UFC 298 PPV is set to take place on February 17, 2024, at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. It will be UFC’s second PPV event of 2024. UFC Featherweight Championship bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilja Topuria is one of the bouts at the event.

EVENT NOTES

In an interview with Spanish TV Channel, Ilja Topuria said that he and Alexander Volkanovski had agreed to fight for UFC Featherweight Championship and the fight would take place early in 2024. UFC 297 in January was seen as the event where this bout would take place. However, Volkanovski then took a short-notice fight at UFC 294 against Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski got knocked out in that fight. Dana White later announced that Volkanovski and Topuria would clash at UFC 298 in February 2024.

On November 23, 2023, White once again took to social media to announce February 17, 2024, as the date and Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, to be the location for the event.

Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa were expected to headline a Fight Night event in April 2021, but Costa pulled out of the bout due to illness. They were announced to face off at UFC 284, but Costa said he never signed a contract for this bout, and the fight was later announced to be cancelled. The bout was booked for the third time for this event as the co-main event.

A light heavyweight bout between Zhang Mingyang and Brendson Ribeiro was scheduled for UFC Shanghai Fight Night on December 9, 2023. The bout was postponed due to a change of location to Las Vegas as fighters faced visa issues. It was later rescheduled for thi event.

Geoff Neal vs Ian Garry welterweight bout was first booked for UFC 292 PPV, but Neal pulled out of the bout due to health issues. The bout was later announced for UFC 299 PPV. Dana White announced on December 21 that the bout was moved to UFC 298.

Tai Tuivasa vs Marcin Tybura heavyweight bout was announced for this event. However, Dana White later announced that it was moved to headline UFC Vegas 88 event on March 16, 2024.

Tatiana Suarez was announced to face Amanda Lemos in a strawweight bout. Suarez pulled out of the bout later and McKenzie Dern was announced as her replacement. Suarez later revealed that she suffered a knee injury.

Yusaku Kinoshita vs Danny Barlow welterweight bout was booked for this show. But, Kinoshita pulled out of the event with unknown reasons. Josh Quinlan came in as his replacement.

Rinya Nakamura vs Brady Hiestand bantamweight bout was announced for the show. Later, Hiestand pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Carlos Vera, who was making his promotional debut.

Anthony Hernandez and Roman Kopylov were booked to clash at Noche UFC 2023 Fight Night, but Hernandez pulled out of the event due to injury. Hernandez was booked to face Ikram Aliskerov at this event. Aliskerov had to withdraw from the event. Hernandez was then rebooked to face Kopylov.

Marcos Rogério de Lima vs Justin Tafa heavyweight bout was announced for the show. Justin Tafa had to withdraw from the event due to injury one day before the event. Justin’s brother Junior Tafa came in to replace him on one day notice.
