Derrick Lewis Arrested and Charged for Alleged Driving Offense
Derrick Lewis is currently facing a charge for reckless driving.
Derrick Lewis was arrested on Wednesday, October 25, and he was charged with a misdemeanour, as indicated by court records. According to the Harris County (Texas) police, Lewis is accused of driving at a speed of 136 mph in a 50 mph zone, as reported by ABC 13 Houston.
The department further stated that Lewis, who was driving a red Lamborghini, made unsafe lane changes and weaved in and out of traffic. Following his arrest, Lewis was released on a $100 bond just hours afterward. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 27.
As of now, neither the promotion nor Lewis has issued any comments on the matter. It’s worth noting that Lewis is currently in Brazil, as indicated on his social media accounts. He is set to be the headline fighter at UFC Sao Paulo 2023 event, where he will face off against Jailton Almeida.
Derrick Lewis recently secured a victory at UFC 291, where he defeated Marcos Rogeria De Lima with a knockout just 33 seconds into the first round.
This win brought an end to Lewis’s three-fight losing streak, during which he faced highly-ranked contenders like Sergey Spivac, Tai Tuivasa, and Serghei Pavlovich. Lewis is currently positioned at #10 in the UFC heavyweight rankings.
