UFC Targeting Oliveira vs Gamrot for Sept 7 Fight Night in Calgary, Canada
UFC is looking to return to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, for a Fight Night event on September 7, 2024.
The report is coming from Jonathan Gomez of MMA Global. The report also adds that a key lightweight contest between Charles Oliveira and Mateusz Gamrot is also targetted by UFC, although nothing has been agreed yet.
Gomez also reported that the hold-up on Oliveira vs Gamrot bout is that Oliveira’s side wants the bout to be a 3-round contest on a PPV undercard.
Earlier reports suggested that a welterweight contest between Sean Brady and Gilbert Burns could be the headliner bout for September 7 Fight Night. This report mentions that if Oliveira vs Gamrot headlines, Brady vs Burns would serve as the co-main event.
Charles Oliveira was last in action at UFC 300 where he suffered a split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan. That was his second loss after he lost a vacant title fight to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in October 2022. In between, he defeated Beniel Dariush at UFC 289.
Mateusz Gamrot is currently on a 3-fight winning streak right now since his second loss in UFC which came against Beniel Dariush. Gamrot has since beaten Jalin Turner, Rafael Fiziev and Rafael dos Anjos.
