UFC President Dana White came up with a surprise announcement after the main event of UFC 282 ended up in a split draw.
Dana White has officially announced Glover Teixeira would fight Jamahal Hill for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title at the UFC 283 PPV event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The main event of UFC 282 also featured a light heavyweight title fight between Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachcowicz. This bout ended up in a split draw. After the event, Dana White even stated that the headliner bout of UFC 282 was terrible.
After this event, Jamahal Hill proposed to Dana White to pair him against Anthony Smith for the title bout. However, White clearly has other plans.
Glover Teixeira was originally scheduled to face Jiri Prochazka before the latter vacated the title. After that, Teixeira received an offer to face Anklaev at UFC 282. However, Glover wanted this bout to take place in January 2023.
Now, Teixeira will fight in his timeline but against a different opponent. He will face Jamahal Hill for the vacant light heavyweight title. Now, this bout will serve as the new main event of UFC 283. Initially, Deiveson Figuerido vs Brandon Moreno was supposed to headline the first PPV of 2022.
