Gerald Meerschaert is hoping to remain on UFC 286 card after a bout against Abusupiyan Magomedov now stands canceled.

Meerschaert and Magomedov were expected to clash at February 18’s UFC Fight night Event earlier. Magomedov’s team UFD Gym posted on Instagram that the bout is rescheduled for UFC 286 PPV in London.

Later, Eurosport’s Marcel Dorff reported that Magomedov’s visa issues has led to the middleweight bout being canceled. It was expected that Magomedov might not be able to secure UK visa in time to be part of the event on March 18, 2023.

Meerschaert also responded to this report from Marcel Dorff seemingly confirmed that the bout is off. Meerschaert said he has changed his camp and travel plans due to Magomedov’s issues. He also hoped that UFC keeps him on UFC 286 card.

This is the second time that this bout is being canceled due to visa issues. The pair was scheduled to clash on a Fight Night on December 18, 2021, but the bout was canceled that time also due to Magomedov’s visa issues.

Gerald Meerschaert is 4-1 since the start of 2021. He defeated Bartosz Fabiński, Makhmud Muradov and Dustin Stoltzfus in 2021 before losing to Krzysztof Jotko in April 2022. He was last in action in August 2022 to defeat Bruno Silva via third-round submission.

UFC 286 is scheduled for March 18, 2023. With more than 2 months left for the event, we can certainly hope that UFC Meerschaert could secure an opponent for Meerschaert for the card. Keep tuned in for more news and updates.
