AEW Dynamite Results May 8, 2024, Updates, Highlights

AEW Dynamite episode of May 8, 2024 continued the build-up for Double or Nothing 2024 PPV event. Adam Copeland defended TNT Championship against Brody King. Former Best Friends Orange Cassidy and Trent Beretta also clashed. We got an announcement regarding Anarchy in the Arena match. Check below for the complete results and updates.
RESULTS & UPDATES
TNT Champion Adam Copeland arrived to the arena as the show opens. He talked about not having a good feeling for tonight before announcing that his match vs Brody King will be a No DQ match.
Orange Cassidy defeated Trent Beretta in a singles match via pinfall. During the final seconds, Beretta exposed a turnbuckle. Cassidy then sent Beretta into the same exposed turnbuckle and rolled up Beretta to get the pinfall.
Beretta attacked Cassidy after the match and hit Cassidy with piledrivers on the ringsteps and the apron. Cassidy got hold of a chair. Don Callis separated them two.
We see The Young Bucks going to Jacksonville to Tony Khan’s office earlier today.
Next, we get behind the scene footage after The Elite attacked Kenny Omega last week where Jack Perry said that they would continue the mission without Omega.
Kenny Omega appeared from hospital via a video. He announced that The Elite – The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada and Jack Perry – would face FTR and two more people in Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing. These two persons would reveal themselves as early as tonight.
Tony Schiavone interviewed Serena Deeb backstage where she talked about her title match at Double or Nothing. AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm came in and got in Deeb’s face. Deeb dropped her with a big punch.
Rocky Romero went to Orange Cassidy backstage to check on him. He also informed Cassidy that they would get a match for AEW Trios title if he could win his match against Jay White tonight with a partner of their choosing. He suggested mending things with Trent Beretta. Cassidy was not interested.
Mariah May defeated Harley Cameron in a singles match. This was Cameron’s AEW in-ring debut. May had to hit Saraya with a boot on the floor as she tried to help Cameron. May hit the Mayhem to get the pinfall.
After the match, Saraya and Cameron attacked May. Mina Shirakawa ran out to make the save and a Toast of Champagne with her.
PAC gets interviewed backstage where he said he was not concerned with the future of Death Triangle at this point and time. Jay White interrupted him and told him to be concerned about himself.
Malakai Black appeared in a video talking about Adam Copeland and how they were bringing out the real side of Copeland.
We get a special video package for The Elite. We cut to the Young Bucks at the Gorilla Position with headsets on, calling the shots.
AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland came out to the ring and called out Christian Cage. Christian came out with the rest of The Patriarchy. Christian said he would take something from Swerve each week before taking AEW World title from him. When Christian threatened an attack, Swerve brought out The Mogul Embassy to be by his side. Swerve said when thing would get tough, Christian would say “I Quit”. Brian Cage then attacked Swerve from behind. Gates of Agony also joined in the attack. Swerve was put through the announce table from top of the ring steps with a double powerbomb.
Backstage, Christian Cage thanked The Young Bucks for their advise on The Mogul Embassy and hoped that it was a start of a fruitful working relationship.
Willow Nightingale was interviewed backstage saying that she was feeling well emotionally while not that well physically. She moved on to hype her match against Mercedes Mone and claimed to beat her.
Jay White defeated Rocky Romero in a singles match via pinfall after hitting The Blade Runner. Bullet Club Gold tried to attack Romero but PAC ran out to make the save.
A video aired Samoa Joe vignette airs.
“The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho & Big Bill defeated Mo Jabari & Harlon Abbott in a tag team match in a squash.
Jericho cut a promo post-match which was interrupted by Tony Schiavone informing that HOOK would return to Dynamite next week.
Adam Copeland(c) defeated Brody King in No Disqualification match to retain AEW TNT Championship. A brutal match ended with a Death Valley Driver and a spear from Copeland for a pinfall.
After the match, King attacked Copeland once again after the match. Kyle O’Reilly ran out to double team against King and forced him to get away.
We cut to Mercedes Mone’s interview backstage. She talked about getting injured in her last match against Willow and how she would let everyone know about the Money at Double or Nothing.
Adam Copeland and Kyle O’Reilly were backstage by the time we cut back to them. KOR asked Copeland about getting a title shot in his hometown at Collision this weekend. Copeland questioned if he saved him to get a title shot. He agreed to the title match regardless.
The Elite came out as The Young Bucks informed us that they have secured an overrun. Kazuchika Okada took a shot at Kenny Omega by calling himself the “Best Bout Machine” and wished him to get well soon. Matt Jackson wished the same to Tony Khan. The Elite accepted the challenge for Anarchy in the Arena match. FTR came out and revealed their tag team partners for the match to be Eddie Kingston and Bryan Danielson. The four of them got into the ring for a face-off. A brawl broke out eventually to close the show.
