Oba Femi Wins North American Championship on WWE NXT January 9
Oba Femi became the new NXT North American Champion by defeating Dragon Lee.
During January 9 main event of NXT, Dragon Lee returned to NXT after missing the last week’s show due to some visa issues. Lexis King came to him with a contract for a title match against him. Lee had not hesitation in accepting the title match against King.
Later in the show, King showed off his title contract to Oba Femi, who had his own NXT Breakout tournament title shot contract with him. This incident planted an idea in Femi’s mind though.

Dragon Lee was able to retain NXT North American Championship successfully against King. After the match, Lee’s night took an unexpected turn when Oba Femi made his way and cashed his NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament contract.
The match was a short one with Lee starting with some high flying move. Femi cut him after a few seconds and dropped him a couple of times before executing the last ride powerbomb to win the title.
This is Femi’s inaugural reign as NXT North American Champion. Femi won NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament contract at NXT New Year Evil 2024 event by defeating Riley Osborne. All and all, Femi has had just 4 matches in NXT so far.
Dragon Lee’s tenure as North American Champion concluded at 32 days. He won the title at NXT Deadline 2023 event by defeating Dominik Mysterio.
