top for a near fall.

Cesaro puts on the swing on Sheamus now and swings him 15 times. Cesaro puts on the sharpshooter and Sheamus quickly reached the ropes. Sheamus hits a back body drop on Cesaro. Ricochet comes in and headscissors him to the floor. Sheamus hits White Noise on Ricochet on the floor. Cesaro catches him with an uppercut as he returns to the ring. Cesaro unloads on Sheamus with body shots. He misses a shoulder tackle in the corner and Sheamus hits a Brogue kick for the pin and the win.

The Usos(Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso)(c) vs New Day(Kofi Kingston & King Xavier Woods) – WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

The tag title match is kicking off first match on the main card. Woods is in his hometown. He starts with Jimmy and goes for submission early. He hits an arm drag and puts Jimmy in another submission. Kofi comes in for some double team. Woods hits a senton and Kofi hits a standing splash. Kofi sweeps his leg as Jimmy tries to make a comeback.

Kofi goes to the top but Jey distracts him. Jimmy nails Kofi with an enziguiri. Jey runs over Kofi on the floor. Jey tags in and keeps Kofi under control. Jimmy takes a cheap shot on Kofi when the referee was dealing with Jey. Jey hits a body slam and then runs in with hips to face in the corner. Kofi explodes out of the corner with a flying knee. Jey tags out and Jimmy superkicks Woods, which stops Kofi from tagging out.

Jey hits a thrust kick to Kofi’s midsection. He goes for a superplex but Kofi fights back and hits a tornado DDT. Woods comes back to the apron as gets the hot tag. Woods hits leg lariarts, a big boot to the face, a senton on Jimmy. Jey comes back but gets sent with dropkick to the back of the head. Woods hits a tornado DDT and driver on Jimmy for a near fall. Jimmy goes to the floor. Jey saves him from a suicide dive from Woods. Jimmy slams Woods to the announce table.

Back to the ring, Jimmy hits a twisting neckbreaker for a near fall. The Usos hits pop-up Samoan drop for another near fall. The Usos keep control until Woods explodes with a knee from the ropes. Kofi tags in and hits a crossbody from the top for a near fall. Kofi hits a flying clothesline and a boom drop. He gets ready for the Trouble in Paradise but Jey cuts off with a superkick. Jimmy hits him with Usos Splash but Kofi kicks out of the pin.

Jimmy takes out Kofi’s knee and puts on half Boston Crab. Kofi reaches the ropes to break it. Jey tags in as the Usos were looking for a double team but Woods sweeps Jimmy out on the floor. Kofi hits Jey with SOS for a near fall. Woods tags in and New Day hit double gamengiri. New Day hit backbreaker and missile dropkick combo for another near fall on Jey. New Day go for up-up down-down. Jey counters and brings in Jey for quick double team moves on Kofi. Woods is sent to the floor.

Double Usos Splash connects but Woods breaks the pin. Both teams face-off in the middle of the ring before starting to unload. Woods and Jimmy go to the floor. Kofi and Jey fight in the ring. Jey brings in Jimmy and they hit 3D finisher for the pin on Kofi and retain the titles.

Winner – The Usos(retains SmackDown Tag Team titles)

We see a vignette for WWE Champion Big E where he says he is trying to be something new. We get the recap of Big E winning Money in the Bank and then winning WWE Championship. Big E is with Kevin Patrick and asked about Lesnar getting added to the match. Big E says it was not on New Year card, but he will knockdown every single one of them. He will walk on fire but he will walk away as still the WWE Champion.

Kayla Braxton is with Migos backstage. Migos say this show is big and they are excited to be here. They are looking to hit the ropes and hit the turnbuckles.

Madcapp Moss(w/ Happy Corbin) vs Drew McIntyre

Corbin asks for some jokes from Moss as they get into the ring. Moss says Atlanta is the biggest city in Georgia, but he did not know that it was based on the weight of the people here. Some GOAT and goat humor from Moss as he takes shot on Drew McIntyre. Drew makes his entrance for the match after this.

