Welcome to the results and live updates blog for WWE Backlash 2025 PLE.

John Cena made first defense of his 17th World Title reign as he faced old foe Randy Orton over Undisputed WWE Championship. Jacob Fatu also defended WWE United States Championship in a fatal 4-way match with Drew McIntyre, LA Knight and Damian Priest as the challengers.

Dominik Mysterio faced Penta to defend WWE Intercontinental Championship. Becky Lynch challenged for Women’s Intercontinental title against Lyra Valkyrie. Gunther and Pat McAfee clashed in a singles match.

  • Jacob Fatu(c) defeated LA Knight, Drew McIntyre & Damian Priest in a Fatal 4-Way Match via pinfall to retain WWE United States Championship.
  • Lyra Valkyrie(c) defeated Becky Lynch in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
  • Dominik Mysterio(c) defeated Penta in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE Intercontinental Championship.
  • Gunther defeated Pat McAfee in a singles match via technical submission(referee’s stoppage).
  • John Cena(c) defeated Randy Orton in a singles match via pinfall to retain Undisputed WWE Championship.

We see the arrivals of Pat McAfee, Gunther, Lyra Valkyrie and Randy Orton before cutting to the special video package. Then, entrances start for the opening match.

Jacob Fatu(c) vs Drew McIntyre vs LA Knight vs Damian Priest – WWE United States Championship

Drew and Priest brawl to the outside while Knight goes after Jacob. Knight unleashes some punches but Jacob hits back and throws him to the corner. Jacob misses a corner splash and Knight hits him with a neckbreaker. Knight then drops Priest and Drew also when then come back. Priest goes for a chokeslam, but Priest gets out of it easily and slams him to the mat. Knight hits an elbow drop on Drew. Jacob comes in, but gets double-teamed by Knight and Priest. They send him into the corner and then to the floor. They turn onto each other immediately after this.

Drew hits Knight with a German suplex and Priest with a spinebuster. Drew then hits a neckbreaker on all three opponents one by one. Drew looks for a Claymore on Jacob, but Knight cuts him off. Jacob hits Knight with a superkick. Priest hits Jacob with a leaping kick and then hits a hurricanrana from the top rope. He hits a flatliner on Knight before running into Jacob on the floor. Priest goes for the Old School but he has to turn it into a crossbody on Drew. Priest hits back elbows in corner on Drew and Knight before clotheslining Drew to the floor. He hits a spinning heel kick to Knight.

Priest goes for a tackle on Jacob who counters it into a Samoan drop on the barricade. Jacob and Drew stare down each other from outside the ring. They slowly get into the ring and start to trade punches. Jacob hits a pop-up Samoan drop to end the streak before hitting a hip attack. Jacob gets to the top rope. Drew hits a low blow to trip him. Knight hangs Drew in a Tree of Woe and hits him with kicks. Jacob pushes Knight off the top rope. Drew gets up and hits an Avalanche German Suplex on Jacob who turns it into a senton on Knight. Jacob hits a neckbreaker on Drew and then hits a suicide dive on Priest on the floor.

Jacob then hits a Swanton bomb on Drew. Knight hits Jacob with BFT. Priest hits Knight with a Chokeslam. Drew hits Priest with Claymore who lands on top of Knight. Drew has to recover quickly to break the pin. All four men are down. Drew cuts off Jacob’s running tackle with a tackle of his own. Knight goes for the BFT on Drew, but Drew hits back with the futureshock DDT. Drew hits Knight with Claymore but Priest pulls out the referee out of the ring to stop the pin count. Drew gets to the floor to fight Priest and they both end up going over the barricade and into the timekeeper’s area.

Jacob goes for the moonsault on Knight in the ring who gets out of the way. Knight hits two back-to-back elbow drops from the top rope, but only gets a two-count. Drew and Priest brawl further into the crowd. Priest gets the upper hand in the exchange as they get up to a platform. Priest hits a chokeslam which takes both of them through a set of tables. Knight tackles Jacob into the ring apron. He sets up Jacob on the announce table looking for an elbow drop, but Solo Sikoa pulls him off the table even before Knight can take off.

