Eimantas Stanionis vs Vergil Ortiz Jr Rescheduled for July 8
It seems like Vergil Ortiz Jr will finally challenge Eimantas Stanionis in July later this year.
According to ESPN, the fight between Eimantas Stanionis vs Vergil Ortiz Jr WBA title bout has been rescheduled to take place on July 8, 2023.
Vergil Ortiz Jr has finally recovered from rhabdomyolysis which was caused due to long COVID. Now, he is finally cleared to compete in the ring.
This is the second time the fight between Stanionis and Ortiz Jr was rescheduled. Initially, the fight was scheduled for March 18, but Stanionis underwent surgery in January and it was postponed.
The fight then was booked for April 29. However, Vergil suffered the recurrence of rhabdomyolysis, and it was postponed again.
Eimantas Stanionis is coming off a split-decision win against Radzhab Butaev in April 2022 where he won the WBA regular welterweight title. On the other hand, Vergil Ortiz is coming off a ninth-round TKO win against Michael McKinson. Vergil is yet to go till the last round as he won all 19 of his matches via stoppage.
Now, it will be interesting to see which one of these fighters will register their first loss when they face each other on July 8, 2023.
