The fight was under discussion for over 3 months last year before “the Bud” walked out of negotiations when his demands were not met. He ended up fighting David Avanesyan in his only fight in 2022. Crawford was then ordered to fight Alexis Rocha.


Spence also seemed to have moved on to face Keith Thurman after it was announced at WBC Convention, but then he met an accident in December 2022 and sustained minor injuries. This delayed his return to the ring and when he was ready to return, the negotiations with Crawford started once again. Rocha also moved on for other fights, hinting that a deal between Championship and Spence is more likely to be made this time around.
