There are multiple reports on the status of William Regal in AEW and WWE amid the rumours over the past two weeks.

Even before MJF knocked him out with his knuckles on AEW Dynamite last week, the murmurs about Regal being done with AEW started. That attack from MJF gave a storyline reason for Regal’s status on-screen and solidified the rumours about his AEW exit.

Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that Willam Regal has left AEW now while the storyline around the attack on him will continue on Dynamite in some form. Meltzer also confirmed that Regal is bound to go to WWE regardless while his story continues on-screen in AEW.

Meltzer also discussed Regal’s original contract with AEW and said there are two stories going around. His primary source has said that Regal signed a short-term deal with AEW while WWE sources are saying that he had an out in his contract or Tony Khan allowed him to go out.

Fightful Select also reported that William Regal is effectively done with AEW.

PWInsider added their own report that Regal is finalizing a new deal with WWE to return to WWE in January 2023 in a backstage role.

Regal worked as on-screen manager of WWE NXT from 2014 to 2021 while also working with creative and talent development. He was released from WWE in January 2022 before he made his AEW debut at AEW Revolution in March 2022. In AEW, Regal has been involved in uniting Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley on-screeen, creating Blackpool Combat Club and feuding with Jericho Appreciation Society.
