WWE SmackDown March 22, 2024 episode is the third last SmackDown show before WrestleMania 40 event. The show featured a face-to-face meeting between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.
Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar also clashes in a singles match. Additionally, two tag team title qualifier matches were also set where The Street Profits faced AOP, and Austin Theory & Grayson Waller took on The OC’s Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. RESULTS & UPDATES
Santos Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio in a singles match. A good display of luchador wrestling from both men. The finish came when a masked man pulled Mysterio off the rope when he went for a springboard move. This masked man was revealed to be Dominik Mysterio later. Escobar capitalized on this by hitting 619 and the Phantom Driver to get the pinfall.
Bayley met with Naomi backstage and thanked her for helping last week against Damage CTRL. Bianca Belair interrupted them and told Bayley that everything she was experiencing was a long time coming. Belair and Bayley started arguing while Naomi tried to cool them down.
After the break, Bianca Belair and Naomi were talking and walking with Bianca telling Naomi not to get involved with Damage CTRL. Naomi instead asked Bianca to help her out as she could not handle them on her own.
Austin Theory & Grayson Waller defeated The OC(Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) in Tag Team Title Qualifier Tournament. Theory caught Gallows with a roll-up to get the pinfall as Gallows was throwing Waller out of the ring.
We saw the footage of Roman Reigns appearing on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today.
Iyo Sky defeated Naomi in a singles match. Naomi had control of the match and went to the top rope for a moonsault. Asuka, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai came out to the ringside to cause a distraction. Iyo pulled Naomi off the top rope and hit Over the Moonsault to get the pinfall.
After the match, Damage CTRL attacked Naomi. Asuka spit green mist of Naomi’s face. Bianca Belair ran out to make the save but Dakota ended up hitting her with a chop block.
We got a video package for Jade Cargill who is set to make her first appearance as the SmackDown contracted star next week.
Naomi was backstage trying to get mist off her eyes. Bianca Belair & a medical assistant were there to help her. Tiffany Stratton came in and taunted Naomi saying that the blue mist was a great look for her.
Kevin Owens was with SmackDown Manager Nick Aldis backstage before Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) interrupted them. Owens challenged Pretty Deadly to a tag team match against himself and his partner. They accepted and made fun of Owens for not having any “friends” to be his partner. Randy Orton was standing behind them and accepted Owens’ offer to be his partner. Owens left before catching Pretty Deadly off gaurd to punch them both in one shot.
We saw a footage of AJ Styles preparing his workout regimen before his match against LA Knight at WrestleMania XL. LA Knight appeared in Styles’s parking lot and they got to brawling. We saw footage from Police Cam with Knight & Styles brawling in the parking lot before LA Knight was arrested.
The Street Profits(Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) defeated AOP(Akam & Rezar) in Tag Team Title Qualifier Tournament match. AOP hit Ford with the Final Chapter in the final moments of the match, but Dawkins broke the pinfall. Dawkins then saved Ford from a vertical suplex and leveled Rezar. Ford then rolled up Rezar to get the pinfall.
Backstage, Paul Heyman told Roman Reigns that he had confirmed that Cody Rhodes was all alone. Roman then left his locker room to make his entrance.
Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes met in the ring. Roman told Cody that he is a fool for trusting Seth Rollins. Roman reminded Cody of Rollins being like his brother in the Shield and then he backstabbed him. Cody reminded Roman that he and his brother were the first team to beat Shield. Cody then questioned if Roman can trust The Rock. Roman got angry at Cody for trying to turn it around on him and how he said the same thing to Rock last week. Roman said Cody has made many promises to the fans, but he has proved to be a liar. Roman called Cody the best #2 in pro wrestling history while he is the #1 guy. Cody talked about how both of them grew up in wrestling families. Cody said that the next generation would want to follow Roman, but Cody’s desitny is to be the one. Cody offered a handshake but Roman left the ring and stood on the ramp. Roman then snapped his finger which led to Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso coming through the crowd and stand beside him. Shortly afterward, Seth Rollins and Jey Uso came out to stand with Cody as the show went off the air.
