UFC 305: Israel Adesanya Announces Main Event vs Dricus Du Plessis

Israel Adesanya has announced that he would return to octagon at UFC 305 to challenge UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis.
Adesanya made the announcement about his return via his Instagram account. A two-time UFC Middleweight titleholder, he has been out of action since losing the title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 PPV in September last year.
That was Adesanya’s second loss in his last three UFC bouts. He lost the title for the first time to long time rival Alex Pereira at UFC 281 PPV in November 2022, but was able to regain the title at UFC 287 in April 2023.
The rivalry between Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya stems from their argument over who represents the African continent the best. The duo were originally planned to clash at UFC 293 itself, but Du Plessis denied the fight due to a short turn around time after his bout at UFC 290.
Du Plessis is currently on an impressive 9-fight winning streak. His latest fight saw him beat Sean Strickland to win the middleweight title. Prior to this win, he has wins over top middleweights like Robert Whittaker, Derek Brunson and Darren Till.
UFC 305 is set to take place on August 17, 2024. at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. As per rumors, Australian fighters like Jack Della Maddalena, Steve Erceg and Drakkar Klose are set to be in action at the event.
