Welcome to the live results blog for WWE Backlash 2023 PLE, live from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 6, 2023.

7 matches were announced for a stacked card on the show starting with Brock Lesnar vs Cody Rhodes match. The rivalry started with Brock blindsiding Cody with an attack on RAW After WrestleMania episode. Cody now wanted payback against Lesnar. The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa, Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso would try to solve the problems in Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Matt Riddle, which was a continuation of Owens and Sami’s rivalry with The Bloodline.

Bad Bunny took on Damian Priest in a San Juan Street Fight to cap off LWO vs Judgment Day rivalry. Bunny formally joined LWO during last night’s SmackDown at the same arena. Another match in the rivalry would see Zelina Vega challenge WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley. This would be Zelina’s first match in Puerto Rico.

Seth Rollins took on “The Nigerian Giant” Omos in a marquee singles match. Rollins’ eyes were already set up towards World Heavyweight Championship already. Did overlooking Omos prove costly to him? Bianca Belair defended RAW Women’s Championship against Damage CTRL’s Iyo Sky. A triple-threat match for United States Championship between Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley and Bronson Reed completed the match card.

BACKLASH 2023 RESULTS

  • Bianca Belair(c) defeated Iyo Sky in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE RAW Women’s Championship.
  • Seth Rollins defeated Omos in a singles match via pinfall.
  • Austin Theory(c) defeated Bobby Lashley & Bronson Reed in a Triple Threat match via pinfall to retain WWE United States Championship.
  • Rhea Ripley(c) defeated Zelina Vega in a singles match via pinfall to retain WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.
  • Bad Bunny defeated Damian Priest in San Juan Street Fight via pinfall.

Bianca Belair(c) vs Iyo Sky – WWE RAW Women’s Championship

Huge support for Iyo also as she is announced. Response for Bianca is clearly more. Dual chants as the bell rings. They lock up and Bianca pushes Iyo to the corner. Iyo counters with a switch to waistlock before Bianca counters with an arm wringer. Iyo goes to turn it around but Bianca breaks free and puts on a chinlock after a takedown. Iyo also takes her down with a side headlock but Bianca counters with a leg scissors. Bianca hits a shoulder tackle to knock her off. Iyo hits a hurricanrana.

Bianca hits a back elbow, jumps over Iyo with a moonsault and hits dropkick. A couple of body slams from Bianca follows. Iyo blocks the third one. She drops Bianca’s arm on the ropes. Iyo gets to the top rope and uses the ropes for a choke. Iyo stomps on Bianca’s arm to damage it more. Iyo continues to work on the arm now. The crowd is firmly behind Iyo despite her being the heel. A takedown from Iyo using Bianca’s arm. Bianca overpowers her to hit a body slam. Iyo dips underneath and nails some forearms after capturing Bianca’s arm behind her back. She drives that arm of Bianca into the turnbuckle.

Iyo puts on a dragon sleeper before dropping a knee on the injured arm. Bianca tries to kick Iyo but Iyo keeps up with the attack. Iyo misses double knees in the corner. Bianca hits an elbow, sidesteps in the corner before Iyo counters Glam Slam with a sunset flip and into a double stomp. Iyo rolls up Bianca for a quick two-count. They trade shots on their knees. Bianca gets the better shots before she blocks a hurricanrana to hit a backbreaker, but also damages her injured arm in the process. Bianca hits a couple of clotheslines, a dorpkick and a delayed vertical suplex. She kips up amid big cheers from the crowd.

Bianca hits a shoulder tackle in the corner before countdown punches from the second rope. Iyo pushes her away and gets to the top turnbuckle. Bianca nails her with a big right. Bianca gets Iyo up in a military press with one arm and hits a bodyslam. Bianca follows up with a springboard moonsault to get a close two-count. Bianca goes for another body slam but Iyo slips out. Bianca hits a snapmare but then misses in the corner. Iyo fires back with punches before dropping Bianca’s arm on the ropes once again. She hits a springboard missile dropkick. Bianca is sent to the floor by the momentum.

Bianca pushes Iyo off the top rope. She goes for a senton but Iyo gets her knees up. She puts on a crossface but Bianca overpowers her. She goes for a powerbomb but Iyo counters it with a bulldog to get a near fall. Iyo hits double knees in the corner. She misses a double stomp after a roll-through. Bianca gets her up for KOD but Iyo hits Tijeras to send Bianca to the floor. Bianca drags her out of the ring but Iyo kicks her away. Bianca charges and Iyo sends her into the ropes before hitting a knee on the rebound. Iyo hits a moonsault on the floor. Iyo takes Bianca back to the ring and gets a two-count.

