IMPACT Slammiversary 2023 event was the third PPV event of the year from IMPACT Wrestling promotion. The event took place on July 15, 2023, at St. Claire College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Knockouts title was be on the line at the event in the match between Deonna Purrazzo and Trinity. Alex Shelley defended his IMPACT World Championship against Nick Aldis.

  • IMPACT announced the event during Sacrifice 2023 event on March 24, 2023.
  • This was the second Slammivesary event to take place in Canada after 2018 event.

Deonna Purrazzo(c) vs Trinity – Impact Knockouts World Championship

Trinity made it clear that she had her eyes on Knockouts title when she made her debut in May. On June 1 IMPACT weekly episode, Trinity called out Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo to defend the title against her at Slammiversary. Purrazzo came out and accepted the challenge right away. Savannah Evans and Gisele Shaw attacked them right after it. This led to a tag team match where Trinity and Purrazzo defeated Evans and Shaw at Against All Odds 2023 event.

Alex Shelley defeated Steve Maclin to win IMPACT World Championship at Against All Odds 2023. On the same event, Nick Aldis became the #1 contender for the title by winning the first ever 8-4-1 match to set up the match at Slammiversary. On June 15 IMPACT episode, Aldis teamed up with Motor City Machine Gun, Purrazzo and Trinity in a tag team match. After their win, Aldis ran over Shelley with IMPACT title. On June 29 IMPACT episode, Aldis and Shelley got involved in a brawl.

Scott D’Amore & Eric Young vs Bully Ray & Cody Deaner

Bully Ray and IMPACT President Scott D’Amore already had issues with each other when Bully started his title chase before Hard to Kill PPV. On January 5 episode of IMPACT tapings, Bully put D’Amore through a table to sideline him for more than two months. D’Amore returned on Sacrifice event where he saved Tommy Dreamer from a post-match attack from Bully and The Good Hands. Maclin was at D’Amore that he did not strap the title around his waist after he became IMPACT World Champion at Rebellion.

When Maclin wanted to defend the title against a Canadian at Under Siege, D’Amore booked him against PCO. D’Amore came out and strapped the title on Macline after his win at Under Siege. But, he was quickly choked from behind by Bully and was later put through a burning table. D’Amore returned at Against All Odds to hit Bully with a chair during 8-4-1 IMPACT World title contender match to cost him the match.

Bully then wrote to Anthem Board(IMPACT’s owners) to take action against D’Amore. D’Amore was asked take a pause in his duties as President of IMPACT Wrestling. An enraged D’Amore got in a battle of words with Bully before starting to punch him. Maclin helped Bully but PCO returned to save D’Amore who later announced this match for Slammiversary. Later, Steve Maclin pulled out of the match due to injury. Bully then announced on Busten Open Radio show that Cody Deaner would be his partner in the match. PCO’s status was also pulled out of the even after he was set on fire on IMPACT July 6 episode. Eric Young turned out to be the mystery partner for D’Amore.

On June 29 IMPACT on AXS TV episode, IMPACT announced the return of the Ultimate-X match once again. This time, the match identified the new #1 contender for X-Division Championship. Mike Bailey, Jonathan Gresham, Kushida, Kevin Knight and Angels were announced to be part of the match.

After the June 29 IMPACT TV episode, the promotion announced that ABC would continue their title reign with a title defense at Slammiversary in a 4-way match. The champions would face SubCulture, Moose & Brian Myers, and Sami Callihan & Rich Swann in the title match. ABC had previously defeated each of these teams on different occasions.

Lio Rush returned to IMPACT on June 29 episode by beating Jack Price. Later in the show, he attacked X-Division Champion Chris Sabin when he tried to help out Alex Shelley against Nick Aldis. After the show, Chris Sabin put a promo on social media where he called out Rush for trying to cut the line of challengers before challenging him for the title match at Slammiversary.

Killer Kelly and Masha Slamovich had been feuding for the past few months which saw them clashing in a singles match and then a Dog Collar match. Kelly defeated Taylor Wilde in a singles match, but was attacked by Wilde and King. Slamovich made the save which led to Slamovich and Kelly forming a team. IMPACT then announced that this new tag team would get a title shot at Knockouts Tag Team Championship.

Kazarian called out Edwards for poor sportsmanship as he refused to shake hands with Yuya Uemera after their match. Kazarian defeated Edwards in a singles match at Against All Odds. They clashed in a rematch at IMPACT July 6 TV episode where Edwards’s wife Alisha interfered to help Edwards win the match. Later that night, Kazarian challenged Edwards for a rematch and also announced that he would bring in his wife Traci Brooks to be in his corner.

Joe Hendry made fun of Kenny King during IMPACT June 29 episode. IMPACT made the match official on July 6 via social media.

Gisele Shaw faced Courtney Rush in a singles match on IMPACT TV episode and was helped to a win by her Shawntourage buddies. Rush and Havok confronted Shawntourage and was joined by Jody Threat. This later led to a match being announced for the Countdown to Slammiversary.
