Jon Moxley Returning to Defend Title at The Wrld on GCW Event

AEW Star Jon Moxley will return to the ring after his hiatus to defend GCW World Championship at The Wrld on GCW event.

Moxley will face ROH star Homicide at January 23, 2022 event for the first time in over a decade. This will be Moxley’s first in-ring since October 2021.

Moxley went into rehabilitation for alcohol issues in early November last year. His last TV appearance came on the October 27 episode of AEW Dynamite where he defeated Dark Order’s 10 in the quarterfinal of AEW World Title Eliminator tournament.

Homicide won the right to challenge Moxley by winning GCW Do or Die Rumble at Die for This event on January 1. As per the statistics available, this is fourth match between Homicide and Moxley, and first since 2011. All three previous matches have come in different promotions – Evolve, CZW and Dragon Gate. One of these matches saw Moxley retaining CZW World Championship.

The Wrld on GCW event will also see ROH World title match between Jonathan Gresham and Blake Christian and a grudge match between Matt Cardona and Joey Janela. The event will air from Hammerstein Ballroom arena in New York City and is completely sold out.
