Chris Jericho vs Ricky Starks Set for AEW Dynamite January 4
Chris Jericho will face Ricky Starks in the first AEW Dynamite episode of 2023 on January 4.
The match was confirmed by AEW via social media on Tuesday. Both Jericho and Starks commented on their match next week with respective backstage promos.
Ricky Starks lost a Winner Takes All match for AEW World Championship and Dynamite Diamond Ring against MJF on Winter is Coming edition of Dynamite. Last week, he cut a promo addressing that loss but was interrupted by Jericho Appreciation Society(JAS).
Chris Jericho offered Starks a membership for JAS. Starks turned it down and said he won’t let Jericho take advantage of him. After some trash talk between the two sides, Starks then issued a battle challenge to Jericho on January 4th Dynamite.
Jericho ordered Jake Hager to jump on Starks from behind even though he didn’t accept the challenge. Starks was beaten by The Jericho Appreciation Society until Action Andretti stepped in to make the save.
Jericho is still searching for his first win since losing ROH World Championship to Claudio Castagnoli at the ROH Final Battle PPV on December 10th. He suffered a shocking loss to AEW newcomer Action Andretti on December 14 edition of Dynamite. Stark defeated Cezar Bononi in a singles match at AEW Dark tapings on December 17 after losing to MJF.
AEW Dynamite will feature a new look and presentation from January 4 episode. No other match is currently announced for the show and will only be revealed during Rampage December 30 episode.
