WWE has announced a fatal 4-way match for the no. 1 contender to face Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania between Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose, Carmella and Naomi to be held next week’s episode of SmackDown.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka is devoid of a worthy challenger for WrestleMania ever since former champions Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair got involved with the RAW Women’s Championship storyline. She faced Mandy Rose at Fastlane where she capitalized on Mandy slipping in the ring by getting her legs tangled in the apron cloth while Sonya was picking up a kendo stick from under the ring. Sonya suffered similar fate last week in her match against Asuka at SmackDown when she slipped as Mandy tried to get up using apron as the support.

Sonya implied that Mandy tried to sabotage her match purposely and a rift between the tag team partners was teased. The tensions were there to be seen when both of them gave an interview to Charlie Caruso in a WWE.com exclusive where Caruso also informed them about the fatal 4-way match for the next week involving both of them and Naomi and Carmella. The match will be the convolution of multiple storylines in recent times.

Naomi and Carmella have been the storyline rivals for Sonya and Mandy. While Mandy has a long-standing rivalry with Naomi where she has tried to sabotage Naomi’s marriage, Sonya has called out Carmella for being given too many chances in the Women’s championship scene. They have also been involved in tag team matches apart from facing each other in singles matches. Both teams were also part of the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Championship match inside the Elimination Chamber.

WrestleMania 35 will take place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on 7 April this year. For the updated match card from WrestleMania, please click here.