The bell rings and they lock up. Drew pushes Moss to the corner for a stalemate. Moss hits an elbow to the face and puts on a headlock. Drew drops him with a shoulder tackle. Moss asks for a show of strength but kicks at Drew’s midsection. Drew tosses him to the corner and unloads. He rips open Moss’ shirt and hits a big chop. He drops Moss with a clothesline before hitting a suplex and another chop. Moss kicks at him and get clotheslined to the floor.

Drew hits a belly to belly suplex on the floor. Moss kicks at Drew as he was getting back to the ring. He drives Drew’s shoulder into the ring post. He hits a running tackle next. Moss whips Drew from corner to corner before another running tackle. A suplex from Moss gets him one-count only. Moss runs from rope to rope to gain speed before hitting shoulder tackle. Moss puts on a sleeper hold.

Drew gets to his feet and nobody is home as Moss charges to the corner with a shoulder tackle. Drew hits a suplex next. He drops Moss with a couple of clotheslines, a suplex and a neckbreaker. Moss stops futureshock DDT but Drew manages to hit a pop-up spinebuster. Drew goes for a running crossbody when Moss catches him, slams him to the corner and then hits a fallaway slam to get a two-count.

Drew hits futureshock DDT for a two-count. Drew hits big chops as he takes Moss to the top. Moss fights back to put Drew in a tree of bow. Drew gets his wind back and throws him from the top. Drew goes for the Claymore. Moss cuts it off with a big boot but Drew hits Claymore quickly and gets the pin.

Winner – Drew McIntyre

Kevin Owens is getting interviewed backstage and asked about Lesnar getting added to the title match. KO says it is a tragedy and a travesty. It was worse that he and Rollins had to deal with Big E and Lashley, it’s even worse to have Lesnar in that match. It is not about Seth Rollins and him only, but Lesnar did wrong with his best friend and soulmate Sami Zayn also. He has a new plan with Seth and has to talk with him now.

A vignette for Seth Rollins, summing up his journey from NXT to WWE main roster and how he has become the Monday Night Messaih.

RK-Bro(Randy Orton & Riddle)(c) vs The Street Profits(Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) – WWE RAW Tag Team Championship

Migos accompany RK-Bro in their entrance. They pose all together in the ring with Orton’s pose. Migos sit beside the commentary to watch the match. Dawkins and Riddle start the match. They lock up and Riddle puts on the headlock. Dawkins hits a shouler tackle and teases Migos. Ford comes in and hits a dropkick. Riddle breaks free as Dawkins tags in again.

Randy comes in and Dawkins puts on the side headlock. Dawkins rocks him with a flying elbow and poses like him to tease Randy. Randy goes for an early RKO and teases Dawkins. Ford asks and gets tagged in. Ford hits a chop on Orton in the corner. Orton flick in his eyes and follows with a dropkick. Orton brings in Riddle for an assisted moonsault.

Ford tags in Dawkins and Riddle beats him up in the corner. Dawkins hits back with the Silencer. Ford hits a springboard senton on Riddle. Ford hits a penalty kick for a two-count. Dawkins rocks Riddle with a big punch. The ring is cut in half with Street Profits in complete control. Dawkins hits a swinging elbow in the corner. Riddle hits an overhead kick and tags in Orton.

Orton hits an uppercut, dropkick and a bodyslam on Ford. Dawkins comes in and gets hit with a body slam. Orton hits double draping DDT on both opponents. Orton gets ready for RKO on Ford. Ford counters with a roll-up and then rocks Orton with a knee.

Dawkins and Riddle fight each other. Riddle sends him over the ropes and then hits a penalty kick from the apron. Ford cuts off Riddle’s springboard and sends him to the floor. Orton is also sent to the floor. Ford hits a suicide dive over the top turnbuckle on both opponents.

Orton and Ford are back to the ring. Ford goes to the top but is slow after that suicide dive. Orton meets him on the top. Ford drops Orton to the mat but has to roll through the splash. Riddle comes in and pops up Ford to send him into an RKO from Orton for the pin.

