A rematch for the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko is set to headline UFC Fight Night on September 16, 2023.

MMA Latinoamérica outlet was the first to report this news two weeks ago. The bout was also reported by MMA Interviewer The Schmo on Thursday once again. UFC Fight Night event on September 16 is not confirmed by UFC yet but it is expected to take place at at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Alexa Grasso defeated Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 event to win the women’s flyweight title. Grasso’s win was considered an upset as Shevchenko lost via submission for the first time. Also, this was her first loss since she was defeated by Amanda Nunes at UFC 215 in September 2017.

Shevchenko reigned supreme as the flyweight champion after winning it from Joanna Jedrzejczyk in 2018 at UFC 231 event. Some of her title defences during 1547 days reign included MMA legends like Liz Carmouche and Jéssica Andrade.

Grasso became the first Mexican woman to win a UFC title. Also, she is just the third women’s flyweight champion in UFC. This win continued Grasso’s winning streak as she is now unbeaten in her five recent fights. Started in 2020, the streak features wins over Kim Ji-yeon, Maycee Barber, Joanne Wood and Viviane Araújo.

September 16 is also Mexican Independence Day. So, we can expect more Mexican fighters to be involved on the card. One other bouts that is reported for the show has Mexican-Canadian Lupita Godinez on the card. Anthony Hernandez vs Chris Curtis Middleweight bout is also reported the show.