Knight runs at Solo, but he gets attacked by Jeff Cobb. Cobb slams Knight into the ringpost before hitting a crossbody on him against the ringpost. As Cobb throws Knight back into the ring, Jacob also gets up. Jacob hits Knight with the hip attack and Moonsault from the top rope to get the pinfall.

After the match, Solo stares down Jacob with Cobb standing alongside him. Jacob slowly gets out of the ring and walks past Solo without saying anything.

Lyra Valkyrie(c) vs Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship

Becky pushes Lyra to the corner but the referee calls for a break. Becky takes Lyra down before hitting a running shoulder tackle. They run the ropes before Lyra gets an armdrag takedown into a crucifix pin to get a two-count. Becky hits an armdrag next. Some quick counters before Lyra puts Becky in a dilly dolly – swinging her in the air for a while. Lyra puts Becky in a surfboard to humiliate her further. She hits a Northern Lights Suplex into a bridge to get a two-count. Becky tries to hit back, but Lyra sends her to the floor and hits her with a dropkick through the ropes.

Lyra goes to the top rope. Becky trips her and quickly throws her to the mat. Becky unleashes quick punches. More quick punches as Becky gets her aggression out of Lyra. Becky hits a slap before a couple of chops. She misses a corner splash but immediately avoids Lyra in the corner. Becky hits a bexploder to get a two-count. She chokes Lyra on the ropes who has to roll to the floor. Becky hits a dive on her before throwing her into the barricade. Becky badmouth Lyra’s fiance who is in the front row. This ticks off Lyra who hits punches. But, as they get back into the ring, Becky turns it around with punches of her own.

Lyra ticks off once again but Becky hits more punches. Lyra blocks a suplex and hits a running suplex herself. Lyra ducks Becky before turning a handspring into a powerbomb, but Becky kicks out. Becky gets to the top. Lyra joins her up top and hits a superplex. Lyra goes for her finisher but Becky slips away. Lyra rolls her up but Becky also counters the roll-up. She tries to use the ropes to get the pinfall, but the referee catches her in the act and stops the count. Becky hits a dumbell drop to get a near fall. Lyra catches Becky as she goes for a springboard kick. Lyra hits a dive on the floor, gets back in to hit a kick to the face and then hits a leg drop.

Lyra goes for a moonsault but Becky gets her knees up. They trade punches now. Becky turns it into Disarmher. Lyra counters with an armbar. More quick counters with Lyra blocking the Manhandle Slam. Becky hits the Manhandle Slam in the second attempt, but Lyra kicks out of the pin. Becky is disheartened now and is in doubt. She goes to get a chair. The referee takes the chair away. But, Becky goes to rip off one of the turnbuckle pads. Lyra avoids getting slammed into the exposed turnbuckle. Lyra hits a German suplex, a spinning kick and a moonsault to get a near fall. Becky goes to send Lyra into the second turnbuckle when the referee realizes about the exposed turnbuckle.

Becky hits the Manhandle Slam again, but Lyra kicks out again. Becky tries to slam Lyra into the exposed turnbuckle, but the referee stops her. The referee goes to get the turnbuckle pad when Lyra hits Becky with the Knightwing. The referee gets a couple of seconds late in counting the pin which allows Becky to recover and kick out of the pin. Lyra goes for the Knightwing again, but Becky slips out and goes for Manhandle slam which also gets blocked again. Becky rakes hits a headbutt which hurts Lyra’s nose. Becky rolls up Lyra looking for the pin but Lyra turns it around and gets the pinfall.

Becky loses it and attacks Lyra after the match. She puts Lyra in a disarmher to hurt her more. Some officials gets into the ring and separate Becky, sending her back.

Dominik Mysterio(c) vs Penta – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Dominik hits a punch. Penta hits a dropkick. Penta hits a hurricanrana. Dominik hits a hurricanrana of his own. Penta counters with a kick to the head and dropkick to get a two-count. Dominik hits a back body drop to send him to the floor. Dominik hits a suicide dive and turns it into a DDT on the floor. Dominik breaks the referee’s countdown before getting to the floor again. Penta hits back at him but Dominik slams him into the barricade.

