NOTES & STORYLINES

Full Gear PPV series is one of the original 4 PPV events that started with AEW in 2019. This is set to be the fifth event in the series.

MJF(c) vs Jay White – AEW World Championship

On September 27 AEW Dynamite, Jay White confronted MJF and claimed that he would dethrone him as AEW World Champion. Later in the show, White was attacked by a group of masked men backstage. One of the men had MJF’s devil mask on. On October 4 Dynamite, MJF claimed innocence in the matter but was attacked by Jay White and his Bullet Club Gold allies Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn. White took away the title belt and challenged MJF for it. MJF accepted the match immediately.

In the following weeks, MJF tried to get the belt back, but Bullet Club Gold always managed to block him. White issued a challenge for him for an 8-man tag team match face his faction. MJF agreed to the match on Dynamite November 1 episode, but put the stipulation that White had to return the title belt to him if he won. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn teamed up with MJF for this match, but White pinned MJF to get the win.

Prior to this, The Gunns challenged MJF to defend ROH Tag Team Championship against them at Full Gear which was held by MJF and Adam Cole. Cole was out of action with injury, but MJF agreed to defend the title by himself. Samoa Joe kept offering MJF to be his tag team partner for tag title defense, but with a condition that he would get a shot at AEW World Championship after that. MJF did not make a decision as The Acclaimed, Roderick Strong and The Kingdom were also offering to be his tag partner. However, The Acclaimed were taken out by the unknown team on Dynamite November 9 episode. It was only after Joe saved MJF on November 17 Rampage episode that MJF agreed to be his tag partner.

Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland

Swerve Strickland interrupted “Hangman” Adam Page’s promo on September 6 Dynamite episode to start a feud with him. Hangman defeated Brian Cage from Swerve’s faction on Dynamite September 13. Hangman and The Young Bucks defeated Cage and Gates of Agony to win ROH 6-Man Tag Team Championship from them. Swerve managed to beat Hangman at WrestleDream PPV. Cage and Gates of Agony won the ROH 6-Man title back after Swerve distracted Hangman and took him to backstage during the match.

AEW then announced a rematch between Hangman and Swerve at Full Gear. The following week, Swerve and Price Nana went to Hangman’s home while he was in the match at Dynamite. An enraged Hagman then revealed that the match against Swerve would be a Texas Deathmatch.

Christian Cage, Nick Wayne & Luchasaurus vs Sting, Darby Allin & Adam Copeland

Darby Allin won Rampage Battle Royal to become the #1 contender for TNT Championship, which was held by Luchasaurus at the time. The feud led to Christian Cage teaming with Swerve Strickland to face Darby and Sting at All In. Luchasaurus beat Darby at All Out event. Christian then beat Darby and Luchasaurus in a triple threat match to win TNT title on September 27 Dynamite. He managed to defend the title at WrestleDream in a 2-out-of-3 falls match against Darby when Darby’s protege Nick Wayne turned on him. Following the match, Adam Copeland made his AEW debut to make the save on Darby and Sting.

Sting announced his retirement from pro wrestling and revealed that his last AEW match will be at Revolution 2024 PPV. On October 24 Dynamite, Christian told Sting that he did not want him to be around for that long and challenged him for a trios match at Full Gear. Sting and Darby tried to talk Copeland to join him in the match, but he refused to fight his best friend. Christian ordered Luchasaurus and Wayne to attack Copeland on Dynamite October 1 episode, and he also tried to hit him with con-chair-to. Sting and Darby saved Copeland from further attack, and Copeland changed his mind and agreed to fight at Full Gear.

Kris Statlander(c) vs Julia Hart vs Skye Blue – AEW TBS Women’s Championship

Julia Hart failed to defeat Kris Statlander at WrestleDream PPV for TBS Women’s title. This was her first loss in AEW in 2023. She continued her pursuit for the title and won a qualifier match on Collision November 11 episode against Willow Nightingale. Skye Blue defeated Red Velvet in another qualifier to set up a triple threat match.

The Young Bucks(Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) vs The Golden Jets(Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho)

The Young Bucks won a title shot at AEW Tag Team Championship by winning a fatal 4-way tag team match. Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega were being targeted by Don Callis Family and fighting them separately. They joined forces and faced them in tag team matches on multiple occasions. The Young Bucks, Kenny’s friends, were not happy with Kenny and Jericho teaming up. They got into an argument with Jericho on Dynamite November 8 episode and ended up challenging them for a tag team match. Jericho accepted the challenge but added the stipulation that they would get the tag title shot that The Young Bucks had won earlier at WrestleDream.

Orange Cassidy(c) vs Jon Moxley – AEW International Championship

Jon Moxley defeated Orange Cassidy in the main event of All Out to end his International Championship reign. Moxley then lost the title to Rey Fenix 10 days later where he also suffered a concussion. Cassidy then defeated Fenix to win the title back on October 10 to become a two-time International title holder. AEW then announced a rematch between Cassidy and Moxley at Full Gear. Moxley and Wheeler Yuta defeated Cassidy and Hook in a tag team match at Dynamite November 15 episode.

Ricky Starks & Big Bill(c) vs FTR vs La Faccion Ingobernables vs Kings of The Black Throne- AEW Tag Team Championship

Ricky Starks and Big Bill defeated FTR on Collision October 7 episode in a shocking result. House of Black were calling out FTR, but the team was not responding. They later announced that since FTR were not responding to them, they would go after FTR’s favorite thing – AEW Tag Team titles. Rush and Dralistico returned to action and won a couple of tag team matches leading upto Full Gear. While Starks and Bill were not willing to defend their titles at all, AEW announced that they would defend the titles in a fatal 4-way match.