Iyo puts Bianca to the top. Bianca pushes her down to the apron. Iyo gets back up and goes for a hurricanrana. Bianca blocks it a couple of times and hits a powerbomb off the top rope. Iyo kicks out of the pin though. Dakota Kai and Bayley come out to the floor now. Iyo grabs Bianca’s braids but Bianca counters with an KOD attempt. She hits Dakota using Iyo’s body. Iyo counters KOD with a roll-up for a near fall. Bayley is pulled into the ring and she ends up distracting the referee while Dakota nails Bianca with a kick. Iyo goes to the top while Bayley holds down Bianca’s braids. The referee catches her and asks her to let it go. Iyo misses a moonsault from the top. Bianca hits KOD to get the pinfall.

Winner – Bianca Belair

Rey Mysterio goes to Rey Mysterio backstage. Rey brings Savio Vega with him who hands Bunny a special kendo stick with the Puerto Rico flag on it.

Omos vs Seth Rollins

Huge cheers for Seth Rollins and the crowd joins in singing his entrance theme. Rollins keeps playing with the crowd as he gets into the ring. Omos attacks him from behind as he gets fed up of this. The referee asks Rollins if he wants to continue. He agrees and the bell rings. Omos runs him over with a running shoulder tackle. Omos throws him to the corner. Rollins rolls to the floor and drops Omos’ face into the ropes. Rollins jumps off the top but Omos swats him away. Omos grab Rollins’ face with his arm before throwing him to the floor.

MVP talks trash to Rollins on the floor. Omos gets out of the ring and goes for a powerslam. Rollins slips out and pushes Omos into the ringpost. Rollins hits a suicide dive but Omos is still on his feet. Omos catches the second dive and hits a chokeslam to drop Rollins on the apron. Omos picks up Rollins in a military press and throws him back into the ring. Omos drops Rollins on the top turbuckle and follows up with a big boot.

Rollins hangs onto a sleeper choke but Omos yanks him away. Rollins hits a springboard knee. He follows up with some punches before low dropkick to get Omos on one knee. A superkick follows before Rollins attempts a pedigree. Omos just counters it with back body drop. Omos misses a corner splash. Rollins slams his face into the ringpost. He follows up with a tornado DDT off the top rope. Rollins goes to the top and hits a frog splash. Omos kicks out at just one. Rollins is in disbelief.

Rollins resorts to punches while Omos is still on his knees. Rollins hits rolling elbows before forearm shot by jumping from the second rope. Rollins goes for the stomp by Omos blocks it with his power. Omos gets up and hits a chokeslam for a two-count. Omos goes for the double chokeslam but Rollins slips out and puts on a sleeper. Omos slams him to the corner. Rollins jumps on Omos’ back once again and puts on the sleeper. Omos starts to fade before he gets up and hits a side slam.

MVP gets into the ring to distract the referee. Rollins hits a stomp on Omos before hitting a superkick on MVP to send him out of the ring. Rollins hits another stomp on Omos but he kicks out of the pin at two. Rollins gets to the top now. He hits a stomp from the top rope, a super stomp, to get the pinfall.

Winner – Seth Rollins

The crowd starts to sing Rollins’ theme once again as he recovers on the floor. Rollins has a smile on his face as he goes back.

Austin Theory(c) vs Bobby Lashley vs Bronson Reed – Triple Threat match for WWE United States Championship

Lashley tackles Theory as he charges towards him. Reed pulls Lashley away from Theory but Lashley sends him to the corner. Reed catches Theory in a DDT position when Lashley throws him away but Lashley runs them over with a clothesline. Lashley goes for a Hurt Lock on Reed but Theory hits a dropkick to block it. Lashley recovers quickly after some shots from Theory and hits a delayed vertical suplex. Theory trips Lashley and holds down his leg as Reed returns to the ring to hits a splash.

Reed and Theory now start to work together on Lashley in the corner with punches. Reed hits a crossbody. Theory hits a double stomp as they try to outshine each other. Theory hits a corner splash but turns to a Thesz press from Reed. Reed hits another tackle. Lashley sends Reed to the floor with a clothesline before tackle on Theory. Lashley hits a spear on Theory but Reed pulls him out of the ring before the pinfall. Reed counters on the floor hits a splash off the top rope on Lashley’s arm.