Back to the ring, Dominik hits a senton to get a two-count. He hits some jumping stomps near the ropes. Penta grabs the rope to break a pin count. Dominik puts on a choke. Penta gets to his feet and hits a kick to the face before a slingblade. Dominik rolls to the floor, but Penta hits him with a crossbody from the top of the ringpost. Penta takes a bit of time to throw Dominik back into the ring. Dominik blocks a splash and hits a suplex. He sets up for 619 after Penta blocks the Three Amigos. Penta ducks 619 and rolls up Dominik to get a two-count. Dominik hits a dropkick before hitting the Oblivion to get a near fall.

Penta uses his momentum in the corner to set him up on the top rope and hits an enzuigiri. Penta hits another enzuigiri on the apron before hitting a Mexican Destroyer on the apron.Carlito walks down the ramp. The referee goes to talk to him. Behind them, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh come through the crowd. JD holds Penta but Balor wastes some time in getting a steel chair. The referee catches them in the act and boots all three of Carlito, Balor and JD. Penta hits a Top Con Hilo which takes out Carlito and JD.

Balor tries to get into the ring, but the referee blocks him. Behind the referee, Penta goes to the top rope. El Grande Americano hits Penta with a loaded headbutt to drop him back to the floor. Dominik then hits a frog splash to get the pinfall.

Gunther vs Pat McAfee

The bell rings and they circle in the ring. Gunther pushes away McAfee easily. They circle the ring again before Gunther throws McAfee away. Gunther gets an armlock on before wrenching the arm. McAfee rolls around to break free. He avoids a chop from Gunther. They tie and McAfee puts on a headlock this time. Gunther tries to break but McAfee lands on the apron. Gunther mocks him and eats a big punch. McAfee slips when trying to come off the ropes and gets dropped easily. McAfee hits quick punches but Gunther no sells him and asks for more.

McAfee hits some chops before Gunther drops him with a chop easily. Gunther hits more chops and punches. McAfee is disoriented already. Gunther hits another big chop to drop him. Michael Cole, who is agitated on the commentary, tells Gunther to be done with it already. Gunther hits a tackle but McAfee avoids an elbow drop. McAfee hits him with a running kick to his back, but Gunther shows no effect. Gunther hits a big boot next, but McAfee kicks out. Cole starts to cheer McAfee now.

Gunther continues to tear down McAfee slow and methodically with more chops and boots. Cole tells him to be done with it already. Gunther puts on a choke. McAfee tries to fight it out. Gunther hits him with a German suplex. Gunther soaks the boos from the crowd before hitting more chops. Gunther sets McAfee on the top rope for an avalanche German suplex but McAfee hits him with back elbows. McAfee misses a moonsault but lands on his feet. McAfee lands on his feet again when Gunther tries to hit a suplex. McAfee hits a kick but Gunther kicks out at one only.

They start to trade punches. Gunther looks good but McAfee wears him down. McAfee hits more punches. He comes off the ropes when Gunther counters with a powerbomb. Gunther does not go for the pin though. He puts McAfee in a Boston Crab. The crowd gets behind McAfee who gathers his power to drag himself towards the ropes. Michael Cole gets near the ring to cheer him up. Gunther pulls him back to the middle and puts on a choke. He lets it go when Cole shouts from the floor. Gunther pulls Cole into the ring. He tries to hit Cole with a powerbomb, but McAfee hits him with a dropkick.

Cole rolls to the floor again and he grabs Gunther’s leg when he goes for a suplex on McAfee. McAfee lands top of Gunther and goes for the pin with Cole still hold onto it, but Gunther still kicks out of the pin. He is delirious with Cole though and stares him down. McAfee puts Gunther in a rear naked choke. Gunther looks in trouble for a few seconds before he breaks free and drops McAfee with a big lariat. Gunther puts on a tight choke on McAfee now. McAfee tries to fight back with the crowd getting behind him but Gunther puts more pressure on the choke. The referee calls the match.

After the match, Gunther shows a bit of respect to McAfee after he gets up.

