WWE has announced that Rey Mysterio will make his return to RAW this Monday night, 8 July 2019, after recovering from his shoulder injury.
Mysterio defeated Samoa Joe for the United States Championship in his last match in WWE at the Money In The Bank. He suffered a shoulder injury in a beatdown after that match and was forced to relinquish the championship on RAW. He handed back the title to Samoa Joe who then lost it to Ricochet at Stomping Grounds.
Just after he relinquished the title, Mysterio made it clear in an interview, that he was hoping to be back by late June or early July. He has managed to achieve that target as WWE has now announced his return for this week’s RAW.
It’s unknown right now what direction the Mysterio character will take. He may challenge the current United States Champion Ricochet since he never actually lost the title. Ricochet is currently without any opponent at Extreme Rules and WWE might have kept it that way waiting for Mysterio.
However, he could also go against Samoa Joe who was responsible for his injury in the storyline. But that seems highly unlikely since Joe himself is involved in the feud with WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.