Reed gets Lashley back to the ring. He goes to the top for Tsunami but Theory trips him off the top. Theory gets into the ring and Lashley puts him in the Hurt lock. Theory hulks up and kicks off the ropes to turn the Hurt lock into a pin attempt. Reed hits Tsunami on Lashley. Theory has to break the pin attempt. Theory hits back elbows on Reed before a blockbuster. Theory gets Reed up on his shoulders for A Town Down but Reed slips out and hits a snap powerslam. Reed misses a moonsault on Theory. Lashley quickly hits a spear. Theory throws Lashley out of the ring and covers Reed to get the pinfall.

Winner – Austin Theory

Lashley is disappointed after losing another US title match. Theory gets to the floor quickly after taking his title.

Rhea Ripley(c) vs Zelina Vega – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Rhea comes out first with some boos. Some “Mami” chants pick up later. LWO music hits as Zelina comes out drapped in the Puerto Rico flag. Zelina’s family is in the front row. Zelina is in tears as her name is announced. The crowd is firmly behind Zelina with more local chants. Rhea is ready to take on the crowd.

Zelina ducks as Rhea runs towards her. “Ole” chants from the crowd after that. Rhea throws her into the corner. Zelina slips to the floor. She gets a “chappal” from her mother and throws it at Rhea. Zelina gets to the top rope and goes for a hurricanrana off the top. Rhea, however, blocks it and hits a powerbomb to get a two-count. Rhea slams her face into the mat. She throws Zelina into the corner amid boos from the crowd. Rhea hits some shoulder blocks in the crowd. Rhea whips her from corner to corner and mocks Eddie Guerrero’s strut.

Zelina tries to fight back but Rhea blocks her. Rhea whips Zelina from corner to corner a couple of more times. Rhea puts her in a back stretch after getting her on her shoulders. Zelina escapes a minute or so. Rhea throws her to the corner but misses a running tackle, crashing into the ringpost. Zelina hits her with some forearms. Rhea throws her to the corner. Zelina blocks a shot and hits more forearms. She hits clotheslines but Rhea refuses to go down. Rhea hits a headbutt to block her.

Rhea goes for a riptide but Zelina counters it with a DDT. Rhea is on the rope and Zelina hits 619. Zelina goes to the top now and hits a Meteora after paying a homage to Eddie Guerrero. Rhea kicks out of the pin though. Zelina hits more punches before Rhea hits a roundhouse kick. Rhea hits Riptide to get the pinfall.

Winner – Rhea Ripley

Zelina is in tears while Rhea leaves to the back, mocking the crowd on her way back. Zelina gets up and is in tears as the crowd gets behind her. Zelina takes it all in and acknowledges the fans before leaving.

Bad Bunny vs Damian Priest – San Juan Street Fight

Priest comes out first amid a tepid response. He is wearing the same ring gear as WrestleMania 37 where he was a tag team partner with Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny comes out to huge cheers. He has the kendo stick from Vega in his hands and a steel chain around his neck. He also has cart full of weapons and drags it down the ramp to the ringside. The crowd is going mad all this while.

Priest pushes Bunny after the bell when he gets into his face. Priest toys with him but Bunny hits him with a punch. Bunny hits Priest with Michinoku driver to get a two-count. Bunny slips to the floor quickly and grabs the kendo stick. Priest ducks the stick shot and picks up Bunny, slamming him to the corner. Priest nails a big shot. He breaks the kendo stick. Priest hits a body slam on Bunny next. Bunny punches him back when Priest wretches his arm.

Bunny rakes his eyes and hits punches but Priest hits a knee to stop him. Bunny hits a jawbreaker next. Bunny goes for punches from the second rope but Priest stops them after two. Priest nails some punches before throwing him in the corner and hitting a stinger splash. Priest hits South of Heaven chokeslam but stops the pinfall after two-count. Priest brings in an an ax handle from the cart of weapons. He throws it away though. Bunny throws a chair to Priest’s face.

Bunny brings out a kendo stick and nails a couple of shots. Priest blocks him with a tackle to the corner. Bunny hits a tornado DDT from the second rope before a clothesline to send Priest to the floor. Bunny hits a crossbody off the top rope to the floor. Bunny starts to hit Priest with trash can lid. He slams them with Priest’s head in between. More kendo stick shots from Bunny as they get back to the ring. Bunny hits a corner splash and bell clap. He hits a falcon arrow to get a two-count.