Winner – RK-Bro(retains RAW Tag Team Titles)

After the match, Migos get into the ring to celebrate with RK-Bro. The Street Profits also come in after recovering and show respect to RK-Bro and celebrate with Migos.

Drew McIntyre is back and gets interviewed. He says Madcapp is a tough SOB. He was about to comment on Lesnar when Corbin and Moss attack him. Drew fights back but Corbin hits him with steel chair. Corbin hits Drew with a crutch before the crew takes things under control.

Kayla Braxton is with Brock Lesnar to talk about the change in title match. Lesnar mimicks Paul Heyman in introducing himself. Lesnar says he does whatever he wants to do. He is a free agent and can have WWE title match. He will walk out of tonight as the WWE Heavyweight Champion on the World.

Edge vs The Miz

They lock up and Edge puts on a headlock. Edge hits a shoulder tackle before Miz hits an armdrag. Miz poses in the corner amid the boos from the crowd. Edge regroups before they lock in again. Edge counters the armdrags for some of his own. Edge goes for the crossface early but Miz is also quick to realize that. Miz kicks at the midsection and unloads with punches. Nobody is home when he goes for a dropkick.

They get to the floor and Maryse runs a distraction. Miz slams Edge into the ring post and barricade. Back to the ring, Miz hits a double axe handle from the top rope. Miz works on Edge’s left leg. He puts some pressure on it. Edge hits back with some punches. Miz whips him to the corner but nobody is home on the corner dropkick. Edge hits an inverted DDT from the second turnbuckle.

Edge slams him to the mat after Miz runs the ropes. Back and forth counters before Miz hits a DDT for a two-count. Miz hits “It kicks.” Edge rolls him for one count and then goes for the crossface. Miz sends him to the floor. Edge sweeps his leg on the apron. Edge hits a DDT on the floor before taking Miz back to the ring.

They are back to the floor. Miz sends Edge into the ring post. He slams Edge into the announce table. Miz goes for the Skull Crushing Finale on the announce table but Edge counters to slam him face first into the table. Edge hits a crossbody from the top as they return to the ring.

Miz looks for the figure four but Edge kicks him away. Edge crashes into the corner as he goes for a tackle. Miz puts on the figure four. Miz slaps on his face and Edge hulks up. Edge reverses figure four and Miz had to let it go.

Miz catapults him into the turnbuckle and tries to use the ropes for the pin. The referee stops the count on seeing that. Edge puts on the crossface in the middle of the ring. Miz has nowhere to go. Maryse pulls his leg to the ropes to break the move. Both men hits big boot at each other at the same time and they are both down. They trade shots as they get up. Miz gets the upper hand and runs over Edge with a running boot. Miz goes to the top. Edge brings him down.

Edge goes for the spear but Miz gets away to send Edge crashing into turnbuckle. Maryse punches Edge with something in her hand. Miz hits skull crushing finale but Edge kicks out of the pin. Maryse could not believe it and gets on the apron. Beth Pheonix comes out to the stage and scares Maryse out. Miz has his attention on Beth as Maryse runs to the stage. Edge hits the spear to get the pin.

Winner – Edge

After the match, Beth Pheonix gets in the ring to celebrate with Edge. Maryse watches from the stage.

Kevin Patrick is backstage with Bobby Lashley and MVP to talk about Lesnar in the main event. MVP says Lesnar is one time special athlete but Lashley is not trembling in fear like other competitors, because he is also one time special athlete. Lashley welcomes addition of Lesnar to the match. Lashley says at New Year, we will have a new WWE Champion.

Becky Lynch(c) vs Liv Morgan – WWE RAW Women’s Championship Match

Lock up to start the match. Becky pushes Liv to the ropes and slaps her. Liv hits double knees to the face. Becky rolls to the floor and Liv slams her face to the announce table. Liv throws her back to the ring but she gets out from the other side. Liv goes for a suicide dive but Becky cuts her off on the apron. Becky goes for the Manhandle Slam, only for Liv to counter it with an arm drag. Liv with more quick moves. She goes for a backslide for a two-count.

