Seth Rollins Qualifies for WWE Night of Champions 2023 Spot
Seth Rollins has earned a spot in the final of World Heavyweight Championship tournament, whose final is set for WWE Night of Champions 2023 event.
RAW side of tournament matches to crown the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion took place this week on RAW(May 8). Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and Damian Priest in the first triple threat match of the tournament by pinning Nakamura. Finn Balor won the second first-round triple threat match by pinning The Miz after Brock Lesnar took Cody Rhodes out of the match.
Balor and Rollins then clashed in the semifinal match in the main event of RAW this week. A back and forth match went on between them which also included a barricade powerbomb from Balor in a callback to Rollins injuring Balor in the final of inaugural Universal Championship match at Summerslam. In the end, Rollins hit an inverted stomp and followed up with a stomp to get the pinfall.
Rollins will now face the winner from the tournament semifinal winner from the Smackdown side. AJ Styles vs Rey Mysterio vs Edge and Bobby Lashley vs Austin Thoery vs Sheamus are the first round matches to take place on SmackDown. The winner of these matches will later clash in the final to earn a spot against Rollins.
Triple H originally introduced the new World Heavyweight Championship on RAW April 24 episode which will be exclusive to WWE RAW after Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns was drafted to SmackDown in Draft 2023. Triple H later revealed the tournament format to crown the inaugural champion.
Set at Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, WWE Night of Champions 2023 will air on May 27. Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar is the only other match to be confirmed for the show.
