Samoa Joe vs Darby Allin TNT Title Added to January 4 AEW Dynamite
AEW TNT Champion Samoa Joe will defend his title against Darby Allin on the January 4, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Tony Khan made the announcement for the match through his Twitter account(tweet added below). The announcement comes after Darby assaulted Samoa Joe with his skateboard to close this week’s Dynamite.
Joe won the AEW TNT Championship from Wardlow at AEW Full Gear PPV last month in a triple threat match where Joe pinned Powerhouse Hobbs. Joe later defend the title against Darby Allin at December 7 edition of Dynamite.
This week on Dynamite, Wardlow got a rematch to win his title. However, Joe attacked him backstage to injure his knee with a metal pipe. Joe defeated Wardlow later in the main event after Wardlow was unable to hit powerhouse symphony on Joe.
Joe put Wardlow in Coquina Clutch to put him to sleep and get a technical submission. Joe removed Wardlow’s man bun after the match with a pair of scissors he had discovered in a toolbox under the ring.
It was after this that Darby Allin unexpectedly came out to blindside Joe with an attack and chased Joe out of the ring. We can expect promos from both Samoa Joe and Darby Allin on this week’s Rampage episode to take the storyline further.
This is just the second match to be confirmed for January 4 edition of AEW Dynamite. Chris Jericho battles Ricky Starks in the other announced match. AEW has already announced a revamped look and presentation for Dynamite starting from the first episode in 2023.
