Lucha Libre Star Dragon Lee has announced that he has signed with WWE.

Lee competed at Lucha Libre AAA: Noche de Campeones event on Wednesday night at Arena GNP in Acapulco, Mexico. He teamed up with Dralistico to defeat FTR to win AAA Tag Team Championship.

After the match, 27 year old star took to the mic and announced that he will continue to represent Mexico proudly in WWE from next year. The news was quickly confirmed by ESPN. Both AAA and WWE posted Dragon Lee’s promo on their Twitter accounts.

In the press release from WWE to ESPN, Dragon Lee said, “I think I can become the new Rey Mysterio in WWE. I just need the opportunity.” Lee also revealed how he talked to Finn Balor prior to signing with WWE. “Balor told me, ‘Would you like to be in WWE?” I said, ‘Yeah, sure. Why not?’ It was something special for me.”

Dragon Lee appeared at AEW Dynamite episode of August 17 where he partnered with Rush and Andrade for La Faccion Ingobernables in AEW Trios Championship Tournament against The Elite. Dragon Lee, along with Dralistico, was brought in for a tryout with WWE after this appearance for AEW.

It is reported that WWE passed on signing Dralistico but WWE later brought back Lee for another tryout in last few months. ESPN reports that he signed with WWE earlier this month.

WWE’s post on their website confirmed that Lee will work on its developmental brand NXT(check here for the complete WWE roster). But this does not mean that he could not work his way to the main roster quickly. It also remains to be seen what will his new ring name be.

Dragon Lee has held singles and tag team titles in several promotions across the world. Most notable among them are ROH Television Championship, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Lightweight and Welterweight Championship in CMLL along with tag team titles in AAA and ROH.
