Gerald Meerschaert Gets Joe Pyfers Fight for UFC 287 PPV
Gerald Meerschaert(35-15) finally has a new opponent as his next bout is shifted to UFC 287 PPV card now.
Dana White Contender Series 2022 contract winner Joe Pyfer(10-2) will face Meerschaert in a middleweight bout at UFC 287. The report came from Jake Noecker before MMA Junkie also confirmed the booking.
Joe Pyfer appeared in DWCS 2022 season for the second time after losing his bout in his first appearance in the 2020 season. A knockout win over Ozzy Diaz in the 2022 season earned him a UFC Contract.
Pyfer made his UFC debut in September 2022 against Alen Amedovski, getting another knockout win in the first round itself. Pyfers also appeared on Fury Pro Grappling 6 event on December 30, 2022, where he defeated UFC’s own Eryk Anders via unanimous decision.
Gerald Meerschaert was supposed to face Abus Magomedov at UFC Vegas 69 on February 18. However, that bout was first shifted to UFC 286 and was later canceled – both due to Magomedov’s visa issues. Meerschaert expressed a desire to get a new opponent at UFC 286 itself, but it does not seem to be the case.
Meerschaert was on a 3-fight winning streak heading into 2022, but he lost to Krzysztof Jotko in April 2022. He defeated Bruno Silva in August 2022 in his last octagon appearance.
UFC 287 is expected to take place on April 8, 2023, in Brooklyn, New York, but it is still to be officially announced by UFC. A blockbuster clash between Henry Cejudo and UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling is rumored to be part of the PPV event.
