Roman-Sami v Cena-KO Tag Team Bout Set on SmackDown December 30

WWE is set to close out 2022 with one of the biggest matches as John Cena will team up with Kevin Owens to take on Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.

John Cena was earlier announced to return to SmackDown on the December 30^th episode, which is going to be just his second WWE appearance this year. He previously appeared on June 27 episode of RAW to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his WWE main roster debut.

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns made an appearance on SmackDown this week for the first time since winning the WarGames match at Survivor Series. He acknowledged that Kevin Owens continues to bother The Bloodline even after the WarGames match. Roman then brought in WWE official Adam Pearce to discuss a match.

Paul Heyman announced that he will team up with Sami Zayn to take on Kevin Owens and a partner of his choosing. When Pearce asked if this match is going to be on Royal Rumble, Heyman interjected by saying that this could be the biggest match of the year on network TV and suggested the December 30^th date.

Later in a promo in the ring, Roman once again discussed this match. Sami Zayn then said that Owens continues to bog him down and has been cancer in his life, and he will be honored to partner Roman in bringing him down.

Just then, John Cena appeared on big screen with a message. Cena told us that he got a message from Owens pointing out that he has not wrestled in WWE in 2022, which will break his streak of having at least one match in the last 20 years. Owens had asked Cena to be his tag team partner on December 30’s Smackdown and Cena has agreed to that request.

Kevin Owens had a trilogy of matches against Roman Reigns over the Universal title in late 2020 and early 2021. Owens resumed the rivalry with Roman and the Bloodline when he was called up by The Bloodline to take part in WarGames match against The Bloodline.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have a long storied past as best friends and rivals for more than 15 years now. Sami proved his loyalty towards The Bloodline by hitting a low-blow on Owens and helping them get a win in WarGames match.

Cena also challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal title at SummerSlam 2021, but failed to win the title. It remains his last WWE match until now.
