Sonya Deville made a return on the New Year’s edition of WWE SmackDown.
WWE Women’s Star Sonya Deville returned on 1 January 2020 edition of WWE SmackDown. She was shown walking in the backstage area. Several WWE Superstars like Billie Kay, King Corbin, Steve Culter, Wesley Blake, and other WWE staff were shown looking at Deville.
This is Deville’s first appearance in WWE since she lost a match to Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020. As per the “Loser Leaves WWE” stipulation of that match, Deville was removed from WWE. Corey Graves noted on commentary that Deville has been reinstated, and is once again a member of the SmackDown roster.
There is no update on what WWE are planning to do with Deville after her return. Mandy Rose, with whom Deville was feuding before her dissappearance, has been moved to the RAW roster in the 2020 WWE Draft.
Deville was one of the front runners for a surprise return at the women’s match at Royal Rumble 2021. However, it seems WWE has decided to bring her back one month before that.
Real name Daria Barenato, Sonya decided to take a break from WWE after a kidnapping attempt on her back in August from her residence in Hillsborough County, FL. A man was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary of a dwelling, attempted armed kidnapping, and criminal mischief for breaking into Berenato’s home.