John Cena(c) vs Randy Orton – Undisputed WWE Championship

Great ovation for Orton in his hometown during his entrance. “John Cena Sucks” chants for Cena as he enters. They start the match with a collar and elbow tie up, but come to a stalemate. The same thing repeats once more. Cena offers a handshake. Orton takes his time but ultimately goes to shake it. But, it was a ruse as expected for Cena to rake his eyes. Cena takes a shot before Orton also flicks in his eyes. Cena rolls to the floor to regroup. Orton puts on a side headlock as Cena returns to the ring. Cena breaks free and runs the ropes, only to run into a shoulder tackle.

Orton puts on a side headlock again and takes him to the floor. Cena gets up but eats another shoulder tackle. Cena rolls to the floor and says he is done. He tries to walk out but Orton goes after him. Cena hits him with a clothesline when they return to the ring. Cena hits countdown punches from the second rope in the corner. Orton kicks to midsection before hitting the countdown punches himself with much better speed than Cena. Orton hits an uppercut to get a two-count. He stomps at Cena’s ankle several times. He stomps at his wrist next. He hits a knee drop on Cena’s face. Cena reverses a whip and puts a sleeper choke on Orton. He jumps up on his behind to put more pressure.

Orton breaks it up and pushes Cena to the ropes before putting on the sleeper choke himself. Cena reverses to put on the choke. Orton hits a back suplex to end that sequence. Both men are down. When they get up, Cena hits running shoulder tackles and a spin out powerbomb. Cena signals for the Five Knuckle Shuffle before hitting it. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Orton slips out and hits a couple of clotheslines. Orton hits a snap powerslam. He looks for the draping DDT, but Cena slips into a roll up to get a two-count. Cena quickly puts him in the STF submission. Orton does not allow him to get a proper grip. Orton rolls over and kicks him away. Orton hits the draping DDT this time.

Orton goes for the RKO, but it gets blocked. Cena goes the AA but Orton also slips in an RKO during the move. Both men are down once again. They get up after a while and start trading shots. They headbutt each other before more punches. Cena hits an AA out of nowhere, but Orton kicks out of it. The crowd starts “Lets Go Cena, Cena Sucks” chants. Cena goes for another AA, but Orton grabs the ropes. Cena hits a running shoulder tackle. He goes another one but Orton hits an RKO.

Orton takes a bit of time to recover. Cena avoids a Punt kick and hits another AA to get another near fall. Cena mocks Orton by his signature call for RKO. Cena lines up for the Punt kick himself, but Orton sidesteps easily. Orton goes for the RKO, but Cena pushes him away and into the referee bump. Cena hits another Attitude Adjustment. He tries to get the title as the referee is down. Orton catches him with an RKO. The referee wakes up and counts for the pin, but Cena kicks out in time.

Cena rolls out to the floor. Orton clears the announce table. The referee tries to talk him out of it. Cena pushes Orton from behind to send him into the referee once again. Cena looks for AA through the table but Orton slips out and instead hits an AA on Cena himself. Orton pulls out another table and sets it up at ringside. Cena rakes at his eyes and slams his face into the steel steps. Cena goes for the AA through the table again, but Orton counters with AA through the table again.

Orton takes Cena to the ring now. Orton gets ready for RKO now and hits it when Cena gets up. Another referee runs out but Cena kicks out by that time. Orton is frustrated now. Cena gets his hands on the title while Orton argues with the referee. Orton ducks the title shot from Cena which takes out the referee instead. Orton hits another RKO but there is no referee to count. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis runs out to the ring along with several other officials to check on the referee. Orton is frustrated and complains to him before hitting all of them with a streak of RKOs.

Orton lines up for the Punt kick on Cena. R-Truth runs out to stop Orton and pleads him to let Cena go. Orton hits him also with an RKO. As Orton looks at R-Truth going to the floor, Cena hits him with a low blow. Cena then hits Orton with the title and covers him. The original referee of the match drags into the ring and counts the pinfall.

Cena takes the mic after his win. He asks for his music to cut off. He says he does not need his music but he needs competition. He tells the crowd to take it in as he claims that this is what the last real champion looks like. The show goes off the air with Cena posing in the corner.