Priest recovers on the floor after a busted nose. Priest starts to go back. The crowd boos him. Bunny chases him with trash can in hand. Priest hits a big boot on the can to drop Bunny. Priest now slams kendo stick on Bunny’s back and signals for a home run shot. Priest then throws Bunny into the timekeeper’s area. They get into the crowd now. Bunny tries to fire back with punches but Priest shuts him down quickly.

Priest gets to the top of a production crate now. Bunny fights back with punches but Priest drops him through a table with a broken arrow. Some referee and crew members are out to check on Bunny. Priest picks up Bunny and gets him to the ringside. Priest hits a knee strike to his chest. He follows up with another kick to the chest. Bunny ducks a spinning heel kick and Priest’s leg crashes into the ring post. Bunny starts to hit kendo stick shots to his leg. Priest hits him with a punch.

Priest tries to get his boot up but Bunny catches it and hits a kneebreaker. Bunny slams Priest’s leg into the ringpost now. Bunny uses a chain to slam Priest’s leg into the ring post while Priest keeps begging him. Bunny slams a chair shot on the leg against the ringpost. Priest apologises to Bunny to stop him from hitting another chair shot. Bunny stops but Priest hits him with an up kick. Priest goes for a chair shot but Bunny hits him with a low blow.

Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio run out to beat up Bunny. Rey Mysterio runs out but is outnumbered. Carlitto’s music hits and he runs out. Carlitto hits quick shots on Dominik and Balor. He hits double knees to Balor’s back. Carlitto eats an apple when Dominik hits him from behind. Dominik goes for a DDT but Rey saves Carlitto. Rey hits 619 on Dominik before Carlitto sputs apple at him. Balor pulls Dominik away from the ring.

Savio Vega’s music hits and he comes out to block them from leaving. LWO music hits next to bring out Santos Escobar, Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde. They all attack Dominik first. Vega hits Balor with overhead chops. They all run to the back.

In the ring, Priest’s leg gives up when he goes for a roundhouse kick. Bunny puts on a figure four leg lock. Priest breaks free after suffering for a minute. Priest throws Bunny to the corner. Bunny sends him into the turnbuckle with a drop toe hold. Bunny hits a sliced bread to get a near fall. Bunny brings in a chair and hits several shots before hitting a Canadian Destroyer to get the pinfall.

Winner – Bad Bunny

Carlitto, Savio Vega, Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde join Bad Bunny to celebrate after the match.

Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn & Matt Riddle vs The Bloodline(Solo Sikoa, Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso)

The Bloodline come out first. Sami, Owens and Riddle follow them out quickly. Some delibration in the Bloodline over who will start the match. Sami starts against Jey Uso with a lock up. Jey puts on a side headlock. Sami pushes him to the top but Jey comes back with shoulder tackle. Jey gets to the corner to pose with Jimmy. Solo does not join in the pose. Jey tells him to get into it. Jey puts on a side headlock again on Sami. Sami throws him to the ropes and is able to hit a tackle this time around.

Tags to Owens and Jimmy. Owens hits quick punches and stomps. Jimmy hits back with a right. Owens drops him with a high elbow and then hits a senton. Riddle tags in and sends Jimmy to the corner before a leapfrog to avoid a tackle and hits a kick to the chest. Sami tags in and slams Jimmy’s face into the turnbuckle before an elbow shot from the second rope. Jimmy rolls to the corner. Solo tags himself in anger. The Usos tell him to show them how to do it.

Solo corners Sami and unloads with headbutts and punches. He hits a big blow to drop Sami before throwing him to the corner. Jimmy tags in and hits a shoudler blocks in the corner. Jey comes in for some double team. We want Owens chants. Sami hits back with a right but Jey tackles Sami to his corner. Jimmy tags in but Solo tags in after this. Solo stomps on Sami’s chest. He chokes Sami on the ropes. Jimmy takes a cheap shot at Sami when the referee is removing Solo from the corner.

Sami hits a clothesline when Jimmy tags in. Riddle is already knocked off the apron. Jey tags in. Sami hits him with a back body drop to send him to the floor. Sami drags towards the corner but Jey pulls KO off the apron and slams his face into the steel steps. The Bloodline corners Sami once again. Sami starts to fire punches on all three of them. Sami tries to get to Riddle for the tag but Jey hits a Samoan drop to get a two-count. Solo tags in and hits more punches. Solo corners Sami for more punches. Sami is put to the top and he starts to fight back with punches. Sami hits a tornado DDT to drop Solo.

