Report: AJ Lee Set for WWE Return, Match Targeted at WrestlePalooza
AJ Lee’s return to WWE is looking more and more possible with a couple of more reports adding weight to earlier speculations.
An ever standing fan request, Lee’s return speculations gathered momentum after Clash in Paris event. We covered in this report, how Becky Lynch’s attack on CM Punk to help her husband Seth Rollins led to fans believing that Lee would be seen soon in WWE. On RAW this week, Punk also teased about Lee appearing on Smackdown episode in Chicago on September 5, 2025. Now, two reports have come out confirming the same.
Report 1: Lee’s Return is Imminent
As per Fightful Select, most in WWE consider it a foregone conclusion that AJ Lee is on-screen return to WWE in imminent. As per the post on Patreon, she will be announced or be at this Friday’s Smackdown in Chicago. The report also adds that WWE is planning to have Lee return to the ring at WrestlePalooza event on September 20, which will be their first premium live event on ESPN’s new streaming service
Report 2: Mixed Tag Match is Planned
Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline reported on Tuesday on X that Lee’s match is being planned for WrestlePalooza. He also confirmed that it would be a mixed tag match with CM Punk & AJ Lee taking on Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch.
Why Lee’s Return is Huge?
Lee left WWE in 2015 with last match taking place on RAW March 30, 2015 episode. A few days later, WWE announced her retirement from in-ring competition due to what was later determined to be a damage to her cervical spine. Lee has not wrestled since, but she worked as an executive producer in Women of Wrestling promotion from October 2021 to August 2023.
This return and match at WrestlePalooza would be monumental for fans who have been hoping for getting another glimpse of Lee. Fightful Select’s report additionally mentioned that WWE hopes they can do more with Lee. There are a number of women on the roster who never got to work with her and are huge fans who would surely be excited on the prospect of working with her.
