After Crown Jewel, Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar is all set to the main event yet another PPV event. The Universal Championship bout will headline WWE Day 1 pay-per-view, which will be WWE’s very first PPV event of 2022.

In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that the idea of the WWE Day 1 event was from Nick Khan. He also stated that WWE is planning to make this show an annual PPV event.

According to Meltzer, PPV events do not perform really well in the month of December. However, the same events on holiday perform extraordinarily well. The performance of any event depends on its match card as well. WWE is looking to build Day 1 or their New Year event as a big event, they are looking to set up a big match as the main event.

Since Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar is considered the biggest possible match in WWE, the promotion decided to book it as the main event of this brand new PPV. It is likely that Reigns and Lesnar will continue their feud even after Day 1.

Meltzer also added that the officials think that the Royal Rumble PPV event does not need a match like this. Meltzer did not clarify but WWE might be thinking this since the event is already an established event. The event will also have men and women Royal Rumble matches on the card, which are big attractions by themselves.

WWE Day 1 will air on January 1, 2022, from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