Tags to Riddle and Jimmy. Riddle fights the Usos with sidekicks and an overhead kick. Riddle hits running forearms to The Usos in the opposite corners before exploder suplexes and Brotons. He hits a running kick on Solo from the apron before a moonsault on the Bloodline trio. Jimmy nails him with a superkick when they get back into the ring. Jimmy goes to the top. Riddle meets him up top and hits a superplex. KO gets back up to the apron. Riddle tags in KO. KO hits a Swanton bomb but Jimmy kicks out of the pin. Jimmy blocks a stunner before KO hits a superkick.

Jey takes a blind tag but KO ducks a superkick from Jimmy which catches Jey. KO hits a superkick on Jimmy to send him to the floor and quickly hits a pop-up powerbomb to get a near fall. Jey gets his knees up on a Swanton bomb from KO. They trade punches now. KO hits a headbutt before Jey blocks a stunner and nails a superkick. KO also hits a superkick before Jey hits back with another one. KO hits a clothesline to drop him. Sami and Jimmy get the tag. Sami hits a blue thunderbomb for a near fall.

Sami goes to the top now. Jimmy hits him with enzuigiri. Jey tags in and the Usos go for a double superplex. Sami fights them off. The Usos nail him with a double superkick for a near fall. Jey starts to talk trash with Sami now and says he is tired of him and it’s all his fault. Sami gets up in his corner. Jey gets ready for a hip attack but Solo tags in. Jey is not happy and tags back in and tells Solo to get out. Solo is angry now. Sami goes for a Helluva kick and catches Solo with it on the apron. Sami hits a Helluva kick on Jey but Solo breaks the pin.

Riddle hits Solo with a flash knee. Jimmy hits a Samoan Drop on Riddle. KO hits a stunner on Jimmy. Solo sends KO to the floor. He catches Jey to his throat when he comes from behind. They have some argument but Solo lets Jey go. Sami rolls up Jey into an inside cradle to get a two-count. Jey rolls up Sami for a two-count. Riddle tags in and hits a knee. Solo get a blind tag. Riddle hits Bro-derek on Jey but Solo drops him with a Samoan Spike to get the pinfall.

Winner – The Bloodline

After the match, Jey and Solo are still staring down each other. Jimmy gets them to signal for the Ones. Solo screams at the top of his lungs to close the segment.

Brock Lesnar vs Cody Rhodes

Cody comes out first with huge cheers and the crowd joining in to sing the Kingdom. Lesnar enters amid heavy boos. Cody hits him with a suicide dive in front of the announce table before the bell. He unloads with quick punches before he slams the announce table lid on him. Cody picks up the steel step and runs over Brock with it a few times. He picks a steel chair now and unloads with chair shots.

They get into the ring now. The referee take the chair away from Cody and calls for the bell. Cody hits a corner splash. Brock picks him up and slams him to the corner. Cody hits his signature drop down uppercut. Cody hits a couple of disaster kicks now. He goes for Cody Cutter but Brock catches him and hits a German suplex. Cody recovers and hits more punches. Cody goes for a crossbody from the top but Brock catches him and hits a fallaway slam.

The crowd chants “Suplex city” and Brock duly obliges with a trio of German suplexes. Brock hits some punches. Cody is down on the floor. Brock hits another suplex now. Brock hits some kicks to Cody’s ribs now. Lesnar hits a suplex. He follows up with another one. Cody exposes a turnbuckle unintentionally before Brock hits another German suplex. Brock puts on a bear hug now. Cody hits him with back elbows but Brock hits a belly-to-belly suplex.

Cody is cornered where he counters with a drop toe hold to send Lesnar into the exposed turnbuckle. Lesnar has blood coming out of his forehead. Cody hits a Cody Cutter. He follows up with a disaster kick. Lesnar is dripping blood now as Cody hits more punches. Cody hits another Cody cutter. He hits a Crossrhodes. He follows up with another Crossrhodes but Brock kicks out of the pin.

Cody goes for another Crossrhodes but Brock counters to hit F5. Cody kicks out of the pin though. Brock puts on the Kimura lock. Cody tries to block the extension but Brock gets the lock on. Cody pushes him back into the mat and gets his shoulders pinned. The referee counts the pinfall while Brock still has the Kimura lock on.

Winner – Cody Rhodes

Cody runs out of the ring immediately after the pinfall. Cody’s arm is hurt and runs to the back quickly. Not much celebration. Brock is disappointed as he recovers in the ring. He wipes the blood off his face and gets up as the show goes off the air.
