AEW Dynamite April 3, 2024 continued the build-up for AEW Dynasty 2024 PPV with a contract signing for World title match at the event between Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe. Thunder Rosa & Mariah May clashed in a #1 contender’s match for the Women’s Championship.
The first semifinal for the tag team title tournament took place. Will Ospreay faced Powerhouse Hobbs in a singles match. Billy Gunn challenged Jay White while Chris Jericho called out Hook. RESULTS
Adam Copeland opened the show with a promo in the ring and talked about how he is a fan of pro-wrestling and just want to have fun. He named several names in AEW that he wants to face before introducing Will Ospreay for this match.
Will Ospreay defeated Powerhouse Hobbs in a singles match after hitting a swinging DDT, sky twister and Hidden Blade to get the pinfall.
Post-match, Hobbs got upset with Ospreay and got into his face. Don Callis got in between to calm down Hobbs. As Ospreay exits, Bryan Danielson made his way to the ring and they cross paths on the ramp.
Bryan Danielson defeated Lance Archer in a singles match after hitting running knee to get the pinfall.
Chris Jericho came out to the ring and called out Hook to come out also. He talked about becoming Hook’s mentor but brought up how Hook said he knows who Jericho is. They talked about trusting each other before agreeing to a tag team match on Collision.
Backstage, Shane Taylor revealed that Shane Taylor Promotions would be the opponents for Chris Jericho and Hook.
Billy Gunn defeated Jay White in a singles match via disqualification when White hit Gunn with a low blow while The Gunns had Gunn distracted.
After the match, Bullet Club Gold were beating up Gunn. The Acclaimed ran out to force them to leave.
Willow Nightingale came out to the ring for an interview with Renee Paquette along with Kris Statlander & Stokley Hathaway. She talked about working in Worcester for a few years and called it home away from home. Stokley interrupted her and said she impresses everyone every week. Mercedes Mone came out and announced that the winner between Willow and Julia Hart at Dynasty would face her at Double or Nothing for TBS Women’s title.
The Young Bucks(Matthew Jackson & Nicolas Jackson) defeated Best Friends(Orange Cassidy & Trent Beretta) in the semifinal of AEW Tag Team Championship. Trent and Cassidy were hot after a comeback in the final half of the match. Trent was hyping up with her mom and turned to get caught up with a roll-up for the pinfall.
After the match, The Young Bucks told Trent’s mother Sue “cry me a river”. Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor hug in the ring. Trent attacked Cassidy out of nowhere with a running knee. Trent left the ring alone.
Thunder Rosa defeated Mariah May in a singles match to become #1 contender for AEW Women’s Championship via pinfall after hitting Tijuana Bomb.
Backstage, Penta El Zero Miedo challenged TNT Champion Adam Copeland for a title match next week.
A contract signing took place between AEW World Champion Samoa Joe and Swerve Strickland for their match at Dynasry. It ultimately led to brawling where Swerve tried to choke Joe with a chain, but Joe escaped and hit Swerve with the chain to split him open. Officials separated them and Joe left the ring. Swerve then signed the contract with his own blood before claiming to take the title from Joe.
