WALTER vs Ilja Dragunov II Announced for NXT TakeOver 36
WWE has announced WALTER vs Ilja Dragunov II match for NXT UK Championship to take place at NXT TakeOver 36 on 22 August 2021.
WALTER and Dragunov were supposed to clash in a rematch at an NXT UK episode this month. However, WALTER was written to be injured as per the storyline and the match had to be postponed.
NXT Boss Triple H, NXT UK Head Shawn Michaels and NXT General Manager William Regal appeared in a video to announce the match for TakeOver 36. They wanted the whole world to see the fiercest and most aggressive rivalry in NXT history.
So, WALTER and Dragunov will travel to the United States for the match for the next TakeOver event. This is the rematch from the 29 October 2020 episode of NXT UK which was universally praised by the fans and was in talks for the match of the year. Dragunov became the #1 contender for the NXT UK Championship last month.
WALTER is just the third NXT UK Champion and has crossed 800 days in his title reign. He won the title at NXT TakeOver New York in April 2019 from Pete Dunne.
NXT TakeOver 36 will likely air from Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, FL. Samoa Joe vs NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Dakota Kai vs NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez matches are also expected to take place on the show.