Liv puts on her submission move and Becky gets her feet to the ropes. The crowd is right behind Liv. Becky fights back from the apron with her kicks. Becky goes to the top and Liv throws her down to the mat. Becky catches her dive and swings her into the turnbuckle. Becky catapults her into the ropes for a two-count.

Becky unloads wth uppercuts and a spinning back kick. Becky hits a leg drop with Liv on the middle rope to get a two-count. Becky puts on a shoulder lock. Liv gets out of it but Becky hits her with a suplex. Becky tells Liv to stay down. She plays with the crowd.

Becky throws her into the corner and hits another spinning back kick. Liv hits a backbreaker but could not cover. Liv gets a two-count with a roll-up. Some back and forth before Liv goes for some ground and pound. A missile dropkick stuns Becky.

Becky counters with a suplex and puts on the armbar. Liv counters it into a pin attempt. Liv slams her face into the mat for a near fall. Liv gets to the top. Becky rocks her with a forearm. She joins Liv on the top. Liv slips out and hits Becky with a powerbomb. Becky somehow kicks out of the pin. Becky puts on the armbar. Liv gets her leg to the rope. They trade two-count with inside cradles. Becky drops Liv face first for another two-count.

Becky misses a leg drop. Liv hits a missile dropkick but Becky slips out to the floor before Liv could cover for the pin. Liv hits a suicide dive. She brings back Becky to the ring but Becky slips out again. Becky slams Liv’s face into the announce table a few times and gets back to the ring to wait for a count out. Liv gets into the ring at 8. Becky throws Liv back to the floor. Liv counters to slam her into the steel steps. Liv traps Becky’s arm into the steel steps and stomps on it.

Back to the ring, Liv hits codebreaker on the arm and puts on scissored armbar crossface. Becky reverese it somehow. Becky hangs onto the rope as Liv tries to go for oblivion. Becky counters oblivion into the Manhandle Slam to get the pin.

Winner – Becky Lynch(retains RAW Women’s title)

Big E(c) vs Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens vs Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar- WWE Championship Match

Owens and Rollins attack Lesnar while Big E and Lashley fight on the other side. Lesnar starts to hit suplex on Owens and Rollins. Big E and Lashley fight on the floor. KO saves Rollins from F5. Big E comes in and rocks Lesnar with a clothesline. He clotheslines Lesnar to the floor. Lashley slams Big E’s face into the ring post. Lashley then spears Lesnar through the timekeeper’s barricade. Back in the ring, Lashley drops Owens and then drops Rollins.

Lashley goes for a suplex on Rollins but Owens kicks at him. A double superkick from Owens and Rollins on Lashley. Lesnar gets up but Rollins hits him with a crossbody and then Owens hits a splash on him on the floor. Rollins and Owens slam Lashley and then Lesnar with the steel step.

They set up the announce table and try to suplex Lashley into it. Lashley fights back only for Big E to come and slam him through the table with Urinage. KO & Rollins take out Big E. They hits double DDT on Lesnar on the steel step. Back to the ring, Big E drops Rollins but Owens manages to trip him. Owens goes for the senton from the top but Big E gets his knees up. Although, Rollins hits him with the splash quickly. Big E kicks out of the pin somehow.

Rollins hits big rolling elbows to Big E. He gets ready for the stomp but Lesnar comes in and hits with F5. Lesnar hits Big E with F5. KO goes for a stunner on him but Lesnar hits him with F5. Lashley hits a spear on Lesnar but he kicks out of a nearfall. Lashley puts on the Hurt Lock on Lesnar. Lesnar begins to fade but Big E comes in and hits him with Big Ending. Big E goes for Big Ending on Brock Lesnar. Lesnar counters and hits him with F5 and pins him to win the WWE title.

Winner – Brock Lesnar

  1. Anyone who is happy that a part time bum who don’t wrestle house shows and has like three more appearances in this year is champion again is what’s wrong with wwe. I don’t want to watch wwe anymore after 35 years! You can have your part time champion! I will stay strictly aew and impact from now on. Maybe watch smackdown but company is garbage!
